I would give anything for these guitars to exist...

- There have been a ton of great signature guitars over the years-but I think we've had enough signature Teles, Strats, and Les Pauls. Here are some signature guitars that would shake things up.
This isn't a list of the world's most popular guitarists. To build it, I looked at a few of my favorite rising artists who seem to get better with each album cycle, musicians I think have an interesting approach to the instrument, brands and makes/models that haven't gotten a lot of signature attention, and vibes.
But my number one thing was to find guitarists who clearly have a special bond with a unique instrument.

I think JB's acoustasonic would be cool but it would have to be the strat or the jazz. I don't think she ever plays a tele version and the one Yvette painted is the strat so it makes sense. But even then, what mods would they make other than just a cool paint job? A signature model should be more than just an aesthetic thing... which is why I'd like to point out that her butterscotch tele is actually really special. It was a gift from Fender that she had modded here at Martin Music in Memphis. They routed out the neck pickup and swapped it out for a P90 and I think that makes a huge difference in her sound. Idk if anyone else has a signature tele with a P90 in the neck and it would be a really cool chance for her to have her name on something functionally unique rather than just aesthetically unique.
LMAO you're right!!!! How broken is my brain that I've looked at that guitar 100 times and each time my brain registered a Tele 😂😂😂
@@GetOffset Lol Nah you're doing great. I think it's just cause JB plays teles pretty much anytime she's not playing that Stratacoustic.
There is *kinda* a signature tele with a p90 neck pickup stock. The schecter pt special is named after Pete Townsend who had one for a hot sec.
@@rileyhunt3987 That's fair! But I'm just talking Fender/Squier.
The St. Vincent is probably the coolest modern signature guitar. I would do things I'm not proud of for a gold one.
The gold Goldie is up there for me!
I've never liked the pointy squarish design but this is one of the best looking guitar ever
I’ve always wanted to see a Tina Weymouth signature Mustang Bass with the extra neck pickup and racing stripe. I’d buy that thing the second it was available lol
You and me both!
OMG yes!!
I absolutely love the Beths, Boygenius, and Deep Sea Diver so this was a perfect list for me. I’m pretty sure in that rig rundown Jessica mentions she mostly replaced her Starcaster with her custom Bilt live because of the weight. I’d love to see her get a custom model because she deserves it and the Starcaster needs more love.
I believe you're right that she's not playing the Starcaster as much because of the weight, which is a shame. Seems fixable, though! And a perfect change for a signature model, just sayin'
I'll wait for a Belinda Butcher signature Jazz or Jag.❤
a Jackson Surfcaster reissue!
Thanks for mentioning Danelectro's connection to Prop. 8, which has been overlooked but deserves to be mentioned often.
It's disappointing, to say the least!
This is something I had no clue about. I almost pulled the trigger on a new danelectro earlier this year. I'm real glad I didn't and bought a bass instead.
Well Danelectro has become seriously uncool. Homophobia is antithetical to good music. Glad I got the Reverend & not the Danelectro. Boycott !
I would love for Anna Calvi to have a signature telecaster
Liz Phair Mustang
Extreme agree on Molly Rankin's Duo Sonic and Alicia Bognanno's Squier 51. I got into Alvvays after watching a video of Ben Gibbard covering Archie, Marry Me and have been a huge fan ever since. Coincidentally I was also introduced to Bully by seeing them open for Death Cab and at the time Alicia was using the "Offset" series Duo Sonic HS as a backup guitar. I bought one after seeing them lol.
Thanks for mentioning the Squier 51, I’ve always thought that model was the start of the whole Parallel Alternate Pawn Reality Universe Shop thing.
You bet!
Keep making videos! Always really interesting. Thank you
Thanks, will do!
The Pawnshop '51 is such a good guitar, and it definitely needs to come back!
Everyone hardcore agrees on this and the G&L
Jessica Dobson is just awesome. Impossible to leave her off of this list. Thx
No doubt!
Great suggestions! And thank you for introducing me to some musicians that I need to listen...
Thanks for watching!
That 51 is sick, I love it
Couldn't agree more about the JB acoustasonic. I ended up buying my acoustasonic after watching her Re:Creations video and it seems like JB is really enjoying playing the acoustasonic on stage. Also glad to see Elizabeth Stokes on this list!
I am now aghast that I called it a Telecaster Acoustasonic. Shows how much I associate JB with Teles, eh?
