  • Jayden Bier, a 17-year-old junior, would have been in one of the classrooms that was shot up except for a teacher who innocently redirected her elsewhere to resume taking a test before the shooting began, she recalls in the video above. “All of a sudden I hear someone say, ‘Run for your life, code red.’ I just freeze, and my friend says, ‘Jayden, grab my hand and don’t let go of it,’ ” she says. “There were people screaming everywhere, ‘Let me in!’ People banging on doors, and my teacher actually let six people in the classroom. … I went into the closet with my friend and we were just still holding hands. We were both crying and people were telling us, ‘Why are you guys crying? This is fake,’ and I knew it wasn’t.”

In the days and weeks afterward, as students and families grieved and returned to class, many of the teens who attend the Parkland, Florida, high school have been speaking out about their experiences and demanding there be changes in gun safety legislation so that something like this can never happen again.

When you’re at school and you see your friends run in and say there’s an active shooter, you laugh. This is Southern California but this kind of thing doesn’t happen in your part of SoCal.
It’s not until you hear the kind woman at the front desk go on the intercom and say, “This is not a drill, active shooter alert.” That’s when the lights go off and tables are flipped as protection.
You feel your heart stop when your teacher tells you “Call your families and tell them you love them.” You start crying as you call your mom up to let her know what’s going on. You text your closest friends and family members “Active shooter, I love you.” because you lost the ability to speak coherently.
You never heard the shots fired but you hear the wailing of sirens as word gets out. Eventually, the LAPD and sheriffs’ department come on campus with dogs. You know you’re safe now but you’re still scared deep down.
As the hours go by during the lockdown and after you’re released from school, you check social media. The other high schools have gone in to lockdown. Many of them are having fun, laughing, and joking around.
Walking out, you immediately look for your mom. Once you see her, you hug her and your pug tight. Next are your friends: you hug and cry and thank God they are safe. The news swarm you all, taking pictures and asking questions. You just want to go home though, the only place that screams out safety.
The first day back is hard. You go through your first class fine but end up breaking down and panicking at your second. You desperately wait for your mom to come as friends comfort you. Their words fall on deaf ears as you relive the trauma.
For a week afterwards, you regress into a child. You lug around your beloved pink teddy you’ve had for 12 years. She kept you safe from the monsters in the dark: now she protects you from the ones in human form. People stare at you in public for doing so but you look at them with eyes that can only see that day.
Short-term PTSD: it’s what you got after the shooting. It consumes you for months afterwards. You win against it...or so you think. The residual effects still linger to this day.

Pualani Revis THANK YOU FOR SHARING THIS, STUDENTS SHOULDN'T FEAR GOING TO SCHOOL KNOWING SOMETHING TRAGIC CAN OCCUR. SOME STUDENTS FEAR AND SURVIVE TRAUMATICALLY, AND SOME STUDENTS SADLY FEAR AND DEPART TRAGICALLY. SOME STUDENTS JOKE AROUND CALLING A DRILL OR AN TRAGIC EVENT LIT, NOT KNOWING THAT EITHER THEY DEPART DEARLY OR EITHER OTHERS HAVE DEPARTED DEARLY. SOME STUDENTS ARGUE WITH THEIR FAMILIES REGARDING FAMILY ISSUES, AND KNOWING THAT IN THE END THEY CHERISH AND CARE ABOUT YOU AND HUG YOU TIGHT AFTER EXPERIENCING WHAT YOU AND YOU'RE PARENTS HAVE GONE THROUGH. THIS GENERATION IS A GENERATION THAT NEEDS SOCIETY TO LOOK AFTER THEIR OWN KIN.

Muhammad Mukhshaf you’re completely right. Highland High School was my secondary high school (I attended two high schools for academic reasons) and I had left my primary high school bc I just became too scared to attend it. Bc even our teachers told us my primary school was a target. So I became homeschooled but I still had to attend Highland. I felt safe, I never thought of it as a target. That day though, May 11, I didn’t want to go to school. Something told me not to go but I ignored my feeling bc as a senior, I literally only had days left till I walked on stage. To this day, idk if I should’ve listened to my gut....

