way ahead of you... im just here for validation
I just upgraded my 9700k to a 13700k build. I am so glad I didn't wimp out and go 13600k.
@Auntie Pha 16 core gang 🤘
@@auntiepha8343 good choice 👍🏻
@@mikeramos91 Thanks, Michael! I was a little worried I would regret building the new system. I used a Z690 ASUS TUF motherboard and it doesn't have a BIOS flashback button. Cheapest option was to buy a used 12th Gen Celeron for $40 to update the BIOS and then use the 13700k on the board.
Well the 1700 socket spring was so tight it flipped the Celeron out of the socket when I went to take it out after updating BIOS. The $40 Celeron flipped up and landed on it's side on the lower left socket pins. LoL
A couple looked a little off... maybe but I didn't mess with it.
Dropped the 13700k in expecting it not to post because of bent socket pins. But...
The 13700k posted like a champ and is running like a beast. I am never taking it out of this motherboard socket tho... unless I am upgrading to a new mobo! (I have bricked mobo's before with bent pins) LoL
Merry Christmas Michael!🎄
this video didn't age well hahaha, if you are reading this now, please don't buy 13 or 14 gen intel over 12th gen!
When I bought my 12900k it was $100 cheaper than the 13700k on Amazon.
went with the 13700k myself. I'm always an i7 guy, sweet spot for power/longevity. And whenever u upgrade just get the latest gen
Grats Michael! Did you go DDR4 or DDR5? I went with DDR4 because I had it in my 9700k rig. I also think DDR5 will need 3-4 years to start putting DDR4 to actual shame. By then I can get a DDR5 mobo or a new CPU and DDR5 mobo whichever makes the most sense at the time.
@@auntiepha8343 well I was able sell most of my old parts so I went for DDR5. From what I’ve seen DDR5 makes little to no difference unless you play at 1080p high refresh rate on a 4090 🤷🏻♂️
Hell yes!
@@mikeramos91 Yeah, I didn't sell my old parts yet. I haven't decided if I am going to keep them or sell them yet. I should sell them but I don't always do what's best. lol Merry Christmas and Happy New Year Michael!
The only reason I didn't go with the 13700k when I bought my upgrade parts this month, is because Microcenter had a special on a 12900k combo with a z790 mobo and included 32Gb ddr5-6000 ram, and compared to the 13700k combo with 32gb ram, I could get the 12900k combo and be able to get another stick of 32GB ddr5 for a total of 64gb of ram and with the z790 mobo, I can upgrade to any of the 13700k, 13900k, 14700k, or 14900k later this year and still be good. The 12900k is still a beast at gaming and performance, but I needed the extra ram and I didn't want to go over budget.
I just got that bundle
@@DaWizeDeciple I just saw an article about Nvidia saying that users experiencing crashes with a 13th or 14th Gen CPU should consult Intel for their troubles.... Nvidia blames Intel for GPU VRAM errors, tells GeForce gamers experiencing 13th or 14th Gen CPU instability to contact Intel support...So I'm glad I started off with the 12th gen and that way they can fix this issue and I can decide later if I want to swap it out for a 13 or 14th gen.
The article was from Tom's hardware.
I basically finished my build yesterday by installing a clean seat of win 11 with the 13700k and it’s more performant than with win 10. Smoothest performance I’ve seen yet. I agree, the i7 is the way to go.
thats interesting...how much better was performance in win11?
@@TopTierTech1 it’s smoother navigating the OS. We’re talking milliseconds, but it feels better. I haven’t run benchmarks yet because I haven’t gotten the fans setup properly to adapt for cooling. My big thing was to have the executing of the E cores as they work with win 11.
13700 run best on win11,prev on window 10,my 13700kf sensor doesnt work properly, and also cpu frenquentsy show max use on idle
@@natsu78999which motherboard you are using with 13700k?
how is it today also what motherboard you have i was thinking gong to intel from amd i like the intel boards going to upgrade to white build
I got an Intel Core i9-12900K, ASUS Z690-A Prime DDR5, CPU / Motherboard Combo for $469.98 at microcenter which is cheaper than any i7-13700K combo
This is what I also want to do, I'm using an 11900k and really want to get away from 11th gen
@@pk.002Nice
Comments like this makes me wonder why micro center isn’t selling online internationally. 😢 I can’t move to the US just to be next to you Microcenter 😅
I just bought this combo for £400
@@Yaba414 yeah the European market is broken and also in the rest of the world
I just bought me a 12900k to replace my 13700k, because of the 13th gen cpu degradation issue, which apparently is unfixable.
