I was raised in northern Pennsylvania. When I was 12 Y.O, I was chosen to be the dedicated snow plow operator on the farm. We used to get 2-3 feet of snow every year. I loved it.We had 2 locations to move snow. My dads farm and my grandfathers farm next door. I would be out all day and some nights moving snow to make way for the Milk trucks. I loved the job. That was back in the late 60s', and early 70s'. That was the awesome part of living in the country.
I lived about a mile from town I did many driveways, mostly friends and seniors. They were for the most part free. Of course when diesel was 50¢ a gallon and my 560 cost $ 2500 If I still had my health and my tractor I would be doing it. It was always enjoyable and rewarding.
Don’t mind moving snow if you know where the driveway is. We have a tractor mounted snowblower that we really like and I like it even better when we don’t have to use it. Here in western Wisconsin we only have about 3” on the ground so far. 2:58
Snow plows are nice for moving snowfall. Buckets are nice for moving snow drifts. Learned that being born and raised in the vicinity of I-80 in n. central Il. and living most of my adult life in n. Wi.
In my tiny town I plow a church a food pantry and a dozen driveways. 3 pay...it's funny the ones who have money give zero, but the who can't afford want to pay me but I won't except it. You will see the curtains move as they peek out and when you leave and look behind you they are leaving to go to town to buy a $8 coffee.
I'm sorry to hear about your property damage. I had no idea you got that much snow! Hang in there and thank you for sharing the sledding video--nothing better than a great sledding day.
We will just wait to see what insurance says and then take it from there! The kids loved the sled day… I also think it helped that Uncle Ben had the goer bringing them back up the hill and not having to walk!

Hi ben ! the car port can be fixed , I know a guy that had the same thing happen 7 years ago and they pushed it back up in place and added some more bracing . still holding .
Been awhile since we had some good snow. Funny thing is when it was forecast, everyone was screaming like they lived in the South and this should not be happening. 😂 How soon they forget... It stinks about your carport, something always has give. I bet you can fix 'er up and reinforce that roof better than new. Hopefully this get into the ground it landed on, instead of all running downstream. Glad to see new videos!
The things we do for love, lucky yo dont have a list of jobs to do like me LOL. Although you have snow we just hitting 40oC summer heat, its either sweat or nice air conditioning, last week wasn't hot but really humidity. Awesome thunder/lightning stroms with 50mm of rain, two days later nearly all dry up. Hope you can save shed roof😟
My youngest son lives in Newton Iowa. He has been trying to get me and his mother to move up there too. Iowa is a beautiful place to go in the summer but from October to April I'm not going to Iowa!
We lucked out for once here in NW Iowa, we didn’t see half as much snow as you did. I think you should get a push blade for the front of the quad track! You’d be done in no time!
What does the weather stick say about this weather? Can you even find the weather stick? I scooped the driveway 3 times. Once after the snow, the other 2 after everything drifted shut. Now they are saying freezing rain is coming. Greaaaaatttttt.
Wintertime at the farm city kids would go parking on the back road. When they would get stuck they'd walk up to our farm house. I'd be up watching TV. I would go to the machine shed and bring the Massey and pull them out. Made decent money.
I learned a trick a long time ago plowing with a guy in his seventies. Use more of a "V" pattern taking a bite or two on the left side, pushing it off the side and then to the right side. As you get close to the edge lift your plow a foot as to not tear up the grass. Unfortunately every time you try to plow through the middle when it's this deep and heavy, you're going to break stuff. A lesson I had to learn the hard way several years, until he showed me his trick. I broke a whole lot less plow parts and springs when I used my brain and not just brute force. Hope that helps.
I watch a lot of farmers, several have side jobs(plus their YT channel) Tony Fast polishes rims & Cole digs graves. Cole had a crazy person show up at his house once, got in his vehicles & wandered around the property & wouldn’t leave. Extremely stupid thing to do at a guy’s house who digs graves.
You know if you had a swing arm offset on that back blade you could either shelf off a roadside pile, or clear more width in 1 pass on the straightaways.
Used to move snow with 3020 open station tractor in WI, therapist asked me today if my purple ears and nose came from frostbite, said probably, 76yo, cover up!
Carport? If you have a torpedoe heater, drill a big hole, fit the end of the heater in. Given the flimsy and probable lack of insulation, snow melts. With luck roof springs back, door opens. Seggest putting in 4x4 pillars and ridge pole brace running length of carport for now......

Great job plowing snow Ben
Great video Ben
Another great video, Ben. Here in the UK, if we get 3 to 4 inches of snow, the country stops.
How rare is that? Spent a summer in London, hope to get back over there to experience agriculture sometime.

About time to invest in a snow blower, even a used fixer upper for the future would help a lot in long run with big snows.
It would be nice to have one but this would be the second time I would need it on 5 years.
Thank god I live in the south. I think the last snow was 2019 in our area.

About 20 inches on the ground after both storms came through in eastern Iowa. Probably the most we've recieved in that short a time in my lifetime.

Hole in exhaust manifold
I'm willing to bet that the cylinder mount broke first, then it tore the fitting apart because that's all the slack in the hose it had.
I’m guessing you’re correct
We didn't get the snow, but we got subzero temperatures .and negative real feel temperatures
Did it freeze up good then?
@iowANFarmer yes it did freeze up for about 3 solid day's some negative temperatures also new subscriber
Snow moving is hard on equipment, hoses, cylinders etc
And the people running the equipment!
You know if you had a swing arm offset on that back blade you could either shelf off a roadside pile, or clear more width in 1 pass on the straightaways.
That's a really good idea! Where can you get one?
Are you using any kind of fuel treatment to keep yer tractor starting and running?
Howes - and I make sure it starts running treated diesel before it needs to, to make sure its well blended in the system. I also over treat.

The sooner the pumps replaced the sooner the fuel problem is done. It's probably bleeding back when sits more than 6-8 hrs.
That’s what’s happening. But not sure why it’s actually bleeding back.
sounds like it may be a battery issue or you need to install an engine block heater
How much do you charge to move snow.

Ben, tractors are surprisingly helpless on snow, especially if there is ice underneath. I’m sure you already know this, but your viewers may not.
Luckily/Unlucky the ground wasn’t complete frozen so I had traction this time. Second time around, not so lucky.