The Beths rule! Hoping to see them in Seattle this August with Alvvays, but it depends on if I'm in town.
Being really cheeky with the chapter titles. 🤪 I was looking for spoilers. 🤘 I love the Beths too! Excited for that one
Hah! TBH I really tried to bury the lede a bit here.
Jenn Wasner has a signature Reverend that looks great. I would love to see more women with signature pedals also. The dual vibrato "Artificial Blonde" Madison Cunningham pedal from JHS is one of my favorites and never leaves the board.
The Artificial Blonde is such a cool pedal!
I love this idea for a video… it’s a way more creative way to talk about specs. We get to see cool axes and you’re pointing out some cool artists I might not have heard of otherwise. I hope some of these guitars get made.
Glad you liked it--thanks for watching!
Omg. Hearing you like the Beths is so cool! I would totally buy a sig G&L
This was suuuuuch a cool list & video; I am so happy that Joy Oladokun was mentioned as well! I don't see her mentioned much.
I think my dream signature guitar would be a Jag designed by Emily Kokal, of Warpaint, and/or a Laura Marling nylon-stringed cutaway (or even something like the hollowbody she uses sometimes).
I think shawn mendez has a duo sonic, a weird white one with flowers and wood pickguard, really cool tho
That was a musicmaster! Loved that finish and I guess I should have bought one when they were released because WHEW that price on reverb!
Great list! And thanks for the heads up about Dan-o. Disappointing to say the least!
Not my favorite guitar industry fact, for sure 🙃
I know this list was no Strats and Teles, but I've always wanted Marissa Paternoster from Screaming Females to have a signature G&L S-500 in any way shape or form! Whenever I think G&L she's the first guitarist that comes to mind, her sound is so massive for someone who almost exclusively uses the G&L middle pickup
Maybe not the right fit for a signature guitar in terms of popularity, but Meg Mills who has been playing with Turnstile has been playing one of the coolest custom pink Ibanezes that I’ve ever seen!
A few choices for me:
1) Vigier: Mary Spender
2) Martin: Elle Cordova (formerly, Reina Del Cid)
3) Fender or D'Angelico: Susan Tedeschi Telecaster/NY EX-SD
Suzi Gardner from L7 and her very modified vintage melody maker. She's one of my favourite guitarists of all time. So creative, always on point and "song effective" guitar playing from her. She clearly doesn't get the credit she deserves !
I second that for Molly's duo-sonic. Fender (and squier) are pushing offsets as they are played by all the indie scene. Molly Rankin represents the top of that mountain imo.
I would definitely buy the starcaster for my last money, if it had some bigsbystyle vibrato on it. And i would give signature guitars to Brittany Howard, Samantha Fish, and all of the Surfrajettes.
Ohhh a unique vibrato on the Starcaster is a great call. I have a Les Trem II on mine, but now I'm imagining a JM vibrato...
@@GetOffset My favourite bigsby style trem is the "Dusenberg Tremar". I installed it on my Guild Starfire (after the licemsed bigsby just fell off onstage). I love it but i understand that it's never going to be part of an american signature guitar ;) I highly recommend it nevertheless.
Poison Ivy Rorschach Gretsch
Prior to the premiere here, let’s just make the assumption I want the black one.
The G&L Fallout Tribute? Stellar choice. I don't think it's available in that color anymore :(
Emily, have you olayed the Fender Cyclone? There were a couple variants from about 1997-06. There is also a Squier Paranormal Series version now!
Yeah, I demoed one when they first came out. I did some fun wiring stuff with it!
Yes yes yes! Deep Sea Diver! I saw them live supporting Impossible Weight back in 2022 and was blown away! I would definitely buy that. It would be a cool contrast to Tom Delonge’s signature Starcaster!
The Fallout is a great guitar and Liz should totally get a signature model. It's almost as if G&L wants to hover below the radar forever...
I want G&L to succeed because their guitars RULE
@@GetOffset Agreed!
Does Blu DeTiger have a signature because they are incredible
Id love to see a Belinda Butcher Mustang.. really cool spec. Also Lindsay Jordan Snail Mail Jag and some kind of Sadie Dupuis sig would be sick - though really hard to pinpoint what that'd be!
Also re: Liz Stokes as a guitar player - when I saw them a couple years ago Jonathon got Covid and they did the remaining tour dates as a 3 piece. Liz absolutely shredded his solo spots, she's a fantastic guitarist!
Liz is a criminally underrated guitarist. I'm so mad I haven't been able to see them live yet!
frankie combos purple danelectro ?
