It's not about politics; it's about decency and morality. Crime is down and the data proves it. The feds just lowered the rate. The economy is not down. The Dow just hit an all-time high. You're living in a fantasy world.
Twitter didn’t blow up in his face though. The value of the company is far from the whole story. Elon preserved freedom of speech and that’s priceless. Not to mention the secondary effects of his improved influence and the economic benefits of open discourse. For example, Elon may well get an important position as overseer of Trumps department of government efficiency. Which will undoubtedly help Elon’s other companies. It’s more complicated in the short term and then there’s the long term. Elon will prevail as always.
Lol the picture you are painting is not one from a very bised standpoint. Trump is the last person who should be president, especially since he still doesn’t believe he lost the 2020 election… wake up kid
Twitter is probably not profitable, but I doubt that is unexpected to Elon. Elon bought Twitter for other reasons. Elon is worth about 200 billion, and probably be worth more in future. 40 billion isn't the end world for mElon.
Who's gonna tell you it wasn't free speech either? Oh me, I'll tell you. Elon had neither profit nor anything noble or virtuous in mind when buying Twitter. It was his ego. He has accomplished little with the platform and lost billions. His ego did that. Whether he cares or not doesn't change how dumb it was.
The point was about ego, which I think is accurate why Elon bought twitter. If I recall correctly (1) social media was easier than engineering, (2) he criticized how they handled social media censorship, (3) his screwed over employees and investors by claiming he would/would not buy the company
@christophermyslicki3526 I mean he says that, but it's pretty clear has an ego problem. He calls people names on Twitter and is addicted to the platform in a pretty unhealthy way. He's an exceptional engineer and an obvious visionary. He's also a brittle manchild and a troll. He's not hard to understand. Classic case of ego destroying.
Who is gonna tell you Elon didn't want to buy it at all, but was forced to because he was being a complete idiot with the legal proceedings? Me, I guess
He is assuming that he knows why elon did buy twitter, nor does he know what Elon will do with it. I am sure Elon knows more about what he is doing than anyone. Forming an assumption is egotistical.
My guy, you have basically no idea what the process of Musk pursuing and ultimately purchasing Twitter was really like, or the details of any conversations leading up to it. To simply write it off as "ego" makes it seem like you just have a personal vendetta against the man. FYI Elon has made it explicit that his primary goal in purchasing Twitter was not about business. Seems like you haven't been paying attention. I'm not defending him or claiming that it was a smart idea. Just pointing out the fact that you seem to be making some very opinionated claims based on faulty assumptions and limited information.
The idea that anyone could watch your videos, filled with clips about yourself posing speaking or writing, and conclude that you aren’t just a very particular kind of egoist is amazing.
Oh my god i seriously can't believe how young conservatives are so easily brainwashed today. Musk didn't restore free speech, he scammed you out of $12 a month. Nothing you can say on x you couldn't say on a million other platforms already. He just used his fanbois like trump uses his magas...golden sneakers with EL on th left and ON on the right anyone?

