Fishplate it all the way arond. First weld the break and grind it smooth. Then plate it atleast 6 inches beyond the break. Don't weld straight up and down. The ends of your plates should be at a 45 degree angle or angled both ways to the center. It won't break along your welds that way.
I am retired after 47 years as a truck driver, diesel mechanic, and truck shop manager. Any time you are expecting temps below 10 degrees your fuel should be 70% #2, 30% #1 or kerosene, and double treat with additive. If you get stuck with summer fuel and it gets cold unexpectively. double treat with anti-gel and buy enough kerosene to bring the fuel to at least 20% kerosene ( had t do that to the farm equipment this year). Gelling is not the only issue. Double treating with additive also minimizes fuel line icing. I managed a fleet of semi-tractors (200 vehicles) and had almost zero issue with fuel gelling foe many years. Sending a driver out at below zero temps with dodgey fuel is next to criminal. These operations were out of the Twin Cities and we were sending units to Bismarck, Billings, and Winnipeg.
Strip it down to the basic frame. Remove paint about 1 1/2" from the crack. Straighten it out the best you can to align it. Clamp to an I-beam to keep it straight. Tack it back together. V out the crack and weld it up preferably with 7018. Grind out tacks if needed to get a full penetration. Weld fish plates where ever you can without interfering with rams etc. Clean. paint. That is the short version.
Grandpa had a Ferguson TO-30 in the 60s, in Iowa. When it got cold and nothing else on the farm would start, it would. And it sat outside. Uses it to pull start other tractors and '56 GMC pick-up.
We still love to see you christmas tree so don't hurry packing it down 🙂 Nice to see alle the moister you get via the snow - perfect for the test harwest season. Good job Cale regarding handling the snow and moving the corn - there is always a lot to be done on the farm 😯✌
I'm a retired truck driver, and I live in Wisconsin, the companies that I drove for usually use a 80/20 blend with an additive like Howes. One time in Fargo pulling a reefer I filled up the reefer tank with straight No 1
Cale, things happen to the best of us! "Tomorrow is a New Day". I'm not a welder, just a fellow farmer who has to repair his equipment from time to time. I would align the cracks of the blade the best you can and tack it in place, then grind the crack out to a V, fill that with weld and grind smooth. Then weld your plates on over top of that, should work just fine. I see no need to replace that blade as it looks like the rest of it is in good condition. Good luck
On the blade.... get it back together as you can tack weld it then grind them out...and weld solid...then dimound plate the sides and bottem....good asnew and stronger then then it was....feul blend in truck...atleast 70/30....after it gets below zero degrees... Way to keep going Cale ...just another day...lol
This is interesting to me as it the complete opposite to where I live in the subtropics in north Easter Australia where we don’t really have a winter and summers are very hot and extremely humid. Planning a trip to the Midwestern USA including Nebraska soon. I am enjoying your videos.
Enjoy watching you & learning a lot about Farm Life. Ty for sharing. Always looking forward to your next video. I live on a half acre in Marion Arkansas
you probably already fixed your snow scraper, I hope you cut the crack before welding, welding cracked edges is not very reliable, you need to cut off the damaged metal around the edges
Thanks for showing us the thing that happen when it gets cold and snowy and there is work that has to get done. Farm life is hard at times and huge problem and things break. But i thank you for all the hard work and for sharing the bad along with the good. As you said tomorrow is a new day and planting is just arround the corner.
We use 1 one fuel oil to heat our house two 250 tanks in the basement, then had the fuel truck fill or top off the fuel tanks on the tractors . In case of bad weather
The Kubota has a glow plug circuit. It should have an indicator on the dash that shows it on when you turn the key before cranking. I’m a retired Kubota dealer but I don’t remember if that key needs to be turned to the left of to the right and hold it at the position before it cranks. Maybe 45-60 seconds or so.
I really enjoy watching your videos . I think you are a very knowledgeable farmer and would love to meet you some day I was born and raised on a farm and was a 3rd generation farmer but had to sell out in 1995 as the milk price want to low and couldn't make money . I love watching you and your daughters videos . I'm in ohio . Keep up the good work and keep the videos coming .
Not too bad of a job to fix if you have a good welder and torch. Def. Reinforce the side walls with strapping because there seems to be alot of twisting there.
Cale if your truck does not use DEF fluid and not computerized, you could dump a gallon of methyl hydrate in a full tank of diesel fuel, that will definitely keep it from jelling
Plate it down both sides and the bottom. The full length not just patch it where it broke. Cut hole out where the cylinder attaches. Odds are that’s ole Mexico steel it’s made of.
You look good and cold my friend in the winter time you should run number one diesel in the summertime you can run 50/50 totally up to you I use number one diesel never had a freeze up yet😎😎😎🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸😎😎😎🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸
Please explain snow snakes to your viewers who come from warm climates. I used to see a lot of them between Cheyenne, WY and Laramie WY during the winter.
Straight #1 Diesel during the winter months, #2 otherwise. During extreme situations, you can add 1 gallon of Unleaded per 100 gallons Diesel to prevent gelling up. Would not make it a habit, only as an emergency.
Sure, Cale has $17K just lying around needing to be spent when he can fix it for $200 in steel and welding rods plus a few hours time of him or his son.
No they are not aloud to run red fuel in their trucks. This is common knowledge and I know a farmer who was hit with a million dollar fine because he kept running red fuel after he was warned several times. They came to his yard and checked the 8 trucks sitting outside and all the trucks had farm plates on them.@@bigdog2024

All the challenges that farmers face make me highly respect them.
As a retired field mechanic who worked much of his life in Northern Minnesota (outdoors), you sure do make me appreciate retirement down south. 🥶
AWE MAN!!!!!! LOVE THOSE 2 old tractors. BOTH so iconic

Nothing is going to stop you. Great job.
Cale my friend, we all need you. you are an inspiration to many.

