    Hi sir,
Your classes are amazing, and I am learning great by them. Could you guide me if I should choose Red Hat Certified System Administrator v9 or Red Hat Certified System Administrator v8 Exam?
    Does it make any difference.

Just now i have tested both ways, removing "rhgb quiet" from end of the 4th line is optional. Thanks.

    Hello Nehra Classes,
Question: Is it necessary to remove the 'rhgb quiet' ? If we add rd.break at the end of the cmdline, and proceed with Ctrl + x, it still works right?
And on the RHCSA v9 exam, if we 'init 6' the system, do we get the grub menu by default? I tried on the test machine, and F8 did not work sadly :( (not sure if I did it wrong)
Looking forward for your advice and answers

      ### **1. Removing `rhgb quiet` and Using `rd.break`**
      - **`rhgb` and `quiet`:**
      - `rhgb` stands for Red Hat Graphical Boot, which provides a graphical boot screen instead of text messages.
      - `quiet` suppresses most of the boot messages and reduces console output.
      - **Using `rd.break`:**
      - Adding `rd.break` to the kernel command line tells the system to break into an emergency shell during the boot process. This is useful for troubleshooting and making changes before the system fully boots.
      - **Effectiveness:**
      - **With `rhgb quiet`:** If you add `rd.break` at the end of the kernel command line and proceed with booting, you should still be able to enter the emergency shell. The `rhgb quiet` options are mainly for controlling the boot appearance and verbosity and should not affect the functionality of `rd.break`.
      - **Without `rhgb quiet`:** Removing these options will give you more verbose boot messages, which can be helpful for troubleshooting. It does not impact the use of `rd.break`.
      ### **2. GRUB Menu Access and `init 6`**
      - **GRUB Menu:**
      - The GRUB menu is generally accessed by pressing a key during the boot process, often `Esc`, `Shift`, or `F8`, depending on the system configuration and GRUB version.
      - **Using `init 6`:**
      - The `init 6` command is used to reboot the system. It typically performs a clean shutdown and restart, but it does not directly affect the visibility of the GRUB menu.
      - On some systems, the GRUB menu might not appear if the system boots too quickly or if GRUB is configured to hide the menu by default.
      - **Exam Context:**
      - During the RHCSA v9 exam or similar environments, if `F8` did not work, try the following:
      - **Check Documentation:** Ensure you are using the correct key for your specific environment or exam setup.
      - **Try Other Keys:** Use `Esc`, `Shift`, or `Ctrl+Esc` to access the GRUB menu.
      - **Timing:** Ensure you press the key at the right moment during the boot process, right after the system starts but before the OS begins to load.
      ### **Summary:**
      - **Removing `rhgb quiet`** is not strictly necessary to use `rd.break`, but doing so provides more detailed boot messages, which might be helpful for troubleshooting.
      - **`init 6`** reboots the system but does not directly affect GRUB menu visibility. If you are having trouble accessing the GRUB menu, try different keys and be mindful of the timing during the boot process.
If you need to perform specific tasks on the RHCSA exam, such as accessing GRUB or using `rd.break`, make sure to familiarize yourself with the key sequences and commands in advance.

Sirji nice session for rhel 9 resetting root password.
init=/bin/bash is a universal method for all flavour distro(only password reset method for debian ubuntu type/based n Suse linux, no rd. break n not understood by dis distro kernel. In old days sysvinit, upstart init days there were also entry of sulogin in /etc/inittab which ask invoke root password in single n emergency mode in this debian ubuntu type n suse linux n entry of sulogin wasn't there in /etc/inittab by default n asking root password not happened in rhel, fedora, centos single user mode. Check man bootparams, man boot)
root file system(installed linux partition)is mounted as / by kernel n start /bin/bash as init instead of /sbin/init(normal init) n no /sysroot (where root partition was mounted temporary as /sysroot in rd.break methods) found n so chroot not required.
    mount -o remount, rw /
Up to here sir ji u have tried n about to reset root password n then stopped.
    Next info u try it.
chroot n passwd may not found in shell PATH. If passwd command is found in PATH then it is ok
we need to change /etc/shadow or /etc/passwd by passwd/vi / sed commands by giving d full path like /usr/bin/passwd, /usr/bin/vi, /usr/bin/sed
    Then
    touch /.autorelabel
    mount -o remount, ro /
exec /sbin/init (first time starting init from shell like kernel starts d init after mounting / in normal boot).
I don't have rhel9 iso but init=/bin/bash method should work n must have to work (about to work sirji when u tried in this video)
    For kind info

Yes it works but SELinux needs to be restored.

    • @uttamkumarkumar3171
      @uttamkumarkumar3171 2 роки тому

      After changing d password
      touch /.autorelabel
      mount -o remount,ro /
Then reboot d machine (instead of exec /sbin/init)
