Thanks for another great presentation. Regarding the Robert Taylor picture with autographs of the Luftwaffe aces: During the last quarter of the last century, these prints, along with other were popular aviation artists such as Keith Ferris, were popular with many history and aviation buffs. Along with the pictures were seminars in which the surviving airmen, along with their Allied counterparts, participated. Many of these were sponsored and promoted by Ms. Virginia Bader, a well know aviation art dealer and niece of the famed RAF ace, Douglas Bader. Just more trivia.
The tiny books were printed as part of the German Winterhilfswerk (WHW) campaigns that were held every year from October through March, 1933-1945. People who placed money into the famous red WHW donation cans were given one of the booklets. It was common for people to hang these books and other WHW items with strings from a button of their clothing. This showed the persons support and stopped the numerous WHW donation collectors from hitting them up twice.
What family ? Her immediate family all died out by the early 70s. According to wikipedia, she had 1 confirmed niece. Assuming there still is a bloodline intact, it'd likely very be distant.
I’ve seen in a documentary that Eva Braun has descendants still living in Germany. I think they are nieces, they are very private and refused to be interviewed in the documentary by the History Channel. Hope it helps.
As a museum professional, I love the idea of Eva's ring becoming part of a public collection. HOWEVER, the stipulation that it be allowed to go back to the family should they ever come forward is a hard pill to swallow. Most museums do not accept gifts with conditions. It just creates too many headaches in the long run. (Ask me how I know! lol) With that in mind, if repatriation to the family is something you feel very strongly about, then I'd recommend placing the item on long term loan. That way, it can be publicly displayed for an indeterminate amount of time, but also easily recalled by you and then given to the descendant.
Most people don’t know that unless you leave your items on loan with the museum they can sell your items to make room for other things. I also know most things in a museum don’t see light of day.
Yeah it’s funny how many nazi scientists that were taken to America to be used for developing the rockets that went to the moon and all kinds of other different things

I have one of Eva Braun's rings given most probably to Rochus Misch as Eva gave away many of her personal items when knowing she would commit suicide with her husband, Adolph Hitler. It was given to an SS telephone operator of the Begleitkommando and Misch was the only one of them who could have gotten it out during that time frame because he saw his wife right before the fall of the bunker trying to convince her to leave Berlin on a plane alloted for that by Hitler. They had a home in Berlin. No other SS telephone operator had opportunity to to get it out safely because they were taken captive by the Red Army.
The Germans did not have "tours" in the same way, they fought until the end, either Yours or the War. And on the eastern front, that was a lot of "easy" pickings that the war in the west did not have, most air war was against the bombers, and their escort. In the east it was a continuous war from 1941 to 1945. In the west it was more mid 1944 to 1945, and then the Luftwaffe was really decimated, so wins was few and was costly, there where to many P47, P51, Spits and the holy trinity from Hawker. And from the Allied side, it was hard to find enough targets to be an ace (5 "kills").
And if you didn't have a properly functioning example of one of those gun-sight cameras that started recording whenever the pilot pulled the trigger to fire his guns (which wasn't common equipment for a lot of the units, I believe) and managed to capture the kill on film, for it to be counted, per the military standards/requirements (for both the American and German military, as well as most other comparable nations I believe) regarding the counting of "kills" against enemy aircraft and such, there has to be AT LEAST 1 other credible person/pilot (I'm not sure if they must be in a separate aircraft or not) that was present and personally witnessed the 1st pilot "killing" or downing each enemy aircraft that he is claiming he did, and they have to put that in writing and sign it. This may not seem like a big thing to some, but just think about how many stars/moons/planets that have to line up, in just the right way, for there to be another pilot that happens to be looking towards a specific portion of the sky, during hostile air-air combat, possibly engaging other enemy fighters, while also having to constantly check all of those gauges/dials in the cockpit of his own aircraft....
The worst thing you can do is giving it to a museum. Once it goes into a museum, it can be sold, destroyed, or whatever the museum wants to do with it. I highly doubt a museum in Germany would display the ring.
'Those who seek to destroy History are doomed to repeat it.' Great video as always Tom. Don't listen to the perpetually offended. All history needs to be preserved, The Good, the Bad and the Ugly.
Although that a truism it's not true today. So in a larger sense it's a false truism. When you have social media deleting comments and claiming stories are false when a year latter they have been dedunked and stated as true. Then the hypocrisy is exposed.
I don’t think you’re wrong about the ring. It displays your strong moral character. I don’t know if EB has family or if she does if they will see this video. If it is not claimed I’d suggest exploring a museum to either donate or put on loan.
Another great video, Tom! Would love to own the Luftwaffe print! Galland is a personal favorite of mine because of his involvement with the ME-262...the first operational jet fighter EVER. Doesn't hurt he was also a technical advisor for the movie The Battle of Britain. Eric "Bubi" Hartmann is also the world's highest scoring Ace, with over 300 confirmed kills. I'm with you on the Eva Braun ring...repatriate it to the family. If that doesn't work, find a museum or collector that will display it appropriately. Keep up the great work!
I am of German decent, and was adopted at age two. I have mixed emotions about my heritage, yet I enjoy learning about Germans and the atrocities of war as awful as it was during WW II.
As a Austrian-German decent myself I must say that it is fine to be proud of you heritage. I myself am extremely proud to be a Aryan. Yes I am blond hair and blue eyed Austrian-German. Just remember when people have nothing and someone promises them something most people will gladly so anything to have something even if it is wrong.
I am full blood born german and am definitely proud of my heritage, my grandparents weren‘t even supporting the nazis. Remember its not the people but the politicians who start the wars and initiate the atrocities on foreigners and their own people sending them to their death.

