    According to legend the town got it's name when it was settled by people escaping refugees from the Mayon Volcano eruption which buried the settlement of Cagsawa (now a part of my hometown of Daraga in Albay), in which perhaps one refugee was asked by a spaniard what is the name of the place and it was misunderstood to mean what happened to them. The reply was "naka-BUHI" which you know in visayan as to mean "escaped alive." Bicolano and Visayan share many words, including "buhi" bit there are also plenty which aren't like the word for fish which is "sira" in bicol but which is destroyed or not working (FUBAR) in tagalog and in visayan which means, as you guessed it "daot" (hi Kumander!) in visayan. Another interesting word is Oragon/Uragon a favorite bicolano word that is double entendre. It could either mean in positive as someone or something brilliant or in negative someone or something very bad. It has it's roots though in the visayan word "uwagan or uwagon" or in english someone libidinous. It is believed in the pre-hispanic days that someone libidinous will sire a lot of children. Especially those that would become warrior or hunting men. You don't mess around with someone who has lots of children who would defend him which is something good but if you also have plenty of children, it will be difficult to feed them all or they devour the resources around the area which is something bad.

    The sinarapan or what we previously call as tabios (my high school principal has that surname) may not be the smallest fish on record but it definitely is the smallest edible fish in the world. They are not only found in Lake Buhi in Camarines Sur, but also in rivers and streams around the area. The smaller Lake Danao in Polangui, Albay area also has them. Sometimes, I pity them when I eat those small biscuit like pieces that they are served in because they are a lot smaller than the bolinao fish that most filipinos are accustomed to which are served in patties. Hopefully, they aren't an endangered species yet. I think the LGUs around the area are doing steps to preserve this species which is part of their heritage.

    • @joaquinvillacera5323

      There are smaller one at Lake Mainit, Agusan del Norte the local call as Saguyon. You can also see Lake Agco at Mt. Apo thru Kidapawan where you can also see boiling mud and a hot pool.

    • @farleyfuentebella6563
      @farleyfuentebella6563 2 роки тому +1

      @@joaquinvillacera5323 The saguyon vying for the title of smallest commercially edible fish is still contestable. On record, it is the sinarapan. The saguyon goby is considered rare and may not be viable to be harvested commercially in the longer run. Also, on record the smallest fish is the dwarf minnow at 8-11 mm also found around south east Asia, but it is not considered as an edible or commercial fish.

I did not know that the skin of the pili nut can be eaten (dipped in fish sauce and kalamansi). Then the nut is dried under the sun and then cracked one by one. It is very hard to crack them because the shell is very hard. There is a certain technique in cracking them so that the nut will come out, whole. Very tricky. Drive safe. Thank you and Power On!