I think Ryan is missing the real point to why Elon bought Twitter and maybe what fundamentally motivates Elon. The purchase wasn’t to monetize it, but to wrestle it from the hands of the government and liberal billionaires who do not share his belief that freedom of speech is fundamental to democracy. His only risk was whether or not it would change the conversation about politics to an honest one. Seems successful so far. Maybe Ryan’s vision for the world isn’t as pure as he claims it to be.
Elon’s not strengthening free speech. He’s silencing critics and elevating the right wing. If he believed in democracy, he would not be supporting Donald Trump, who’s sole mission is to regain the presidency and never leave office.
100% agree. How could Ryan not see the whole picture? Could ego have been a detrimental ingredient and the overall transaction of buying Twitter? Sure. But so was saving free speech at huge monetary risk. It's not black and white or a single factor. What's the deal with this guy lately?
ego is a person’s sense of self, identity, or individuality. It represents how someone perceives themselves and their importance. Everyone has it and there is nothing wrong with it.
Brainlet Ryan: "Musk's ego-driven actions cost him 40 billion dollars." Musk: "I spent 40 billion on this, precisely because I DON'T have an ego or a material attachment."
Elon himself said there was no chance for Tesla and SpaceX to succeed. I’m not sure if those decisions were based on ego. He was thinking about electric cars and space all the time.
I don’t think his point was those decision were Ego, I think his point was Elons success with those decisions despite others saying it was a bad idea, lead to his ego based decisions later on. Limiting Elons capacity to properly judge the difference between valid and good criticism, and haters.
Elon wanted to go into the space industry because he saw the opportunity for money, AND would like to put a civilization on Mars because life is delicate and should be "backed up" on another planet. When he bought Twitter he saw an opportunity for money AND would like to take a stand for free speech. Tesla was an opportunity for money AND to save the Earth from fossil fuels. Elon "stoicly" does the difficult things without regard for failure. This isn't ego. Elon never said I'm going to do this in spite of what people say. He does these things and knows that failure is the most likely outcome. He's said this many, many times. But he still does these things because they're the right things to do for humanity and the world. Give up your woke Democratic news and open your eyes Ryan. And stop pretending that Elon's actions aren't the very picture of stoicism.
You are one of the few people I've seen who understands Elon is not motivated in the same way as the average billionaire. Most people I know think he has some insatiable thirst for money. Watching and really listening to interviews before he bought Twitter will reveal he knew it was a losing proposition but it needed done.
oh so was it hubris AND stoicism that leads him to repost fake news on twitter? how about harassing taylor swift because she has different political views? your inability to comprehend nuance goes against the very concept of stoic teachings. no man is infallible, but elon musk has fallen far from excusable human flaw.
@@dflamm210I think it's ironic that you bring up nuance. Because if you look at the big picture instead of a few posts on X then a person that understands nuance would agree with me in spite of a few little things. Nobody is claiming that he's perfect. But on a related note: for Swift to back Walz in her endorsement of Kamala was pretty incredible seeing as how some of her 13 year old fans will be ushered off for sex reassignment due to some of his legislative work. What an absolute shame to let a 13 year old decide something so permanently impactful. And it's very irresponsible for Taylor to not consider this in her endorsement.
Ryan, I love you bro, and the message that you sent out. However, Stoicism falls short because it is of human origin. You have to be careful when you take the word of God and try to apply it to human standards. What David had was faith not confidence. His confidence comes from his faith. The story is a story of faith in God and what God could do through David. That’s the source of our confidence. Rock on brother.
Exactly what I was thinking. David said: “You are coming against me with a sword and spear and javelin, but I am coming against you in the name of Jehovah.. this very day Jehovah will surrender you into my hand” So he didn’t rely on his own wisdom and strategy or strength etc. but his God.
In connecting abstract thinking to real individuals this Chanel is treading a dangerous path towards politicising a noble philosophy. Keep it abstract Ryan and keep your political motivations personal. If you don’t, you will destroy much that you have worked so hard to build
He is obviously a weak liberal. The stoics who he seems to revere would never accept this guy. You think, for instance, they would accept abortion? Not only that, but the man has no say in the matter? His idol, Marcus would throw him in prison to rot 😂
I think the only reason you wrote this is because you have been offended, which comes from the ego. The reason why this channel exists and is successful, is because the world needs philosophies like stoicism right now. The reason the world needs it, is because our culture has been going in the opposite direction of greed, narcissism, and hedonism for a long time. And when the most powerful people in our society perfectly represent those moral failings, it makes sense for a stoic channel like this to point it out directly.
I'm not sure why Elon's Twitter buyout is considered a bad ego decision. It was the most unselfish thing any human has done in years. And also clickbaiting thumbnail specifically about that.