    • @AmeliaAcres
      @AmeliaAcres 6 років тому +40

Exactly. He was acting like he didn’t just kill 17 people- because it wasn’t just him. If Nick Cruz was the shooter- he had help. There was more than one shooter. The powers that be took advantage of a troubled kid, sacrificing our children, to further an agenda. Watch “Truth Factory” video on the shooting.. watch all of the videos of the teachers who SAW the shooter geared up head to toe like SWAT, including a mask, and shooting down the hall. It is IMPOSSIBLE for Nick to have donned all that gear, massacre all those people alone, secretly ditch the gear, and then seamlessly and calmly blend with the escaping crowd. We NEED VIDEO PROOF. No one wants to see the injured- but we NEED to see Nick entering the school, wearing armor, etc. Why are they withholding that from us? There was another school shooting in Florida shortly after, only 1 child got shot - and guess what?? You can watch the entire survellience video, with audio, front to end when he surrendered. Did you know Nick plead not guilty? Did you know Nick said he was getting “instructions on his head” on what to do to carry the shooting out? Did you know the shooter before Nick, in the same county, who shot up an airport, said the exact same thing- instructions were coming into his head and he was told the only way they would stop is if he pulled off the mission?? Have you heard of voice to skull technology? It’s not a conspiracy- it’s a real technology that is being used today. Military have used it to place the “voice of Allah” into enemy soldiers brains in Afghanistan.. telling them to go a certain way.. which lead them directly toward our fire. It’s real. I wish more people would do some research.. open their eyes..

I originally started my rant misunderstanding your comment but went thru to much trouble writing it so im going to let it ride maybe someone might learn something........................I would agree with you but then we would both be wrong. You are right about the government failing the citizens. That failure is because the people allowed a unconstitutional law called "gun free zone" (through sheer ignorance )to be enacted. This law and those responsible should be jailed and are directly responsible for every life lost occurring in it. They instituted an area where a citizen is not allowed his right guaranteed to him thru our Constitution! And let me remind you...Any law going against our Constitution is no law at all! Its tyranny plain and simple. And the children march with the enemy to remove more of our freedom,

My school had a shooting threat. It was a note on the wall of the bathroom of my classroom’s building. I remember the office lady come over the intercom and tell us to go into lockdown and told teachers to check their email. Seconds after, my teacher got a call from the office and told me to go, my mom was there to pick me up. It’s not like my mom to do that, she always tells me before school if she’s picking me up. I knew this was weird. I checked my phone to see if she had texted me before hand. She had only texted me a small email the school had sent her. It said there were police on campus, and said parents are encouraged to pick their kids up. I started to panic, thinking this is it, I’m never going to see my mom or dad again. More and more people got called out, but none of else felt safe enough to leave the classroom. I got the guts to go by myself, and found that the front office was full of parents. I found my mom and almost started crying. Later I found out it was a seventh grader who wanted to get out of school so she could go shopping with her friend. She was expelled and fined. Some world we live in.

This is so scary for me because just last week there was a threat of a school shooting. This guy in my first period brought a gun on Thursday and said he would shoot up the school on Tuesday after Veterans Day. He brought a water gun on Friday to cover it up. The school addressed it as a rumor in an email. On that Tuesday the kid was arrested and no one got hurt.

All people in general should not see dead ppl, since Sandy Hook Elementary School there are too many school shootings! The fact that adults will never see their children graduate, get their diploma, get married, and have kids! some ppl are scared to go or school now, I had a lockdown drill not too long ago IT WAS A DRILL and the scary part of this is that I was in the hallway near a door where that shooter could’ve gone through. Also my classroom is right by that door, adults should not be hurting ppl, teens should not be hurting ppl,KIDS should not be hurting ppl, some ppl say that ppl 21 and up should be able to use guns, but in my opinion no-one should be able to use guns the only ppl that should be able to use guns are military ppl, polices,FBI and the ppl that know how to use it correctly!

He knew that if he does it on Valentine's Day all these people with nice healthy and generationally quilted together families that love and support each other through thick and then and how cute nicknames for each other and show up to school then make sure that they are taking their AP courses and making sure that they are getting the emotional support they need to excel etc etc..

