  • Can I make it up as I go along? Can you? Of course! We all can and have fun as we do. This is the Ad Hoc cane, and I had no idea at the start how it was going to turn out. All you have to do is sit back, relax, and watch as I show and talk you through the process. Then create some lovely pieces of your own.
Let me know any designs you’d like me to have a go at, and I’ll see what I can do, just add a comment below.

Polymer Clay is oven baked, always follow the manufacturer’s instructions for the brand of clay you are using. The amounts and colours of clay I use are listed within the video itself, I used FIMO Soft, but all recognised brands of polymer clay will work well for this project.
I used a Pasta Machine dedicated to Polymer Clay use to create blends/thin sheets and condition the clay. My Pasta Machine is an Atlas 180, and it has setting 0 as its thickest and 9 as its thinnest. There is a standard way of calculating the thickness of clay required, by using stacked playing cards. On my machine the thickness are as follows: Setting 0 = 8 playing cards, setting 1 = 7, setting 2 = 6, setting 3 = 5, setting 4 = 4, setting 5 = 3, setting 6 and 7 = 2, setting 8 and 9 = 1 card.
I hope you enjoyed the video, and have fun with these techniques. Thank you so much for watching, and a special thank you to those of you who subscribe, I really appreciate it.

This was fun! It's fun to not always know what the outcome will be when creating. You aren't the only one that has a problem trying to arrange things in a random way!

Thanks so much, and I'm glad it's not just me with the random thing - why is it soooo hard to do 😉😂🙂

Thank you for sharing your creative gifts. I have turned to your videos often for inspiration but this particular video is so refreshing and simple and realistic. It’s easy to become overwhelmed and frustrated when trying to follow a more tenured artist in the various videos out there but this approach here is much more realistic. Very much appreciated!

Wonderful video as always! What projects can you do with the veneers other than bowls? I'd love to see a video with that.

Thanks so much, a couple of videos ago I used one as a wall plaque/art piece. You can also use them to cover journals with, I made some homemade notebooks with some, again a few videos ago, so whatever you want really. And of course you can cut into them to make any amounts of jewellery, or use them to cover cutlery handles, crochet hooks, the list is endless. I hope that helps ? I only did this one as a veneer so people could see how the whole pattern came out 🙂

Unfortunately the thumbnail is very reminiscent of the fake crafting videos that content farms pump out. I almost didn't watch but am glad I did because I enjoy watching you come up with a cane as you go along without having it all figured out first.

Thanks for the feedback, it is so difficult to know what to add into the thumbnail, and my videos are getting so few views I was thinking of having to stop, as it's not financially worth doing them. This was an attempt to get people who don't yet know/follow me to try a view and see what I can do. I have a slightly better one planned for next time, fingers crossed, but I need to figure out how to reach a bigger audience, and the thumbnail attracts/or repels and is so important in getting your video seen. I am very open to any useful suggestions. I am so glad you did watch, and liked it, so thank you 😉🙃🙂
