Red Bull's Worst Race of the Year: This weekend in Hungary was a nightmare for Red Bull Racing, marked by two major crashes, frustrated drivers, and a highly anticipated upgrade package that fell flat. Max Verstappen's frustration reached new heights, resulting in unprofessional radio outbursts as the RB20 car failed to meet downforce and curb-riding expectations. Sergio Perez, despite having a strong race, still fell short, with Lewis Hamilton overtaking him in the championship standings. Daniel Ricciardo’s race was marred by a poorly timed pit stop strategy, leaving him out of the points. Meanwhile, Yuki Tsunoda showed incredible resilience, overcoming a severe crash in qualifying and racing through pain to secure valuable points. What does this chaotic weekend mean for the future of Red Bull Racing and its drivers? Watch our latest video to find out!

Love the LawVS lore this vid haha
I honestly think Max's anger was not just Hungary related, but a cascade of problems that have been brewing up ever since the start of the 2024 season. With the controversy of Horner and the behind the scene politics that have been going on at Red Bull, I think everything coupled with the under performance of the car and McLaren's surge of performance is getting Max worried.
Now granted his behavior during the race was inexcusable and childish, but I think this race was his breaking point and shows that Red Bull are not the fastest team anymore, leading to Verstappen over driving that car, making him more stressed.
That and losing Newey. Seems that's finally caught up to them.
He should also go to sleep a bit earlier😴

The temper, the mistakes, he could've easily been 3rd and maybe even 2nd if Oscar stayed in tyre management mode, the strategy wasn't optimal, but it also wasn't terrible because it still allowed him to fight for a podium finish.

If Max can just act that way on the radio then there's no reason for Yuki to not be brought up to Red Bull.
Red bull tolerate max's tantrums because he is still the de facto best driver on the grid. Yuki does not reach the same levels of performance.
Not justifying Max but he is cut from different cloth certainly miles clear off Yuki. His outburst was related to underperformance of weeks, Yukis outburst are just childish.
That kinda of behaviour is only understandable when you are pulling your team week in week out & doing it consistently for year after years. Max Lewis Alonso can warrant that to some extent rest of the grid can't.