I don’t live in America. Where I used to live in Nottingham England was near the city and due to it being so close to such a large population of potentially dangerous people we would have frequent lockdowns. One time it went on for half an hour and wine and my best friend were crying in the corner of the room because the siren was too overwhelming. Thank god it wasn’t real. But now in my new school it’s further away from a large city but there are still dangerous people in my area. I know that. Because I’ve seen them around. I’ve heard of a brawl in the area between two girls (high on ketamine) and one ended up in hospital because the other gave her bestfriend too much and she fell into a ket hole. Anyway back to the point. My school has only just put posters up around the school about having lockdowns about 5 weeks after I filed a complaint about feeling unsafe without any safety procedures because I’m so used to them it feels unsafe to not know what to do in times of such urgency. Long story short. Anything could happen. Just because a school is in a happy town and a somewhat happy community surrounds it doesn’t mean that there isn’t one or more kids that have had enough. Schools need more procedures and need to look after the wellbeing of their students. All of these shootings could be prevented. If only someone had checked in on the shooters. Maybe it would have fully changed their minds and we wouldn’t be here today.

These kids are supremely confident and shine. I think Nick was jealous of them for that. So many people mention Joachim and his big personality I can't help wondering if people like him and Peter were deliberately targeted out of jealousy? Many of the testimonials say they could not see the shooter, but of course - he could see them. He would have known about who was in what circle and which teachers were big heros. Did he shoot some of the most popular more than once to make sure they were dead out of sheer jealousy? It can do that to you. The way she says no one was surprised if so sick and so sad at the same time. Anger is hurt, but not many people see the need to reach out to angry people because they feel scared. Nick had not found his kin yet, these people were not it. They exuded happiness and friendship which is the hardest thing for someone who feels like a looser to see. He wanted to harm them to take away his own feelings. Like she said, he was this 'crazy kid who never got help'. Human nature is selfish, but even if you do it for survival alone, we have to try and reach out and make sure no one is left out. This might end up being a survival tool alone. But the result would be the same. We are living in a different world now. This is so sad. I feel sorry for the kids who went through this. I feel sorry for them all. I wish we could turn back time. But how can we learn if we turn back time? Thankfully the future is brighter - otherwise we would end up just as bitter.