I picked up a Blonde Squire ‘51 for $100. It needs some work, but looking forward to putting it through its paces.
What a FIND!
Awesome guitars if you can find one
Since you care enough to mention Prop 8, thank you, you might consider looking into the history of Music Man and how it relates to G&L Guitars.
Perhaps Jessica's signature Starcaster could utilize trestle bracing like Gretsch uses on some of their Electromatics.
Miki Berenyi Gibson ES-335 12 string, or a prferably and realistically more in my price range, Epiphone iteration would be sweet, though she seems to favour a Fender Strat XII these days. Honorouble mention would be a Carrie Brownstein sig Guild S-100.
We are listening to the exact same music and I've been obsessed with all of these artist's guitars. Silence is Golden makes me work for it and Liz makes it look so easy. I wore out Bully's first cd in my car when it first dropped, and the solo in Deepsea Diver's "Lights Out" is in my opinion the best solo I've ever heard. Jessicas rig rundown is what made me start listening. I would buy everyone of these suggestions in a hearbeat. (As a side note, I second bringing back the pawnshop series. I missed the boat because I was a broke child who could only daydream with the old Musician's Friend catalogs)
I haven't sat down to learn Silence is Golden but just watching her play it makes me really want to.
@@GetOffset its a really fun song and a good exercise in string skipping
Bilt needs to kick off a more affordable standard production line with a signature JD.
Just a note that the Alvvays bass is prob from 1974 or later. Prior to that they had different tuners, white pick guard. Usually but not always the 'rest was mounted below the G
Good to know!
@@GetOffset Oh, couple other details, early 70s had Mustang knobs, around 77 they switched to black Strat knobs and enlarged the pickguard to wrap around the heel a little. Sorry lol, longtime fan of musicmasters and owner of a 73
The Beths are amazing!!!
bought a fallout in december. it's fantastic. perfect indie/new wave guitar. would love to see a review on the channel.
I'd love that! I'd have to get one, first lol
@@GetOffset on the plus side they’re pretty cheap. Can’t believe how little the tribute series G&Ls cost. Squier money for fender player and above standard guitars. I’ve got a tribute series asat classic thinline that is phenomenal. Still trying to figure out if I’m going to keep my Doheny.
I have the G&L Tribute Fallout, it’s awesome - nails the Jerry Cantrell sound on the humbucker. Split coil with the P90 is excellent for indie. One of my favourites guitars, it’s also super light and sustains for years.
Ugh I need to get one! I've got a few saved on Reverb 😬
@@GetOffset I would strongly recommend it, they often appear heavily reduced in price.
@@GetOffset The humbucker on the Fallout is based on the Seymour Duncan 'JB'. About 15k/16k ohms.
Im in full agreement!
Kim Gordon should have her own Jaguar bass! She's a queen of punk rock and a bass icon as far as techniques and tunings let alone a totally unique plate! Then I believe Kim and Kelly deal of the breeders should also have their own signature squier models! They're a dynamic duo and have created and influenced more players than any other sisters!
G&L Fallout and SC-2 are two of my favorite models of all time. 🌹🌼🌻
I'm kinda torn on what to get if I can only get one.
@set My choice for a lone G&L is the Comanche, as those pickups are thoroughly amazing without noise (hence besting the jumbo MFDs for me). Other than that, the pickups from the Doheny and the Doheny V12 top my list: the regular Doheny pickups are derivatives of the jumbo MFDs (stronger and more easily controlled), and the V12's MFD humbuckers are derivatives of the F100's MFD humbuckers.
A Molly Rankin signature jag-stang would be awesome.
It would be really nice if Fender would bring back the Squier Paranormal Toronado (for more than two years this time)!
I would love a Lindsay Jordan, of Snail Mail, signature Jag
i think Gretsch ahould re-release their Malcolm Young Jet as a Sara Quin signature guitar. And let's give Emily Kokal and Theresa Wayman their signature Jag and Mustang - they're already working closely with Fender
Samantha Fish models in both 4 and 6 string versions?
So happy to Liz right up front, she’s the bethst!
Luna Li definitley deserves one! She was part of the fender next program and has been gaining popularity for a while now (She's also a Toronto artist so there is my bias)
Yes!
