    Thanks for sharing this build. I too like the square drop for the space. Your trailer was a big inspiration in building my trailer as well. I also want to build another one with the things I have learned building one. Thanks again. Great trailer!

    I thoroughly enjoyed following your camper build. I’m hoping to build my own eventually and after watching 100’s of these builds on UA-cam, yours is still the most detailed in terms of explaining how to do it and your decision making processes. This latest video just adds to that knowledge base for people like myself considering a build of their own. Well done and thanks for putting the time and effort into producing these videos.

    Thanks Darryl, I’ll second letting the width of available cladding materials determine the width of the camper. I’ve done mine at 1550 wide and found out later the supplier where I sourced sheets for the roof is 1500km’s away in Victoria 😕.

    Thank you for a straight forward explanation that was at no point boring!
    I've watched so many videos because I want to make one of these trailers. Most are not very informative for a complete newbie and very good at putting me to sleep.
    Off to check out your other videos.

    I wish I had this video 18 months ago. Alot of the info in this video I had to stumble across as I was building mine. Another consideration that I put into it was weight distribution for battery / fridge and made the draw Bar longer to allow for toolbox on the front.
    Width is a funny one, i went for 1500mm wide (as that's what width the fibreglass comes in ) but was still able to squeeze a queen foam mattress inside (was 1470 internal and queen mattress is 1530).
    Great content as always Darryl. I think most builders think back to what they'd do different on another build, is that the case with the idea of a second build ?

    Great video, Thanks! I planned to 'like and go' but got involved with your info and made it to the end! Presently making my 1st camper from a 4x6 cargo trailer. (1.1mx2m?) and it doubles as a toy hauler for my People S200.

      @@DarrylSheather I have a couple of questions please:
      1) You have mentioned "plastic material in various widths" can you point me to a supplier and the name of the material?
      2) I'm keeping costs down if possible without compromising structural integrity. I'm thinking 18mm marine ply for the basic/interior wall, varnished inside, with an external cladding e.g. aluminium. I see videos where people add another 18 mm or less for their interior wall. Is this additional layer necessary ??

    The balance of cabin length and kitchen depth was one of the biggest issues for my squaredrop because I wanted a 40-50L fridge in the kitchen, a 500mm deep kitchen bench and a queen length mattress, all the while sticking to one-piece 2440mm plywood wall panels for more rigidity. It's tricky but possible with a notched bulkhead panel but it limits my choice of fridge.
    A few tips I picked up along the way are to put your door where your feet will go so you don't have to do a 180 every time you get in or out, put your door low enough or get a thick enough mattress so you don't drag your legs across the doorframe when you get in and out, to plan a step into the design if your partner is 5ft on a tall day 😁, to put the roof vent anywhere except above your head (for rain splashing in and sunlight) and while not really build-related, to have a curtain covering the door for some privacy.

    Gday Darryl, what made you choose ply over a metal (aluminum or steel) frame? Cheers mate, love the vids!

    • @DarrylSheather
      @DarrylSheather  11 місяців тому

      Ply is traditionally how these have been made, if you look at manufacturers both locally and in the USA they still are. It's quick, fairly easy, insulated and if you use a good quality waterproof ply you get a furniture finish internal lining. Clad the outside and they'll last forever. Both steel (too heavy) and aluminium (cost?) framing require external and internal lining with insulation. Personally, I'd go full glued together composite panel with some timber highlights internally to add warmth and take away some of the sleeping in an esky feeling, or how I've built mine.

    • @DarrylSheather
      @DarrylSheather  11 місяців тому +1

      It's the same composite aluminium material as the sides. It's scored on the back to bend, in the build videos it's shown.

    That "cut back! at the back end of the trailer isn't for aesthetics. It's about departure angles. If you are off-roading, sooner or later you'll be crossing gullies, dry river beds, or the like. A square overhang behind the wheels will hang up on an obstacle very readily, and either damage the trailer or cause you to have to recover the trailer (or both). I personally disagree with you about matching that angle at the front..........you can match the angle but have a different size chunk cut off the top front edge, you can mimic the rear, or you could have a square. The latter gives you the aerodynamics of a brick, but lots of people do it.