The schools need employees where their one main job is being friendly and getting to know the students.
    Especially those with problems.
Those that are always getting in trouble.
Along with those that all of a sudden change and are in trouble.
I was once hired to fix an entire 2,500 student high-school before it would be forced to close because of violence, drugs, gangs etc.
Seemingly good students that would all of a sudden do something wrong which seemed out of the norm.
Before just wanting to discipline them. Which was my main job in actuality. My conversation would go into finding out if someone close had passed away, a divorce are anything in that direction. A bad injury within the family, a break-up with someone, or any other situation. Including a problem with police, drugs, rape, or anything traumatic.
You'd be amazed at how many kids act out as a cry for help, understanding, or a need to talk, and to get help figuring things out.
As for the constantly problem students. I'd ask about their family life. One parent, sibling problems, feelings of being alone, not cared about, hunger, no friends, anger issues and not understanding how to deal with them.
I'm not talking about getting a psychologist involved.
These kinds of trained individuals, are trained to label kids in record time and shuffle on to someone else, and generally don't care about the individual child and the kids know it. They have been labeled and mistreated because of those labels most of their lives. It's a big part of their problem and effects them everyday in some way.
I'm talking about actually taking an interest in the child. Non official so they feel they can open up.
And like what I was taught to call them. A "Dutch uncle" approach.
Talk to them like a "Dutch uncle. Someone that loves and cares about them like a good parent, but isn't a parent, but is a loving family member. Someone they feel cares enough about them that won't lie to them and will tell them the real truth, good or bad, will give only good advice they can rely on and trust. Someone that only wants to help them because they are important and isn't RECORDING everything. Only listening, helping, talking through problems, concerns, and just trying to help because they actually care.
This is part of how I COMPLETELY changed a school and made it a normal nice place to teach and be a student, while reinforcing every rule and kids desires to learn with hopes of a better future they individually wanted.
My techniques changed the students attitudes towards the school. Changed the teacher's attitudes towards the students, changed how the school employees at every lever viewed the students, teaching and the schools position and mission of how to go about education, dealing with students and why they were doing this.
You'd be shocked how many people in the schooling industry are not there thinking and understanding that EVERYTHING GOING ON IS 100% FOR THE STUDENTS and nothing else matters.
    Without the students.
The school wouldn't need to exist.
Not even one job in the school would be needed, and not even the building would be needed.
It's all about students only and helping them get educated in whatever ways they need.
    Nothing is off bounds.
If they need to learn about respect. THAT'S A JOB THE SCHOOL MUST FILL.
Same thing for teaching kids to play well with others, how to be a good looser and a good winner, how to deal with anger issues, or a loss in the family, how to count, read, and understand laws, their Rights, how to play successfully with other children and how to handle disputes in a friendly way and how to bargain with what you want combined with what others want, along with everything else that comes up in real life.
The school system's job must be to create happy well rounded citizens that will eventually live, work, play and run this nation.
Making them criminals totally goes against every part of this.
Allowing them to think they are anything less then the best them they are trying to become. Is totally counter productive and harmful.
Most Schools have lost sight of the eventual prize they are working towards. SUCCESSFUL KIDS THAT ARE WORKING TOWARDS BECOMING SUCCESSFUL CITIZENS, PARENTS, EMPLOYEES AND REPUTABLE PARTS OF SOCIETY.
Teachers think their job is about them.
Teachers have zero importance if their students aren't happy and learning to love learning in general and whatever subject matter they are teaching.
This and much more is what's needed to fix in most all schools nationwide.
You want to stop school shooting. TAKE AWAY THE REASONS THEY ARE HAPPENING AND THE CAUSES BEHIND THOSE REASONS.
I had found it was nearly as easy I thought it would be.
The students wanted and welcomed the changes. Not all at first.
But most quickly started to realize how much better things became for them personally. Others took more time and focused energy.
    Kids WANT their lives fixed.
Kids generally want to be liked and to fit in.
The problem many times is they don't know how to properly do this and only know how to get BAD ATTENTION which is the core of most problems.
No child should get out of the early grades not knowing the difference between one number and another number.
I eventually was working with 11th and 12th graders that didn't understand anything about numbers.
I had access to 38 such students. Long story. The school system had them LABELED as unreachable.
I wasn't a believer for number of good obvious reasons.
With what I know about people etc. In less then a month. Only working with each of them individually for a few minutes every few days. Along with some worksheets I produced. I was successful with every one and made them capable of being able to count to a million any time they wanted as promised.
Then with those that further agreed. In the next week I taught every one of them, over a dozen about understanding fractions.
Labels harm children to their core.
The smarter kids quickly learn how to hide behind them AND DO NOTHING.
By the age they realize they screwed themselves. It's to late.
And they realize they've destroyed their lives and don't know what to do.
These many times are SMART and even VERY SMART KIDS.
I had found that the worst kids were the smartest in most cases.
These will become the dangerous and the criminal leaders.
America can't afford loosing so many of our smartest children this way to crime, criminal organizations, jails, prisons, overdose and all the other ways they find to finish destroying their lives and society in the process..
    Help fix the properly.
And more police, labels, and harmful treatment are not the way.
These are the things and ways that caused this problem.
And to keep doing them and to even think to keep doing them harder is pure insanity....

    • @swisscheese13wyles11
      @swisscheese13wyles11 6 років тому +4

Ali Mohammond yeah because every time theres a drill it confuses kids and makes them think that it's just a drill. Let me explain more, every time a teacher says there is a drill they make the kids think there is an actual drill to begin with. So when the kids hear it they go running because they think it's a normal drill, so they run. Then it ends up not being a drill and it makes a dumbass shooting have a better chance of shooting the innocent children to get shot.
I'm not a shooter it's just every school says that to students that when there is a drill think it's a real drill and run.
I hate school shooters I hate every murderer and every shooter to begin with and I wish they would all die in prison.