It is said that ego kills talent, so Musk and others like him have next no ego as their talents back him up. Musk is a prime example here. However, X is not an investment to musk. It's a cup of coffee to him. Musk makes anywhere from $39.4 million to $354 million per day and right now he is at the top of his game. It is said that X is losing $1.92 million a day. It's a cup of coffee to him. And that is amazing to me. It takes A LOT of talent to be able to pull that one off.
I applaud your courage, knowing full well that half of your audience is likely composed by "Hustle Grind-set" bros and professional self-motivators who gladly swallow each and every stupidity that Musk says as if it was new gospel.
I dont think someone running on ego would be able to face all the failures Elon has and risk everything to achieve his success. Writing books about stoicism is much more done from an ivory tower - there's not much personal risk. Elon is following his own vision not paying lip service to deep thinkers of the past while feigning moral superiority.
Ego is the idea or opinion that you have of yourself, esp. the level of your ability and intelligence, and your importance as a person: nothing wrong with that.
Ego is the part of us that uses self-justification. It stops us growing and changing, because it already feels we're as good as we're every going to be. It ignores criticism from any external source. It's the enemy we carry inside us constantly. It makes us hide when we should fight. It justifies bad decisions. It tries to preserve us, but the cost of preservation can be too high.
Elon didn’t build the capsule his workers did. Why only credit Elon? He just owns the company, but I’m sure the engineers are the ones doing the real work, the ones who don’t cling to the spotlight. You want to be like Elon, that is why you made your comment. Your ego has betrayed you. I make this comment because I enjoy playing the hero and ego checking people, my ego has betrayed me. This is perhaps the first time I have ever come across any of Ryan Holiday works, speaking engagements, etc. where he fails and fails rather obnoxiously. Get rid of it in favor of being humble” that says a lot more about the person who thinks they’ve been degraded than it does the person telling them to lose the ego. Stoics have historically stood against those in power and rich egotistic maniacs. Just look at Seneca and Nero-Nero is introduced as an egomaniac when you read about him. Cato even fought a civil war against Julius Caesar. Seneca was forced to commit suicide on Nero's orders, and Epictetus was banished by the emperor Domitian (if I remember correctly). It’s crazy how modern internet 'stoics' with small s like Andrew Tate and his trafficker Islamist fundamentalist friends are twisting this philosophy. They push egotism, materialism, and misogyny, which is the exact opposite of what real Stoicism teaches. It’s disappointing to see the Right, which I once respected, associating with these kinds of people.
@@PrinceJha-fz4cvSo they would stand against Harris, not Trump. Liberal values are incompatible with stoicism. The most obvious one being abortion. If Ryan is a leftist, he cannot be a stoic. It is not possible.
I think the point isn't about the recent failure: it's about learning the wrong lessons from success (I am great) instead of recognizing a process that will lead to growth regardless of success or failure (thinking critically about the situation and acting based on the evidence). In particular Musk had a lot of really bright people to consult with at SpaceX and Tesla that helped propel that those companies towards success, but the first thing he did when he went to Twitter was fire all of those people. He failed to recognize that his leadership needed the support of the right people, so he assumed he could get rid of them at Twitter and still succeed.

