fellow Detroit fan here! Go Tigers...and Wings! I definitely would not recommend using the leg as a walking stick. It is not nearly sturdy enough for that purpose.
For under $140, you will not find a better, lighter and sturdier tripod anywhere. K&F makes great products and the design where this tripod is 16 inches and less than 3 pounds puts it over the top. The twist turn locks on the legs are 1,000 times better than an aluminum snap lock ones. Once you get used to the twist turn locks, you will never go back to a snap lock leg ever again.
Compared to my manfrotto: less solid but very light, so when I am hiking I prefer the K&F and if you use an L bracket, Manfrotto doesnt fit: not standard.
I actually got a Manfrotto Be Free as well. It's so much heavier, and a small piece broke off in shipping... I glued it back on, and I'll be doing a video on it shortly. We'll see which one lasts in the long run.
I found it quite easy to pan with my GH6 with is pretty light-weight. These tripods are really geared more towards photography, but I've definitely used mine for video, because of how versatile it is.

That's probably a good idea. I really didn't put my "walking stick" under any strenuous use hiking in Ireland & Scotland.

100% I will never go back to snaps/clamps.

Have a recc for one that also does top down shots?
You can actually do that with this tripod! You can either rotate the legs up and over, OR you can flip the center support.

Can you add a pan handle to this? If not, is it easy to pan a lightweight camera body and lens?