They really need a Poison Ivy Rorschach THE CRAMPS signature gretsch 6120 ,, I would also love to see a Kim Shattuck tribute Gretsch BST guitar it was a weird 70s Gretsch solid body but she was devoted to it
I also think Jane Weidlin needs a signature Gibson SG Jr and Siouxsie Sioux vox teardrop hollow body guitar
What a fantastic video have a wonderful day also what is your favorite guitar ❤❤❤❤❤❤😊😊😊😊😊😊
Please Could someone list the name/bands, I really want to listen to them and subtitles isn’t helping me
Band name is listed first, and the actual human musician is listed second.
The Beths / Liz Stokes
Alvvays / Molly Rankin
Bully / Alicia Bognanno
Julien Baker
Joy Oladokun
Deep Sea Diver / Jessica Dobson
Can they just make one of these guitars left handed please.
Great list, Emily! I am however going to bang my seemingly solitary drum for a Sister Rosetta Tharpe Les Paul (SG) Custom signature model until the day I die. I KNOW Gibson did the Custom Shop 1963 reissue but DAMN - they coulda put her name on it! A Squire model would be great, especially as their QC is currently blowing Gibson out of the water rn...
You are 100% right about that! I was trying to avoid popular models like SGs, otherwise she'd've been toward the top of the list.
@GetOffset I appreciate that, but she built the road on which we stand, y'know?
Totally! I got harassed big time on TikTok a year or so ago for pointing out that she basically invented rock'n'roll with "Strange Things," though that kind of depends on if you think the shuffling backbeat can't be considered rock'n'roll, I guess.
@@GetOffset I'm so sorry about that, people are asshats sometimes, and in this case they just don't know any better.
Basically, no Sister Rosetta, no Jimi, no SRV etc etc. That's just fact.
I'm sorry to be so hard line on this but as a black Queer non binary player, she is extremely close to my heart.
Keep on with the excellent work - I always enjoy your videos!
Don't apologize, you're right!! And thanks so much for watching
A Tribute level signature for Elizabeth Stokes would be mind-blowing to say the least. I own an Indonesian-made G&L and it's rock solid. Let's hope it happens someday!
We can dream!
What could be changed to make signature Tribute Fallout, given that she uses the stock pickups, other than maybe locking tuners? Personally, I want to see that body shape offered with different configurations and maybe a 24.75"-scale-length variant. I would rather have a Railhammer Humcutter Nuevo 90 than a dedicated P90 (for ease of swaps), but I think the rarely-used G&L MFD humbuckers from the F100 could be great!
Would have been cool to hear a shout out to Joan Jett & her recent Epiphone signature model. I'd love to see a Brody Dalle signature Maton MS503 (with a hard shell case and leopard print lining).
I know-I couldn't list everyone! But 💜 Joan and Brody
I love my Chrissie Hynde Tele.
It's solid!
I’d love to own Poison Ivy and Liz Phair signature models. They’re my favorite!
Another contender for a duo sonic! Ideally a Duo Sonic II
@@GetOffset absolutely! Short scale guitars are underrated.
Emma Anderson Tele Thinline
The Fallout BASS is short scale
See, that makes sense.
G&L should do a Fallout model version with their jumbo MFD pickups. I.e. A re-boot of the SC-2.
Adding to the list of signature models G&L should have: Marissa Paternoster! Amazing songwriter, lead and rhythm guitar player, and vocalist for the recently-disbanded Screaming Females (bummer but they had a great run!). She used to only use the middle pickup on her S-500, and saw a recent video of her playing an S-500 with the other pickups removed and a just a volume control. Maybe limits the appeal but I'd buy one, she's my favorite player by a long shot.
Absolutely! Didn't want to drop two G&Ls in the list, but she'd definitely be in the next one
Arielle was missing from the list of women with their own signature guitar at the beginning! Although it’s not an exact copy of her homemade guitar Two Tone and shares extra DNA with Brian May’s Red Special guitar (headstock/short scale), I still count it as a signature! (Not every Les Paul that came out has specs that Les Paul actually played, right?)
Of course, my BMG Arielle is my favorite guitar of all time and it literally checks all the boxes for me, so I’m very biased. 😅
That was not a definive list at all and I hope it didn't come across like that! I just named a few that came to mind or that I'd played
@@GetOffset No not at all! At the end you just said to add whoever else came to mind so I was commenting for the algorithm and fangirling at the same time. 🥹
Phoebe Signature Rubber Bridge
Thank you for saying it about USB chargers! That info about Danelectro hurts to hear. I would have really loved to have a powder blue Danelectro like Liz Phair uses but, ugh. edit: I'd love to see Sarah Lipstate get a signature but she uses just so many different guitars it would be hard to call one her signature.
