Mate I can’t thank you enough for taking the time to share your build. I want to build one myself and have been looking for a while now for something like this but have found nothing like your first episode let alone a twenty part series. It’s a credit to you. Magnificent.
Guessing around 1500kgs. Love the whole design, must be very satisfying completing a project like that. Certainly won't run out of power, we run 1000w & 400Ah and run a 2kw Daikin inverter AC on top of induction cooking, 240v HWS, 240v kettle, 12V 250L inverter fridge. So I think you'll be right! ;)
Congrats mate - you nailed the competition, it was exactly 1500kg on the knocker. Do you have Instagram? Go follow me over there if you’ve not already and DM me your address and I’ll get couplemate to send out the prize. my insta is @perpetual.transient
G'day Mate, found your channel by pure luck and love the idea, build and most of all the time you put in recording the videos. I am going to build one myself, was looking at a squaredrop, but with the ideas I wanted to fit on my project the smaller trailer wasn't going to cut it. Saw your first video a few days ago and decided a van your size roughly would be right for me. I subscrided, gave you the 👍🏻, now I'm going through the rest of your videos to put pen to paper. It inspiring your work shall keep watching the rest of the videos and the channel for updates and more projects. Again well done. 👍🏻👍🏻
Can't wait to see the progression. I'm thinking about building my own hybrid too but I'll be going a dual axle and aiming for a 1800kg tare with an atm of 3t. I reckon yours will be sitting around the 1355kg mark.
1555kg what an awesome build, it would take me half my adult life to get something like that done. What keeps your storage crates in place to stop them sliding out? Cant wait to view this series.
Thanks mate. There’s magnets at the rear of them, but i reckon they won’t be strong enough when fully loaded and i slam the brakes on! May have to put some clips on front.
Great work. Look forward to watching the rest. Just a heads up with something I read about the Multiplus victron. It apparently needs good ventilation above the unit for heat to escape and in the vid it looks fairly close. Perhaps look int this if you like
Thanks mate. Yeh good pick up. They spec 100mm clearance, I’ve got about 85mm but reckon it’ll be ok given all the space in front and beside. Will only be switched on during induction cooking and microwave, so short stints too. I’ll keep an eye on it.
Impressive build. What was the material for the sides and roof. Like the Tough Ride suspension and will build something similar for my project cuzz like Australia we have a lot of rough back country roads/trails in the U.S. and then there is Canada, Mexico, and Alaska. I also won't have propane, but will have a small marine wood stove cuzz I will boondock in the winter. Thanks for the post, will follow up with the build.
Thanks. It’s called fibreglass composite panel, 28mm thick. Most of the vans in Australia have now moved to it for construction now. Good insulator, light and strong
I reckon it's about 1450kgs. It's an ideal compact build and all you need really. You'll probably find you will only fill the one 140L tank most of the time which saves dragging the weight and having another 140kgs floating around back there.
Good luck mate. Yeh it’s going to be an interesting first few trips working all that out. Nice to have the capacity but you’re probably right, i will rarely need it.
Just found your build series - really awesome and will be binge watching over the next few days!! Can I ask what brand are your plastic crates/draws? I have been looking and haven't seen those yet.
Thanks mate - it’s a company in mordialloc - plasticstorage.com.au. Not cheap but got a big range and Aussie owned (tried to use Aussie small companies where i could)
@@PerpetualTransient WOW. Thats lighter than I would guess. So what about the body/shell/carcass? I would have thought 250kg so without fitout you'd be at under 800kg. If interested, do another on build series doing a rough breakdown on weight. Surprising that a tonne of weight for chassis and fitout.
@@unitedstates3068 Total weight was 1500kg. There’s about 400kg of walls and floor. Extra spare wheel, mattress, awning, Victron gear, battery all starts to add up. I knew it’d be critical to get to floor level as light as possible. I had calculated through my design that I’d land at 1516kg. Couldn’t believe it actually landed almost right on it.
Only about 5mm mate as the hinge sits forward of the rear extremity by like 20mm. I even have those little black cupboard door handles obstructing and it still stays up vertical
Nice first episode mate, looking forward to the next 20 of them. I agree with your philosophy of not wanting to tow an anchor around, it is something that most manufacturers don't do enough to reduce the weight of their products. I think your tare will be quite good and guess about 1285kg. Also, did you consider an aluminium chassis at any stage?
Thanks mate. Good luck. Nah never really thought of ally. Never really worked with it before, so stuck with steel. It tows beautifully. See how goes fully loaded.
@@PerpetualTransient Fair enough, stick with what you've comfortable with. I'm keen to do a hybrid soon and my boat trailer (2.8t) is alloy that is all bolted together. Been wondering if the same could be adapted to a van chassis, particularly given the strength of a full composite body.
Great video. I'm really looking forward to the rest of the series. I've been looking at hybrids for a while and haven't found anything quite right so was thinking of building one. Will you go through the registration process and what you needed to satisfy? My guess is 1605kg tare.
Thanks billy. My appointment for rego is literally in the next hour, so fingers crossed. I haven’t gone in to much detail on the rego side of things because rules are so state based and the audience of the channel is global, so not relevant to many.
well done mate. 1575kgs is my bet. why the toolbox so close to the front wall, can you remove if you need to clean behind or clear out any mud or crap caught there.
Thanks mate. Yeh it was a late decision. I actually got my brothers parkes 15 and measured the gap. Really wasn’t sure what to do there. It’s an easy move, just a couple U bolts, 5 min job. I’m putting Jerry holders on too, so will decide final position when i fit those.