JG 52 was not just any Jagd Geschwader. The most successful aces of all time were on board with Erich Hartmann, Gerhard Barkhorn and Günther Rall. It is a historic Geschwader and respected by everyone so it makes sense to make a painting of it.

Most of our soldiers were no nazis, they were only born in the wrong year.
Excellent video. I have been collecting Militaria (not firearms) of and on for four decades. In fact King David in the bible was a Militaria collector!
Hi, I am interested in the SS officer's diary. I am of German descent and speak/write German. The historical value is where the value actually lies; the relic/collectible value likely not so much. I'd have to do some research to determine a potential value for a proper offer - I will do that and contact you on your web site.
In wolfeboro NH, we have the WRIGHT museum, its a WWII museum, they have some items from a great uncle that died in Belgium. Im sure they'd be honored to receive the ring
It's important history, an event like no other..it changed boundaries and alliances to this day..some people have to understand that collecting history is not a crime.
Would recommend having an elderly Professor of German at a local college try to translate the notes in the SS diary. Older german may be a bit different from today's modern german.

It could be that the Luftwaffe’s fighter pilots are respected because the job really didn’t lend itself to war crimes or treachery. Maybe shooting other airmen in parachutes but that’s about it. There was a bit of gallantry exhibited by both sides, somewhat inconsistently but it happened none the less. Just a thought. Galland, Rall and Hartmann were three of the best.
Yes, the National World War Two Museum in New Orleans is the exact museum I had in mind as well. It has expanded greatly over the years and the ring would be safe there. I would very hesitant about sending the ring back to Germany. It would probably end up destroyed there sooner or later.

An interesting opinion. She was the wife of a mass murderer of millions and clearly knew, or should have known, what was going on. You feel sorry for her and her family because her personal artifacts were taken. Really? How about the millions of lives that the Hitler's took?
Fascinating and horrifying in equal measure. I wouldn’t want to own, or even touch, those things but they are important artefacts, they should be preserved and displayed as a part of world history, a place in time that helped shape the world we live in today. History is rarely set in La La Land and is mostly unpleasant but nonetheless relevant.

My father in WW2 (US 5th Armored Division) captured a Luftwaffe officer and had a right to his decorations. But he said that it felt unmanly to demand them in front of his commanding officer during the German's interrogation. The military interpreter who was Jewish had no such compunctions and demanded the Luftwaffe man surrender the decorations to him. The German took them off except for one then said, "Nein, nein, not that one, the Fuehrer personally gave it to me." But the Jewish interpreter took it anyway. You can imagine how dissappointed I felt when my dad told me that. My father couldn't remember what the decoration was, but if it was Fuehrer bestowed it must have been a good one. Wish I knew what it might have been.
Metals are bestowed to the person. They are personal possessions. Not state property, to take them away is stealing just as taking an individual's wallet away would be.
They didn't have a "right" do take decorations. Hans Rudel had his decorations stolen in the same way, and he went to the US Army officer in charge and got them back.
@@Page-Hendryx Perhaps my father had a false impression. If he were still living I'd ask him. But even if a high class guy like Rudel got his decorations back, the fact that they were taken in the first place shows that Americans frequently flaunted their own regulations. Let's face it, the conquered German Wehrmacht and nation didn't have many rights. Plus the average GI was fighting for war booty and souvenirs and not much else.

