Mm mm mm. Smh. They are quite funny. I see they tried but it just didn't come out the way they or anybody else wanted. At least none of these they accused them of purposefully making it look bad or in the case of the religious figures defiling the face of Mary, Jesus etc. All I can say is CRINGE
The monasteries or churches are usually trying to lower their expenses, unless they are huge and located in the biggest cities, they are probably low on funds, and they know that proper restoration is very expensive. They on occasion might try to get away with cheap restoration jobs behind the backs of cultural heritage departments. Proper restoration of art or even more of architecture, is one of the most expensive projects you will ever see. (money/area).
Experts are not always available, especially in smaller communities or they are unwilling to work for the available budget. The choice, then, is to do nothing (and just let the object continue to deteriorate) or use whatever resources (both human and material) _are_ available. While it is not the exactly same thing, I have had home repairs done by well-intentioned but unskilled amateurs because nobody else was available in the small town where the house was located. There was no professional available.
These things are so precious, the people who painted then, had knowledge and a love of art, sadly, blundering idiots with an urge to become famous ruined them thank you for the upload
Who the heck hired these people? Did they even see the portfolio of the "artist"?????? Or did they just hire their aunties, or some random old man they saw down the street?
With the most recent one in 2020 she was hired to restore the frame So while she had it she decided "ill try and fix the painting too! I can paint its not hard!" The owner had 0 clue she was going to do the one thing he specifically said Not to do
@@deepakk1347 blind elder respect is stupid. Here is perfect proof of an older person who lacked wisdom, forsight, and basic logical reasoning who overstepped their bounds and cost the world a piece of history, and you pull this "respect your elders" bull
Gotta appreciate the confidence of some of the restorers though. Like someone comes to you as a furnature restorer and asks you to restore a priceless painting and you are like "umm, sure, I'll give it a go"
Nah, that isn't confidence. Part of being confident is accepting when something is out of your league. I think too many people think confidence equals thinking you're hot shit who can do no wrong, but it's actually knowing that you aren't all that and being okay with it. It's being able to admit that someone else may be better for the job than you.

Which reminds me that George W. Bush should never, EVER be allowed to do any type of art restoration, not even on stick figures. I''m specifically thinking of The Immaculate Conception restoration (version one, I think) which, unfortunately, does look like a W. painting. It's that bad. Oh, and whatever happened to that Lucy statue? It was beyond hideous, it was actively frightening.
6:57 What did artist Bartolome Esteban Murillo did to deserve this abomination?, And why didn't the government do something to properly repair that botched restoration?. Geez guys, hire professionals. Oh wait was this painting part of a private collection?
As a history buff and art lover, this hurts me to my core. Baby Jesus' head looks like a gargoyle, Santa Barbara looks extremely surprised and the Chinese painting at #10 is an insult to the original artist, the Dynasty in which it was created and me because of my Chinese descent.
Just saw the thumbnail and couldn't believe a professional art restorer could mess up a painting this badly. It looks like a child who has never had a single art lesson and has no talent whatsoever did this restoration. It's such a fucken balls up. It is truly unbelievable. Now to actually watch the video.

people used to become artists as a lifelong profession from a young age. most of these artworks were created by old men who had been honing their skills for their entire life. there is no one alive today proficient enough to recreate some of these pieces, and there probably never will be again.
ok but, I didn't think the castle one was that bad. But the three statues, honestly I don't get why people wanted to restore them, they looked so much better as a solid dull color rather than a painted statue that looks like a children's figurine.

Why are you EVERYWHERE? Every video I click!
The San António de Pádua statue looks like he's about to turn on a camera and say "Hey sisters!"
Yeah, the statue was meant to look angelical but that botched restoration makes it look like a crossdresser. (No offense meaning to crossdressers).
That is what I thought as well XD
He looks like an 80’s music artist 😂
He does have rather boss eyes, which probably wasn’t the original vision