Stop with the politics it's not that we like Trump it's that we feel Biden Harris did awful with Fentanyl, the Border, Inflation and Crime. PERIOD.
It's not about politics; it's about decency and morality. Crime is down and the data proves it. The feds just lowered the rate. The economy is not down. The Dow just hit an all-time high. You're living in a fantasy world.
@irnctwst Go to Memphis and tell me crime is down. Maybe where you live in your own little self-absorbed bubble and community.
Stop with the politics while Marcus was Emperor.
It feels good to be right, doesn't it.
Lol the picture you are painting is not one from a very bised standpoint. Trump is the last person who should be president, especially since he still doesn’t believe he lost the 2020 election… wake up kid
Agreed. Elon made a moral choice, not a egoic choice.
Think you missed his point. But instead, felt the need to stoke your personal view. Wow.
EGO at play
Twitter is probably not profitable, but I doubt that is unexpected to Elon. Elon bought Twitter for other reasons. Elon is worth about 200 billion, and probably be worth more in future. 40 billion isn't the end world for mElon.
I’m invincible because I’ll always rise again like a zombie bursting from its grave
People at work “I know everything” if you did you wouldn’t be here! You be off somewhere making more money somewhere else!
Who's gonna tell him that the last thing Elon was thinking about when purchasing Twitter was to turn a profit?
When you try to make something you ask your self WHY this can happen. If you can answer the WHY using fundamentals it is a plan not EGO
Could we have the Daily Stoic Store available in the UK?
What about a Daily Stoic store in New Zealand?
My guy, you have basically no idea what the process of Musk pursuing and ultimately purchasing Twitter was really like, or the details of any conversations leading up to it. To simply write it off as "ego" makes it seem like you just have a personal vendetta against the man. FYI Elon has made it explicit that his primary goal in purchasing Twitter was not about business. Seems like you haven't been paying attention. I'm not defending him or claiming that it was a smart idea. Just pointing out the fact that you seem to be making some very opinionated claims based on faulty assumptions and limited information.
Yeah I think this is a politically loaded topic. He would have been better off taking some ambitious project that actually failed
Purchasing Twitter was all about business. And ego. And power. And controlling the "free speach". And making friends with powerful people. And so on.
What can you do? Ryan is obviously a weak liberal. He is clearly no stoic. Stoicism is incompatible with liberal values, like abortion.
The idea that anyone could watch your videos, filled with clips about yourself posing speaking or writing, and conclude that you aren’t just a very particular kind of egoist is amazing.
Very lucky and in-gauged
I have literally never had the voice that says I'm a genius. Pros of being a failure I guess?
Ego is the Enemy part 2? That's a good idea!

"$44 Billion was not the cost of Twitter
It was the cost of restoring Free Speech"
Wonderful response.
Oh my god i seriously can't believe how young conservatives are so easily brainwashed today. Musk didn't restore free speech, he scammed you out of $12 a month. Is that why he blocks or suspends accounts that criticize him? BS. it's a propaganda machine. Nothing more.

And yet he blocks people every day who disagree with him or use their "free" speech
Nothing screams “vote Kamala” harder than Ryan’s recent videos

This should surprise absolutely no one. I trust Ryan's judgement when it comes to character.

Ego is bad, but codepenecy is worse. Codepenecy is more of home wrecker than alcoholism it is.
I like what Ryan has done to further stoicism but he should leave his left-leaning politics out of it.
😂😂😂 Twitter. The place to find honest, level headed discourse
Elon’s not strengthening free speech. He’s silencing critics and elevating the right wing. If he believed in democracy, he would not be supporting Donald Trump, who’s sole mission is to regain the presidency and never leave office.
@@hv2623What’s so funny? How do you know you’re not being Goliath here laughing at David?

Brainlet Ryan: "Musk's ego-driven actions cost him 40 billion dollars."
Musk: "I spent 40 billion on this, precisely because I DON'T have an ego or a material attachment."
Sup all
Elon himself said there was no chance for Tesla and SpaceX to succeed.
Wow, great informations! Really helpful, thanks a lot, love your videos.

The Elon fangirl stans coming in full swing 😂
So was Twitter a good buy? He should have listened his friends

Therefore it would be valuable to take high doses of psychedelics to undergo ego-death, perhaps even on a regular basis?

What?
Yes it would.
This guy is no Christian and no Stoic.
In connecting abstract thinking to real individuals this Chanel is treading a dangerous path towards politicising a noble philosophy. Keep it abstract Ryan and keep your political motivations personal. If you don’t, you will destroy much that you have worked so hard to build
Agreed.
“I was fine with being a Stoic when we were only talking in the abstract, but now that the Stoics are going after Nero I just can’t support them”
I'm not sure why Elon's Twitter buyout is considered a bad ego decision.

If it’s degrading to say “hey your ego is bad. Get rid of it in favor of being humble” that says a lot more about the person who thinks they’ve been degraded than it does the person telling them to lose the ego.
If you’re referring to another video than why not comment there. Additionally, the Stoics believe it’s best to help a person of a different political persuasion to understand the error of his ways (if such an error does exist).