I would feel funny wondering where the gold for that ring came from
It's definitely hard to sink your teeth into.
The worst thing you can do is giving it to a museum. Once it goes into a museum, it can be sold, destroyed, or whatever the museum wants to do with it. I highly doubt a museum in Germany would display the ring.
Much less a Holocaust museum -- they would never display Nazi memorabilia like this -- it is totally ghastly.
Agree on ring…good call
So Eva Braun’s personally ring is off limits, yet individuals medals which are their personal property are not???
It's almost impossible to determine how they were obtained. They could have been sold by the family.
Exactly, metals are bestowed upon the individual, and therefore are the individuals personal property.
... always silently watching..and giving a Like..👍
There was a very debonaire American Actor, Robert Taylor..
Same generation as Gary Cooper..
Awesome video…. Sorry you get cheesy hate emails…. I find your videos very interesting and informative….. thank you sir.
WW2 is a Fascinating subject, that is why people have been collectecting paraphernalia from this conflict since the end of WW2.
I don’t think you’re wrong about the ring. It displays your strong moral character. I don’t know if EB has family or if she does if they will see this video. If it is not claimed I’d suggest exploring a museum to either donate or put on loan.
I feel what you proposed to do with the ring is honorable.
Great video Sir. I think you are handling these artifacts with class.
She does have family in Germany and are still alive. Think they have it on one of the episodes of hunter hitler on the history channel
JG-52 would be the squadron. ;-) JG=Jagdgeschwader.
Yep, Planes das Bf-109
What we see is called "Schwarm". Two aircraft are a "Rotte".
A WWII Geschwader was roughly equivalent to a wing, it is considerably larger than a squadron.
Very respectful and thoughtful, thank you.
Even Americans have done war crimes and other countless bad things. The average citizen can’t be blamed for the actions of people in power.
Let us know if a family member replied. Intriguing!!
Agree the ring should go to family if available. Well stated and thought out. You should get an Honorary Doctorate in history from a college. Thanks for sharing. 👍
He already has at least one Doctorate in at least one field.
He’s a seasoned psychologist, I believe.
Like the humour in your videos by the way...keeps me coming back.
Those notes on specific dates are people he wrote to on that date, Freitag, 22.: Mutter, ..., ..., Heinrich, Horst geschrieben. Sonntag, 24.: Mutter geschrieben, Gübel geschrieben.
What a fantastic collection of Luftwaffe Aces' signatures! Teutonic Knights of the sky!
I agree. I commend you to returning it to the family
JG 52 was not just any Jagd Geschwader. The most successful aces of all time were on board with Erich Hartmann, Gerhard Barkhorn and Günther Rall. It is a historic Geschwader and respected by everyone so it makes sense to make a painting of it.
The small booklets were to raise money for the Winterhilfswerk charity. Good for you deciding to try and give the ring back to the family. I totally agree with you on the stealing of people's private property, war does not excuse stealing
Was hesitant about subscribing, however, you are a class act! Your way of handling the Eva ring was something I would do, so, you have one more subscriber and oh ya, greetings from Illinois!
Thanks for joining. Will try to keep you entertained.
I have the JG 52 print in my collection. I got it from General Johannes Steinhoff as his presentation copy and knew all signing fighter pilots personally. It is framed too. You are not a Nazi, if you are interested in history. I am a collector of photographs and in second line autographs. Make a difference between military and political/organization items. Most of our soldiers were no nazis, they were only born in the wrong year.
Educating the public is never easy- your offer on the ring is classy, & quite decent- BobH.-
Excellent video. I have been collecting Militaria (not firearms) of and on for four decades. In that time I have constantly had to defend and explain my hobby to those who misunderstand my motives or are ignorant of the fact that war souvenir collecting is an ancient endeavor. In fact King David in the bible was a Militaria collector!
I have read in the original Latin text stories of Roman battles in which spoils of war were discussed.
Hi, I am interested in the SS officer's diary. I am of German descent and speak/write German. The historical value is where the value actually lies; the relic/collectible value likely not so much. I'd have to do some research to determine a potential value for a proper offer - I will do that and contact you on your web site.
Good luck man, hope you get it.
It’s sold.
A very respectful thing to do. And l for one think it's the right thing to do.
In wolfeboro NH, we have the WRIGHT museum, its a WWII museum, they have some items from a great uncle that died in Belgium. Im sure they'd be honored to receive the ring
If we got rid of all historical items that were tied to controversial things, we'd be getting rid of 90% of all historical items.
Gertraud Weisker is or was Evas niece and I believe the only remaining relative.
It's important history, an event like no other..it changed boundaries and alliances to this day..some people have to understand that collecting history is not a crime.
Would recommend having an elderly Professor of German at a local college try to translate the notes in the SS diary. Older german may be a bit different from today's modern german.
It is different, in the 30's people spoke more correctly.
@@robertslaughter7044 What language spoken in the 1930s would not be different than that of 2021? Icelandic is one of the few languages with the least amount of change over the centuries.
I lived in Iceland, it is a beautiful language, especially when spoken by a beautiful Icelandic lady.
cool stuff..all ww2 items are great..keep em coming
Eva Brown’s cousin Gertrude Weisker had children who must still be alive
It could be that the Luftwaffe’s fighter pilots are respected because the job really didn’t lend itself to war crimes or treachery. Maybe shooting other airmen in parachutes but that’s about it. There was a bit of gallantry exhibited by both sides, somewhat inconsistently but it happened none the less. Just a thought. Galland, Rall and Hartmann were three of the best.
Shooting at German pilots in parachutes was a speciality of " Sir " Douglas Bader and he actually admitted it.
Your a good man Tom, a man that does something because "it's the right thing to do."

