    Trivia question. Why is the Eagle so small on the reverse if the Franklin Half? Answer - Ben did NOT like the Eagle and thought the National Bird should be the Turkey. He finally agreed on the Eagle...but a much smaller version.

      Interesting! Here is some more information from pcgs.com-
      “For my own part, I wish the bald eagle had not been chosen as the representative of our country,” Franklin decried, suggesting that the eagle was “a bird of bad moral character” and “does not get his living honestly” because the bird is known to steal food from other animals. Also apparently, to fulfill the legal requirement, half dollars must depict the figure of an eagle on the back of the coin. Thanks so much for your comment!
