East TN is famous for the lack of hazardous weather, floods and earthquakes. We do however have occasional hail storms. My wife and I have lived in the same home since 1986 or 37 years. We had one claim for wind damage during that period in 1993. It did not damage the roof, but it blew over one tree and broke limbs out of 17 other trees and one window was broken by a limb. We live in Hamblen County in the middle of the East Tennessee Valley. Our homeowners insurance is very reasonable at $380,000 coverage with a $500 deductible for a $860 annual premium.

Thanks for the info. We are thinking of moving to east Tennessee. Our daughter and husband just moved last June and we just can't find anything yet for two retired people

You won’t regret it, hardest thing is finding a place. If your in he half million range for a home, not a problem. If your in 250k below, some fix up work required. If your in 1.5 million range, you can buy an estate with acreage. I would avoid some of these old folk communities that have HOAs, unless you want that type of stuff. Difficult to resell. Saw a 2 bedroom selling for 25k, but community membership is like 10k and HOA fee of 350 a month. You can find them on Zillow. One of them called Upland Village, those houses on the market for like a year or more. People, live there till they die, difficult to resell though.

Tennessee has the most tornadoes that occur overnight, which is the scariest part. You can’t see it happening. Most Tennesseans take the tornado risk in stride. From March until May, you may have a tornado watch every week, but what comes before is a day or two of perfect, unseasonably warm weather.

I feel safe there. A good place to look online is crimegrade.org. It'll give you a map of the area & show their grades on crime. It varies quite a bit.

JC might get windy, haven’t seen tornado yet. If you want to know how tornadoes form, look at the jet stream. Look at the geography, if it is flat, hilly or mountains. Tornadoes don’t form well in hilly or mountainous regions. You need a high and low pressure system to meet to form that funnel. Mountains and hills redirects the jet streams. You don’t have to believe me, ask any meteorology expert. With climate change and Polar North shifting, Pole shift, all sorts of new issues happening with the jet stream. 3 climate weather zones, west middle and eastern. Eastern is 4 seasons. Fall colors are beautiful mix of green, red, yellow, orange. This last winter we caught lots of rain but didn’t get hit with as much snow, got cold and lite snow for a few days off and on. Dangerous to drive, lots of hilly and curvy roads, black ice. Other people get tornadoes, we get pleasant breezes or rainstorms. It’s somewhat mild weather in JC. My pipes did freeze for a few days, they only salt the main roads. If it gets cold and your snowed in, be prepared to stay home for a few days. Not like NY. Talking about a few inches.

The US population has doubled since I was born in 1960 . I can't think of a single instance in how this has improved the country outside of more food truck options😂. The social problems are worse... The schools are worse .. The traffic is worse and the politicians are FAR worse. Yet ..it seems people can't make the connection and keep voting for more people while expecting improvements in their lifestyle.I think they refer to this phenomenon as "cognitive dissonance".
