thanks so much for watching! Ive actually never really thought about the end till now! haha all can remember when i was learning it was that it was a grouping of 6 notes, Snare Kick Kick Snare Kick Kick. after listening back to it the riff is in 7/8 so they are playing the first 6 notes and then resting for one 8th and then playing again, ALL OVER a quarter note pulse.... i think hahaha thats what makes them some of the greatest musicians out there! hope that helped! Cheers!
SO glad to hear you liked everything including the production! Im always trying to improve every cover and make it look and sound as good as possible! Thanks for watching and look out for a new cover very soon!
of course dude! Once I realized the snare was just changing at certain beats in the triplet, i made the connection that it was just groupings of 6! they are so good at making poly rhythms sound very natural, especially this album with all the triplet subdivisions they use within the 4/4. thanks for watching this Mike! Cheers!
absolutely. It sounds so natural. and like you said, once you know what the pattern is it makes sense - like the beginning section of verse 2 where Joey plays the stack. Sounds kinda hard, but it really just makes sense. I published my cover on my channel if you want to check it out!
hahaha! surprised someone caught that! yeah there actually isnt a crash there but i always kept hitting one there so this take i held back but still put my arm in the air ready to! hahaha! thanks for watching Morgan! Cheers!
really appreciate the kind words Lorenzo! I do everything to make these videos so to hear you liked the editing is just as good as to hear! and i agree, the playing in this song is more "simple" i guess but fits better with the music in this album! Cheers man!
It's definitely more simple than their previous works. However, I feel like they perfected a 'tone' with Clairvoyant. It's unique and entrancing. The Contortionist has always had ambient, trancelike vibes in a lot of their songs throughout all the albums, but Clairvoyant is just filled with it. I love it, but I do miss the contrast of heavy with calm. Keep up the good work!
Im thinking about actually covering that one too! I love the second half of that song in 9/8, probably my favorite beat of the whole album haha thanks for watching Chris! Cheers
I made it up It's complicated I gave up On giving it a name Things are implied Nothing's the same Worried I won't remember where to begin I wish this would end What will it take for us? Thanks so much for the Sub! Hopefully a new cover here soon! I learn all my covers by ear actually but I think there is a full Drum Transcript that The Contortionist sell!
Awesome cover, man - inspired me a lot! Did you learn the song by ear or with the official drum book? Because in the drum book Joey's playing a different hihat-ride variation during the first verse (second half). Very hard to hear in the original song what he's actually playing. You can check out my cover to compare the part - i'm interested in what you think!
thanks for watching! glad it got you pumped to cover it too! haha such a good song! and yeah all by ear since the book didnt come out when I covered it i think! and I checked out yours and that ride section makes a lot more sense now haha! i knew it was something to keep a 16th note pulse
Godspeed is actually in 4/4 at 120 bmp the whole time, they just are so good now at polyrhythms that they metric modulate around the 4/4 in a 6/8 feel in some places
haha yea i get that a lot! trying not to fuck up the drum parts plus being alone in a dark room tracking this for hours can get a little boring tho haha but i LOVE the process and making drums covers more than anything! im definitely not bored at all hahah Cheers!
its a Tama SLP G-Bubinga snare! I love it! you should hear it in my Plini Flaneur cover i just posted, Chris Ghazel mixed it and it sounds even better hahaha Cheers!
I bought spotify premium just to be able to listen to this album on repeat. Still haven't regretted it.
Its such a great album! Fresh of breath air in this prog metal world now! thanks for watching dude! Cheers!
Why not buy the album itself? Bandcamp!
I still can't wrap my head around what's being played on the outro. Good work!
thanks so much for watching! 6:04 haha i saw that smile and the "ah shit I missed that left hand crash"
hahaha! surprised someone caught that! yeah there actually isnt a crash there but i always kept hitting one there so this take i held back but still put my arm in the air ready to! hahaha! thanks for watching Morgan! Cheers!

I made it up
It's complicated
I gave up
On giving it a name
Things are implied
Nothing's the same
Worried I won't remember where to begin
I wish this would end
What will it take for us?
What will it take for us?
What will it take for us to
If you pray for us
Pray for love
It might just save us from
It just might
I made too much
Overrated
I gave too much
As if there was something to gain
Things are implied
Nothing's the same
Worried I won't remember where to…