How's the 12900k ? I'm thinking of upgrading my setup with this cpu pairing with the Prime Z790 Asus's motherboard
I got a 12900k, only because the chip was literally 25% cheaper than a 13700k
I know I'm late to the game here in 2024, but I wound up getting the 12900k because Microcenter was running a CPU, MB ,and DDR5 bundle for $399. The discount broken down showed the 12900k at $144 (was $290 if bought alone). Also $100 off the $250 MB, and $10 off the 32GB DDR5 DIMMs.
I love living near a Microcenter...
@@Shadow_Banned_Conservative damn good deal. I remeber in 2022 or so I bought mine for 300$ just for the cpu.
@@Shadow_Banned_Conservative Dude i think I am about to pick up that same CPU, MB, and RAM deal for $399. How have you liked everything so far??
@@__UberMonk__ So far I like it. Probably one of the best features is the ability to turn off MCE for the overclocking on that ASUS Prime z790 Plus MB that was part of the bundle. My stock 360 aluminum AIO isn't having a problem keeping it cool.
My original system though, a G16CH MB that came in a prebuilt ASUS gaming system, even with a modified AIO (65mm thick 240mm copper radiator) can't keep my prebuilt system (13700kf) from thermo-throttling. There's no way on that stock MB to disable the way too aggressive OC mode that is stock (MCE), at least none that I can see.
For that pre-built system I bought an ASUS Tuf Gaming z790 Plus WiFi board used for $115. I'm hoping that will allow me to disable the aggressive OC mode and have better results with the pre-built system.
That stock ASUS gaming MB is garbage from what I can make of it, I think it's an old 760 chipset and even the latest BIOS update doesn't give me the ability to disable the extreme OC, at least that I can find.
@@__UberMonk__ thinking of doing the same thing but there is another deal for $100 more with the i7 13700k.
12900K is extremely easy to cool vs 13700K. I tried both and I kept 12900K. 13700K just jumps to 100 degrees under heavy load, impossible to cool even with new 360mm AIO. 12900K or non-K are top daily performer today, totally worth extra money.
Was this a constant issue? How many fans do you have overall?
@@marvyn_wez I was able to get 14700 stable with 360 AIO with replaced high pressure fans. I have 6 fans total, all expensive high performance. But I still kept 12900K.
I've had my 13700k on Air cooling and it's never gone anywhere close to 100c I'm not sure how you've managed this
@@soup8977 did you undervolt? I do not believe this, plenty of reviews online saying 13700K hits 100 degrees under stress testing even when using 360 AIO.
@@marvyn_wez yes it was. I have a total of 5 fans, but I managed to get a new 280 AIO and swapped the fans for Corsair ML140 Elite. Only after this both 13700K and 14700K managed to run without overheating, but I still kept 12900K. It is plenty enough for my needs.
I just got a 12900k in a bundle with a z790 and 32 gb of ddr5 5000 ram
I am getting that, what gpu do you have

I got an 12900kf for $210, also 13th and 14th gen are apparently crashing and unstable, I'd rather skip the bullet going with stable 12th gen.
Would it still be worth it, if I9 12th gen was half the price of 13th gen?
The i912900k is on sale for $315. I'd say buy it, I did thanks to Black Friday.
Just Got my i7 13700kf delivered today hope I can get it to work with my msi mpg z690 force wifi motherboard.
Hell yeah it’s a beast!
It will
, gracias a ti pude decidirme!!! , adquirire el 12900k, ya que esta en promoción como lo indicas, con una disipación líquida de asus, y un case full Tower para mejor flujo de aire y mejores temperaturas, gracias!!!
Thank you very much, sir! I was able to decide much easier after seeing your video. Definitely going with the i7-13700k
Is the 13700kf better than the 13700k?
13700k and 13700kf both are same but 13700kf don’t supports intel igpu that is why it is cheap in price.
But with experience i advice to get 13700k because it will help a lot for troubleshooting down the road.
@@netfreak6993 KF is 3% higher score on user bench mark
i like how he showed a picture of the 12900k performing better than the 13700k then proceeded to say the 13700k is another step ahead LMAO 5:31 - 5:58
13700kf is enough for me
This is only out of the box for the most part if you’re over locking the difference between the 2 is negligible so just buy whatever’s cheaper
I purchased a 12900k from amazon. they shipped me a 12900kf. my order page showed I had ordered and PAID for a 12900k, they said take a photo of the shipping label so I did and they said that matches their record were not replacing the part. It took me 3 months for amazon to refund me the price of the 12900k which i then purchased again from newegg and received the item that I paid for.
I do not game, I run gentoo linux. I could care less about frame rates, what I care about is being able to compile LLVM or rust in under an hour. 19 minutes for llvm.
