- WOR-FM 98.7 New York - Bill Brown - 1969
Recorded from Rewound Radio's WOR-FM Labor Day Weekend 2012.
Rewoundradio.com play Oldies from the 50s, 60's & 70's, 24.7. Check them out! A truly great online radio station, from people who love the music as much as you do.
I was born in 1959. My older brother and sister listened to WOR FM. It introduced me to old RnR. Thanks for posting.
You’re welcome! I’ve posted a few other OR-FM, as well as CBS FM from the 70s & 80s.
I was born in '52. I loved early rock 'n' roll. Grew up listening to it in grade school. I was a long time WMCA listener but OR-FM got me around 1968. OR-FM was a great mix of currents and lots of pre-64 oldies and it sounded great on FM.
A man with a golden voice.
It’s amazing how long he stayed at CBS-FM
Nothing beats the sound of real Drake radio! My fav Bill Brown incarnation was KGB SD.. and the progressive top 40 WCBS FM NYC.
Yes, Bill Brown had an excellent, resonant voice and superb timing on the "talk ups." A few years later, he joined WCBS FM, playing oldies. My fellow broadcast students at Seton Hall University and I all went to their studios and met Bill who was the "Program Director" at the time. He was very nice to us. Bill Brown was a tremendous talent.
RIP Bill Brown. You are missed but never forgotten.
I always loved listening to him. It was sad when my radio career took me away from NJ, & I could no longer hear the great personalities on CBS-FM.
What year was that?
Golden pipes hiid moving show.
I've lived in the NYC metropolitan area all my life ( Over 50 years ) and I have NEVER heard of WOR FM.......AM yes ,I remember that station since I was a little kid. MAN, I'm stupid.
You know I enjoy this Bill Brown was so under rated
WOR-FM back then was a great sounding fm station , sounded great on my father's Fisher 500 tube receiver with stereo beam, going to summer house in Columbia county ny , I remember on rt 22 WOR Fm could be heard clearly up to millerton ny which is about 85 miles from the empire state building
I remember WOR-FM raining down from the ceiling speakers on the evening shift at PathMark. Great station and the best of the Drake top of the hour ID’s (and CKLW). Thanks for posting this.
great. worked with BB at CBS-FM in 1977-78. what a giant
W O W ! I JUST LEARNED OF BILL BROWN'S PASSING ! IN 2011 I HAVE MISSED HIM ALL THESE YEARS AND WONDERED WHAT HAPPENED TO HIM ! AND WHAT I WILL MISS IS THE SMILES AND LOVE HE GAVE US ALL , IN HIS ' ON AIR PATTER ' AND ESPECIALLY HIS SPECIAL MUSICAL ' BROWN BAG LUNCHES ' ! ON ' WCBS FM 101.1 ' ! R. I. P.
Laura Marzz Bill Brown RIP One of the KGB bossjocks before his move to the big apple in the late 60s.
I remember the subway advertisement for WOR FM: "A cut above the norm.....98.7"
I think I remember that!
Loved the Drake-formatted OR-FM! Great mix of currents, recurrents and pre-64 oldies. Also, a lot of records WABC wasn't playing. Vividly recall listening to "The History of Rock 'n' Roll" documentary.
Brings back memories. Used to love this station. I would record many hours of music on my reel to reel recorder. Thank you.
Love the compression/limiting going up and down during that Camaro spot
Ah yes... the days when the VU meters on the Mod Monitor would just vibrate at 100%!
lol
Just so you don't think you are important... I so admire your work! No really! Thanks!
chuck weigel You’re welcome! I try to post one aircheck everyday after I finish my morning show. I can’t believe over 2600 have been posted! If you have any old audio you wouldn’t mind sharing, I’d be honored if you’d let me post it here!
Sounds great.
Yes, I remember the top 300 played around the Christmas week. That was the Duprees at number 50...(you belong to me) "Number 49 belongs to the Elegants" Where are you little star...
I was close...40 belonged to the Duprees 39 to the Elegants. Just found the top 300 playsheet online. But that was from memory. Not bad for over 40 years in high school.
newjerseybt That is impressive!
Ellis Feaster For some reason I have some weird partial photographic memory. The DJ at the time actually said "number 39 belongs to the Elegants". I had my little G.E. tape recorder with no capstan drive recording most of the top 300. The recordings were so poor that I never saved them. R.I.P. Bill Brown.
Before he left for CBS FM.
This is the drake format that ruined the stationmaster.
Did this become WXLO??
xstugee Yep!
Then kiss fm 98.7 kiss
