    I purchased this little hammock originally as a lightweight, portable hammock to take along on one day mountain bike trips. Works well, sets up super fast, fits neatly in my small handlebar bag and was surprisingly comfortable for me to rest in. I am 5’5” and also have an 11’ double hammock I use for camping. The 11-footer is probably a little bit too big for me so I thought I’d give this 8’ Daylite Hammock a try on a 2-day overnight trip. I added my top quilt and full-size UQ, tarp and bug net. Turns out I was still super comfortable overnight in this little hammock with no problems with calf ridge or shoulder squeeze...slept like a baby! Children and smaller women may find this little hammock a better fit for themselves than a full-size one. Thank you for your review of this DayLite Hammock. I trust your honest and pretty thorough reviews.

      I was surprised how much comfort that I got in that small hammock. I took a little nap in it while making that video. If one where take their children backpacking with them. Let alone the weight. But I love the pack-ability of it. you can't beat it. If I had a large family. No problem. Always good to hear from you P Arnold-Mora. Thank you for sharing that.

    Nice little hammock, I carried an ENO sub 7 for my backpacking hike on the Appalachian Trail. I'm 5' 2" so it was comfortable for me I even used a Neoair Exlite womens, in it and that worked out well. Not as comfy as my 11' hammocks, but well enough. I might be willing to give it a try. Thanks for the video.

      It is a small hammock, but at 5'2", it might just work for you. If you where to get a 3/4 length under quilt and those ultra light suspension. That system would be just over a pound. Thank you for watching Nana. I really appreciate it.

    Could you please recommend what's best a sleeping pad or a under quilt for cold weather camping? And could you please recommend model and brand?

    • @AdventureswiththeMarine
      @AdventureswiththeMarine  4 місяці тому

      I prefer an under quilt. The best under quilt for someone starting out is a built in under quilt. Superior Gear just came out with one that has a synthetic built in UQ. Have the price. But heavier than down and much more bulky if you are backpacking. If you are into back packing. I prefer a 3/4 length UQ. But you have to adjust them every time you get in and out. Then you have the full length UQ. Not a lot of adjusting. But heavier and bulkier than the 3/4 length. I recommend Hammock Gear Under Quilts. Lately they have had some great sales. I have bought three this past year.

    • @AdventureswiththeMarine
      @AdventureswiththeMarine  5 років тому +5

      The insulation compartment would be a double layer hammock. For your height. I would get the Dutchware Gear wide 11ft netless. If you do not need a bug net. And if you do. I would look into the Dream Hammock Darien Or Sparrow. They custom make hammocks to fit you. You would want a 11ft. and the width around 70 in. Dutchware also has the Chameleon. But again, if you need that insulation compartment. Make sure you get a double layer. Thank you for watching MrReedTea.

    Well…at 6’5” definitely not for me, but that whoopie sling interests me especially since you don’t even need carabiners or a toggle. Any thoughts on it vs. the Superior suspension?. I saw your video comparing between both types, but not specifically this one. I currently own the Superior suspension and a friend has Helios slings, and bought me it, but I think just by the looks of it Superior looks better with the less hardware needed.

      It is one of the lightest suspension. And very strong. And also very packable. At 6'5". You would want a 12 ft. hammock. Nothing less than 11ft. With that Superior suspension. You would have a great setup. Thank you for watching MrBalas3. I really appreciate it.

    Hummingbird Hammock Single hammock is 8.5 feet and 5.2 oz. Just long enough for me, at 5'10". I use it for long section hikes on the AT. I pull a zipperless sleeping bag with a foot baffle over it and go to sleep (actually, I pull the hammock through the bag). Hummingbird make a very light bug net with a vertical zipper (lets in fewer mosquitoes), and a whoopie sling suspension which is under 3 oz. I couldn't sleep in an 8 foot hammock, so that one wouldn't work for me. To get the sleeping bag to snug up to my backside, I adjust the angle of my diagonal lay until it does. Works for me, but not for everyone. I can vouch for the Hummingbird Hammock quality, but the tree strap webbing is thin and tends to fold on itself, requiring some attention when wrapping it around the tree.