Be sure to disconnect the batteries on the tractor before welding on the blade. Had a neighbor who fried some controllers once!

The snowdifts are huge in Nebraska
❤👍👍✌️✌️✌️
Oi tudo bem tudo bom tudo joia beleza abrir 👍👍👍✌️
I used to work at a warehouse that was -5, windchill -20, and a blast freezer of -25. That was 25 years ago.

We've had 40 to 50 below temps for over a week. School never closed. 18 below would be nice.

Cold weather just make life harder on a farm. Everything just takes longer.
Frosty video 😊
Thanks for taking us along!😮

Cale you are so blessed amen 🙏 ❤
40 miles from the Canada/US border. 50/50 mix plus conditioner, In prolonged -20s to -30s fills are all straight 1 and conditioner.

I would retire to Florida!😂 Love your show!

HEY overhead worked GREAT! But did i miss some videos of the project getting completed??
I would run a 80/20 or 70/30 blend with power device additive.Carrying new fuel filters is a good idea also.
What things to have/use in the winter time.
battery warmer/s
synthetic oils.
block heater/s.
7:15 ::kitten comes walking up:: I want to learn welding!
You need a good snow pusher for the grin of your tractor. Lot easier than a back blade.
Welding time again !! Don't spare the rod and the 1/2 in plate !! Just make sure its all lined up perfect !!!
Cale if your truck does not use DEF fluid and not computerized, you could dump a gallon of methyl hydrate in a full tank of diesel fuel, that will definitely keep it from jelling
Btw ? Nice video , i know about show/north east Canada . Ya have a new subscriber!
Aww, the chaos of winter, takes me back.... As a recent transplant to NE, is this winter or last winter more typical of your winter?
good vid bud..
I’m thinking a little bailing wire will fix that.
👍
Find out what the new replacement part would cost first!
I use seasonal fuel for winter and the expensive diesel 911.
Always thinking of others!
When it was that cold I would have put in straight number 1 fuel then you end up with a blend with what you had in the truck
Plate it down both sides and the bottom. The full length not just patch it where it broke. Cut hole out where the cylinder attaches. Odds are that’s ole Mexico steel it’s made of.
Why not use a angled blade for the front of the tractor?? No tire marks and seems like it would be easier to see and manage... enjoy your week..
I’m suprised that kubota didn’t start in the subzerocold
Cale I'm surprised that you don't own a front mount snow blower for one of your tractors
I'm sure you've had someone tell you, but just weld the blade back like regular, and then weld plate over the outside to strengthen it.
In southern MN we use 70% #1 or 50/50 blend plus Power Service added.
Hey Cale love to come and help
put air in ur big truck.. tires r low in back end....
I am curious to know if you were referring to King Henry V or General Chang???
get rid of it, getasnow pusher HLA and a rear snow blower
That is some classic brittle fracture there
If you like the weather in Nebraska wait 15 minutes it will change hello my eastern Nebraska friend from Oshkosh Nebraska
I heard a story that some farmer named Grant is looking for a 3020 to buy…
Sound of money falling into that bin!
Move to upstate New York where we measure snow in feet not inches.
Looks like Michigan
Straight one
Good time to try a balaclava!
But new blade. Fix busted one for back up.
Sure, Cale has $17K just lying around needing to be spent when he can fix it for $200 in steel and welding rods plus a few hours time of him or his son.
Easy fix, just weld it. 😉
Too much tractor for that size blade!
Christmas lights??
Take some photos and send them to the Rhino engineers and request they email you a repair sketch..
Just wondering, do you ever feel like you’re chasing your tail. Lol!!
$17k for a new one. Holy inflation!!!
Weld It, Then Put a Saddle Over It.....And Paint It So Your "Chatty Friends" Ain't The Wiser.!!!
Honestly I'd call Gage and have him come over and fix it with the plasma cutter and weld it up with reinforcement.
Since dad passed are you still running cattle?
could you weld it?.
Dry very first thing! Remove the Rhino sticker. Because it was not built like a rhino. Not heavy duty enough for Cale😂
👋😊
just fix it just a little welding
Straighten, weld and plate it.
Put some kerosene in the tank. Make sure it’s clear. About a gallon
Only things happen to those who are doing things.
If you ran green fuel with winterizer in it like the federal law says. You wouldn’t create your own problems.
Farms get to run red fuel, they are exempt from taxes on fuel. That’s common knowledge if you know anything about farming or taxes.
No they are not aloud to run red fuel in their trucks. This is common knowledge and I know a farmer who was hit with a million dollar fine because he kept running red fuel after he was warned several times. If I'm not mistaken, your daughter is a welder! ...Just saying.
You need a good experienced welder for that job, shes just learning how.
That’s what happens when you put too much horsepower on a piece of equipment.
You must be a clone of Captain Kirk. lol
You should never work on Sunday. lol That should have never broken.......that's just cheaply made.
Typical winter condition here in Quebec
