The Spartan-II Program taught the Spartans to focus on more than one enemy. Humanity was outnumbered, outgunned, and the Spartans would be even more so on the battlefield. They were taught to not just focus on one enemy; if you do that while outnumbered, there's a good chance you will be killed by the enemy you don't notice. Not even Spartans can escape the cold grasp of death. This is covered in the novels.

Good call. Sry to reply to such an old post but I haven't really seen anyone else mention this before. I think people forget about Gravemind... It's not just 7 year rampancy, Halo has a lot of history repeating itself and Cortana is basically going down the same path that mendicant bias went down

EXP Sheepy Their relationship has been there since the first game. It was obvious they cared about each other. Cortana was going rampant in Halo 4, she was dying. Chief knew that there was nothing he could do to save her despite the odds. He needed to find Halsey. For the first time, Chief was realizing he was human, that he's not a machine. For the first time, he was shaken to his core. Without Cortana, he wouldn't have been able to do what he has done in the past 3 games. He basically lost his best friend, and quite possibly the one character who knew him best. It was obviously seen through out Halo 4 that Chief's mental state was... questionable. Disobeying orders to save Cortana, taking the mission on his own initiative. At the end of Halo 4, he was left questioning his motives and intentions. He was realizing that he's more than just a machine and tool, he's only human. I thought 343 showed the relationship between the two almost perfectly. The narrative and emotion was phenomenal. You don't have to agree, and I don't have to agree with you. It's ONLY a matter of personal opinion.
The Flood *may* have been the cause of the events in Halo 4 and 5
Reasons:
-The Didact was tortured by a Gravemind which explains his instability and Flood-esque appearance.
-Cortana was tortured by a Gravemind as well. She either had the Logic Plague or suffered the same fate as the Didact
That means the Flood were a part of Halo 4 and 5 even if they didn't make an appearance. Quite ominous.

@@thebeeghoont7888 Logic Plague is something the Flood use, in addition to infection, to corrupt and twist the minds of any AI and even biological minds. Basically makes you go crazy over time and you eventually start serving the Flood's design or at the very least become totally unstable. The Logic Plague was used in the War before the firing of the Halos to infect the Forerunner's most powerful AI AND the Didact that you fight in Halo 4.
Logic plague: Flood that gets your mind rather than your body. For all your unstoppable brainwashing needs

I always wanted to see cortana "saved" by ending up in an organic body of her own. Like a young clone body of Halsey. And her and chief just being like DEUCES to they galaxy they saved numerous times.
@@judd5936 I could totally see that maybe being part of Halo's ultimate ending - perhaps in the end, Humanity will ascend to the Mantle and develop enough technologically to cure Rampancy and to create android bodies to host AIs that want to live free beyond their limited lifespan.
Just a thought. They need to provide a solid explanation for Cortana's behaviour first though - is it Rampancy, Logic Plague, or what?

@@judd5936 I read a fanfic like that once where they stabilized the flash cloning process somehow and created a clone body and put Cortana's consciousness into it....not sure what the fanfic was called...it was a long time ago but I imagine it was a prelude to Chief and Cortana finally being able to have a romantic relationship

This game came out in 2015 but the graphics hold up so well even in 2020. Those cutscenes are crisp as hell.

Dialogue in Halo is always repeated, and often under different circumstances. It's rather poetic.
Take for instance the final line of Combat Evolved.
Cortana "An entire Covenant armada obliterated, and the flood. We had no choice. Halo, it's finished."
Chief "No, I think we're just getting started."
Now the final dialogue of Halo 3.
Cortana: "Truth and the Covenant, the Flood. It's finished."
Chief: "It's finished."

Well no, lore wise things like the logic plague exsits where a flood gravemind would manipulate AI'S by mentally beating them int'll they are unknownly doing what the gravemind wants.
Cortana was with the gravemind end of halo 2-mid halo 3. It's possible this is logic plague which I hope it is and not "This isn't the original cortana but a fragment of her after halo 4 ending" which would make less sense.

Watching this just made me realize something: in halo infinite's trailers, the fight they lost might not be that infinity is gone, it might mean a plan they had failed, and the game might be about the remaining unsc foces regrouping, reorganizing, and wining.

While the Arbiter wasn't in Infinite, a few days ago a new book was announced to be coming out called Halo: Outcasts and it features the Arbiter and Olympia Vale from Fireteam Osiris going to the planet Netherop in search of an artifact that supposedly can help to defeat Cortana while an outside force manipulates them. I'm guessing that that's Nizat 'Kvarosee and I'm hoping that it FINALLY brings an end to his character.
Master Chief looked up to the dark, ocean blue skies. His cracked visor made it a bit unclear and slightly misty, though he saw the view either way. He stared at where the Guardian had been, where it had been engulfed by the portal and dragged away with Cortana.
Once, he had known the AI as his greatest friend, and possibly his favourite person. Though he couldn't believe she would do such dark things to the galaxy, after all their fighting, it lead to nothing but more battle even when they had tried to stop it. Locke walked up to Chief, setting a hand on his shoulder as his deep voice murmured "We've tried to warn you, Chief."
Master Chief just slowly lowered his gaze as the vivid vision would return, him seeing Cortana walking away with his team behind him, and the AI giving a goodbye before leaving. Though the desperate screaming from outside the cryptum was what shook him up most. He wasn't a simple soldier no longer.
He was a target from the most powerful AI in the universe.

she absolutely does, that is why she wanted to keep him locked up so he would be safe until she had control of the galaxy, but she also knows chief wouldn't stand by and let her do this, hence why she locked him up

But it follows the history of Halo the Forerunners took the mantel from the Precursors who waging war in the process. Or the Covenant in a sense took the mantel from them witht he whole great journey belief.
Well theyve fought aliens, super plagues and godlike precursors. I mean the enemies were never exactly groundbreaking, general (if fairly cool) takes on your everyday sci fi enemies. Angry A.Is are just another trope to explore

FryedOnyx HD when she speaks to John she doesn't seem evil at all and seems like same old cortana and seems like her plan is actually the right thing to do but when she talks to Locke she sounds evil and acts evil so IDK part of me feels like she's just trying to do the right thing and the other part feels like she's just doing this for her own desire to take over the galaxy. I guess we will find out what's really going on with her in halo 6.