Outstanding video and presentation.
18:51 shows indeed the serialnumber of His rifle.2676.
erich hartmann is the first fighter pilot ace that set the guinness world record that shotdown more than 300 plus enemy plane
Good decision Tom re the ring. Freudian slip: "Kraut control" or crowd control?
The spoils of war. Your decision on the ring is most honorable.
What about considering the National WW2 Museum in New Orleans, LA?
Yes, the National World War Two Museum in New Orleans is the exact museum I had in mind as well. It has expanded greatly over the years and the ring would be safe there. I would very hesitant about sending the ring back to Germany. It would probably end up destroyed there sooner or later.
@@frenchfan3368 I agree!
After watching this video I respect you a lot more
This pilot Walter Krupinski can be born in Ruhrgebiet are. In 19th century many people from polish part of Prussia moved to Ruhrgebiet to become miners in coal or iron mines. So there are still many persons with polish names , for example formerly well known football ( soccer) player Litbarskie.
Actually for the SS notebook, his Gun serial number was written as 2676
The Iron rest is US around 1890-1900 the Swastika was a popular brand used at the time
Rest in peace Eva.
If that ring doesn't sell in 3 months, i'm interested
Research has since concluded that this ring in fact belonged to Erin Brokovich
Is showing in the catalog
The tiny books were gifts given to people who donated to the Winterhilfswerk, an annual donation drive that the Hitler youth was active in carrying out the collection of donations
Its not stealing its called the spoils of war. Thanks for posting.
"Spoils of war" literally describes illegitimate prizes of war, i.e. stolen
@@justinshepard2271
No, it's profits. It's the results of winning. Stop pretending the Germans didn't take anything from anyone.
An interesting opinion. She was the wife of a mass murderer of millions and clearly knew, or should have known, what was going on. You feel sorry for her and her family because her personal artifacts were taken. Really? How about the millions of lives that the Hitler's took?
Has the ring been sold yet and where can we try to find it for sale?
Yes, it has been sold now and funds sent to charity
JG_52 is the Fighter Wing (Jagdgeschwader 52)the plane bf-109G
What happend with Evas ring ?
I thought you were a good guy, by offering the ring to the family you just proved that you are...good job!
Jewish gold stolen should not go back to her family
@@damianjohnson5985 Proof stolen?
Thank you!!
Maybe You "admire" the defeat of the enemy? The more "evil" Your enemy is, or technological advanced, the greater the Victory is. Or You admire their technology as an engineer.
the nazi,s lost the war but won tecnologicaly, they merged with operation paperclip in america, they took over america in a way by becoming industrial giants.
Another Great Video,, Keep them coming!!
Tom: I can name some WW1 Aces
@@Page-Hendryx
Perhaps my father had a false impression.
That was a terrific statement of FACT. Very well thought out!
8:34min. Oh ja i know a guy like this..he has a Walther ppk with the black ..party leader.. grips and a Artillery luger from 1916 in unused condition.. greetings from Germany
Wow, even more interesting than weapons, specially the diary
Looting the personal belongings of a dead woman does seem macabre, if not downright ghoulish. The films of Eva at the Berghoff drives that home.