      I would believe that the Warbonnet Blackbird XLC double layer would work great for you. It has a built in self to store things in the hammock that I absolutely love. Then buy there portable bug net. Would be the cheapest option for a great hammock that would fit you.

      @@AdventureswiththeMarine Maybe they are worth it...I don't know?!
      The 4 ounce hammock is just too small for me as I am 6.3 and 225 pounds.
      I checked and they do have a Classic Hammock also around $100.00, but available in a 10.25 foot length, and wide width, add $15.00 for an 11 foot length, plus $25.00 for the suspension, and another $40.00 for the Insect Shield treatment, which makes a lot of sense, like wearing Insect Shield clothing.
      So an eleven foot hammock, suspension, and Insect Shield treatment would run about $180.00.
      Back in April I went hammocking without a bug net, and no insect repellent, and the night time temperatures were in the upper 60s, and just warm enough for the mosquitoes to buzz me all night.
      Luckily I was wearing an Insect Shield Shirt, but did not have my Insect Shield Boonie Hat, and my long pants and sock were not treated.
      I actually put on my jacket, and covered my head with the hood to try and stop the buzzing.
      End result the mosquitoes bit me on my feet and pants through my socks mainly.
      The Insect Shield on the hammock probably would have helped immensely, and it would kill any ticks that might have latched onto me, or my clothing.
      I am OK paying the $180.00 for something that is high quality, feature filled, light, and that lasts many years.

    • @AdventureswiththeMarine
      @AdventureswiththeMarine  4 роки тому

      This is not a hammock for camping. It is design for pack-ability and very light weight for storage. ( in a glove box, purse, small pack or even you pocket ). It is great to take a quick nap, on a day hike. Or to pullover the car at a spot with an amazing view and with a nice breeze, to kick back in. Or to pull it out of your pocket to hang at a park for a short time. But that is it.
      But if you are looking for an all around hammock. Then one should buy a hammock the fits them. You are right zootycoon246. Most hammocks on the market. Are made way too small ( too shot and too narrow ) They try to promote that one size fits all. But that is not true. There are only a few companies that will fit a hammock to your size. That is why a lot of people are finding it hard to hammock camp. Their hammock is way to small to be comfortable to sleep in through out the night.
      Thank you for watching. I really appreciate it.

      I think this hammock may work well for women. I am 5'6" and use my full-size hammock for day hiking, bike touring and occasionally in a park just to kick back and read. This new hammock may be something I could store into a daypack along with snacks, beverage, book, jacket and toss in the car when I feel the need to do a quick get-away. It may end out being comfortable enough for me to use on a multi-day bike tour where pack size is limited .

      Good to see that you are still lifting weights. If you want to keep doing these outdoor activities into your 80's. I believe that lifting weights will get you there. I don't know if you ever heard the name Warren Tetting. He made and designed weightlifting equipment since the 60's. Magazines like Ironman and others would buy from him and sell through their publication. Three years, this October, he passed away. He was one of my best friend. We would meet every other Saturday for breakfast in the morning and afterwards we would go somewhere to just talk. My favorite was sitting on the bank of the Mississippi River. During the warmer weather, with a good cigar. I learned so much from him. But he would say from his mistakes. People from are the United Statas would call him all the time for advise on weight lifting. ( he also judge in power lifting competition for many years) If he was still alive. He would tell you Rod that the most important thing you can do is Squats. It works so many muscles and give you an foundation to build on. He would say: " you don't walk on your hands ( arms ) but your legs". A week before he died. He told me that he could no longer do squats anymore. And that it was over. He was 87 years old. Sorry for rambling on like that. It is just I miss the guy very much. Thank you Rod so much for watching. I really appreciate it.

      Thank you for the videos. I am 51 and just got into hammocks a few years ago. Now, I have 3 posts sticking out of the ground in my back yard for hammocks. And, I have a nice double hammock by FIELD AND STREAM, 30.00 hanging in my bedroom! I have a bad back and I love it! Lol, it's like COWBELL, I can't get enough of it!