Haha, I almost cut it because it was such a tangent but I'm glad I kept it!
Emma Ruth Rundle baritone Jaguar and Madison Cunningham Jazzmaster
Absolutely to Madison Cunningham especially.
A few things, I'd definitely like to see more female artists get the recognition they deserve with some signature guitars. G&L guitars are awesome and I agree, they should really get some in the hands of some younger artists. If I were to have a signature guitar it would either be a G&L Fallout, or a modified Fender Jagstang.
Shout out to the beths they rule! I want a 24 fret, 25.5 inch G&L Fallout. that would be cool
Yes!
Saw the fallout in the thumbnail and just knew it was Elizabeth. One of my favorite “new” bands
See! The association is there! Get on it, G&L!
Japan has lots of female musicians with sig model guitars.
Miku Kobato of Band-Maid has a sig Zemaitis, Saki of Nemophila, Silent Siren sig Tele and jazz bass etc
MISA of Band-Maid has a sig bass coming out soon.
I love that!
Lucy from boy genius is amazing...
She is!!!
The Artist known as H.E.R. has a sig model with fender which you said you weren't going to mentionn
I'm pretty sure I mention H.E.R. in the intro. I've demoed her signature guitar
I would buy a Beth Stokes G&L Tribute Fallout pretty much immediately
Saaaame
Well this is weird 🤣🤷♂️....so i watch this. And then I'm on Facebook in the Pedalboards Of Doom group....and i run into the guy who owns Bluesman 🤷♂️🤣. I linked your video on his post about the 26 Klons he is about to have for sale 🤣🤯🤣. Anyway.....GUESS WHAT?!? He said he is in communication with Alicia about a new signature model!
Oh no way!!!
@@GetOffset really!
Super crazy coincidence 🤣
I’d love to see either an Alex Brandy out of Julie Musicmaster bass or a Beabadoobee (affordable) Squier of some kind; either a Jazzmaster, Mustang or Lead II.
The people I teach love Bea (and so do I tbf) so I think it would definitely encourage a lot of younger girls to pick up music
And Alex Brandy just cuz I love Musicmasters
Not a women but I also always thought it was a crime that we never got a Rowland S. Howard 70s Jaguar signature model
I hadn't heard of Julie--I'll check them out!
Beabadoobee is a great pick. I think she was a Fender Next artist.
Don’t forget about Reverend Guitars! I believe they have four female signature guitars.
PJ Harvey Firebird?
Pamela Birch Liverbirds Gretsch
Fender made a Shawn Mendes (I think that's right I don't who he is) signature duosonic
I believe it was a Musicmaster: sweetwater.sjv.io/MendesMusicmaster
@@GetOffset I think it threw me off having two pickups, same body for both guitars
I have 1961 music master I restored and 1965 music master 2 , which is the mustang body but one pickup no whammy, and I have a music master bass from the 70s I love the musicmaster and duo sonics I completely agree with you about those suggestions for signature models, also this is a great channel you have going you are doing an excellent job
Thank you ☺️
Yeah, they're very similar!
While I agree with you in essence… I kinda wish they would stop making signature guitars entirely. I don’t really want to play someone else’s guitar.
Sulynn Hago SG
I've always thought Brody Dalle deserved a sig, and Traci Chapman definitely deserves one. I suppose ultimately these companies are businesses and have to weigh up production costs against projected profits. Typically female guitarist don't get anywhere near the exposure males do, although hopefully the fact the gretsch sold out will encourage other companies to rethink things.
El Kempner of Palehound.
Joan Jett has a few models
Kim deal LP? strat? P bass?
Kim Deal Seagull.
Did she forget Bilinda Butcher?
*looks sadly at my danelectro 12 string*
I have a Dano bass, I get it.
Oh crap I closed the live chat by accident
You found your way back, though!
Joan Jett Melody Maker anyone?🤔
This exists! They made them in the mid-to-late 2000s: tidd.ly/48wfdPB
It's so sick
@@GetOffset
I know! I have a Schecter S-1 Elite and I nearly bought a black Joan Jett model about 10 years ago but the Schecter does it just as well overall.
I really like the new white one. I just had to give a shout out for that model.
Also Liz Phair played the hell out of Fender short scale guitars too.😉👍✨
And Screaming Females is no more, unfortunately.
This is tragic :(