We have to stop making excuses for the current champion bc when drivers like Yuki gets upset everyone says it’s unacceptable.
Exactly. So tired of people making excuses for Max because he's Max. It's still not okay.
Bro st fu, he had one total meltdown. What do you want? He does everything Alone. Checo is not there and Mclaren is the fastest car. His teams makes bad calls. And Max needs to push every single race on the limit. Sure its a bit much. But he wants Red Bull to wake tf up!
@@heideroosje12look we can see your a Max fanboy the second you swear already means you have lost the argument. Max is a racer but he also needs to understand it’s the team that has put him in the car and positions to win.
@@heideroosje12 Lmao. He had a good strategy. Had he been patient, he would have finished a comfortable podium and would have been really close to the McLarens who were fumbling between themselves. Stop trying to paint him as a hero. He always has meltdowns when things aren't going his way. He's a world class talent, but this was classic Max just losing it under pressure.
Max had the hangries. Hungary, hangry :) dad joke. Albon said the RB was difficult to drive and was the development driver after losing his seat. His input helped improve the car for Checo’s first year with the team. Apparently those issues have persisted. As some one who can be hot headed I appreciate Max being painfully honest and pissed. I feel for Checo, if he is in a more stable car I think he will regain his confidence and do great.
max's temper must be the pressure relief for all the crap still going on BTS. Toto must be smiling like a cheshire cat. VCARB's Danny Ric strat was so shite that his side of garage was calling for a plumber.
Yeah this has been bubbling since Imola.
@@LawVS Then there is Jos Verstappen smirking in RB garage when Checo's crashed in Q1. His whole presence is adding to the already present toxicity. I can't imagine Jos in the RB garage saying or doing anything inspiring things to boost morals of people there and to his son. If anything, Jos is ready with an sharpened axe and point to people that has wronged his son with giving him a bad strategy.
It’s as if Max and Red Bull are in the same situation as Button was in with Brawn at 2009; not the fastest team anymore, but with a fairly comfortable lead that they just need to maintain until the end.
While I get Max’s frustration, he’s not exactly displaying a united front with the team, and that teams needs to be more united than ever to counter the McLaren threat.
Absolutely! That cushion could be enough to give Max the title, but it will be closer than his last two.
@@LawVS Their upgrades aren't working and we still haven't hit any bumpy tracks or tracks with kerbs... I don't think that cushion is as big as you think given how bad of a position Red Bull are in right now.
@@LawVSnah but the diff between Red Bull and Brawn is Red Bull have enough to spend on the car to better it. Brawn didn’t. Excellent point. He was out of order on multiple levels.
Newey announcing his departure seems to be the point where RBR began to lose their competitive edge.
All while their competitors get faster.
It now seems more plausible that Max could consider racing for other teams. Toto should continue to publicly court Max if for no other reason than to annoy Horner and point out how slow the RBR has become.
Newey is still at the team the year out and helping, the car doesnt just get worse nor does the team become incompetent just like that. The Redbull simply started off with the updates arrived at the first race, then when other teams got their updates a few races later Redbulls weaknesses started to show, mostly the kerbs
@@BlissifiedHH Red Bull have changed the aero and cooling against Newey's advice.
@@BlissifiedHH He's not really doing anything at the moment. Since China he's stopped working on the F1 project, he moved on to making the super car.
@@BlissifiedHHBy Red Bulls own statements, Newey has largely been working outside of F1. Mainly their hypercar. And given he’s negotiated to not be subjected to gardening leave afterwards, best practice would be to isolate him from R&D/planning to avoid him from being able to apply this know how and expertise to any future teams design.
@@SelendekiYour statement isn’t incongruent with my own. Newey left reportedly out of disdain of Horners behaviour. There were undoubtedly morale issues that were compounded by Newey deciding to leave. This has hurt their performance. And they’ve lost the input of a key employee that has for years has had an outsized impact on the evolution of their concept. All these elements are possibly just part of the real-time capitulation of that team. Time will tell.
Nonetheless, Newey announcing his departure comes at almost the same moment RBR lost their dominance, and a team that had operated at a near faultless level for a few years.

On a weekend where he was clearly faster, Daniel was really let down by his team. He had enough pace to comprehensively beat Yuki and even get 8th place.
Hahahahah he wasn't. Yuki even with broken suspension in FP1 was quicker than him. FP2 Yuki almost lost completely becasue of car repairs. In Q1 he was blocked by Haas where he lost few tenths, Q2 Yuki was quicker and Q3 first push too, before he crashed. During the race he did masterclass with tires management and while Yuki was getting quicker near the end of his stint on hard tires, Daniel was getting slower. Yuki lost 30s+ to P8, you're mad thinking that Daniel could get sth better than Yuki.
Exactly!!!
Yeah no. Lets just not be delusional. Would he have been 9th and tsunoda 10th? Maybe. But we dont know. The Strategy for yuki might not have worked for daniel, we dont know if he couldve made the strategy work. And even if what makes you think he wouldve been able to fight Russel and Perez? Yes Daniel was quick, about as quick as tsunoda but not clearly faster. And even if faster, not 20+ seconds faster to actually get P8
@@Cerivex well he was stuck in durty air the whole race and dont forget that ric is really good on his tires. Remember spain for example?
@@hey2335 during Q2, Daniel only had one single push lap to save tires. Q3, he was the only one in the top 10 to improve his time after yuki crashed. He would have been higher than P9 if that crash didnt happen. Their first stint, Daniel was also faster than Yuki before they made him pit. Daniel had to overtake cars in his second stint meanwhile Yuki had clean air the majority of his race. Yuki did amazing with his tires. But the team could have gotten both cars in the points.
I have to wonder if Max is starting to speak up to the media BECAUSE the team isn't listening behind closed doors.
Yuki isn't getting the credit that is due. Never mind that he got 9th place, he managed to make the medium tires last as long as hard tires.
he was injured aswell. pulling that 1stop was a mega job
Remember when last year (I think) Red Bull got sick of Max criticizing their strategies, so they told him during a GP "what do you want to do?", Max replied "I don't have all the data". Max clearly had all the 'data' in the last GP with the way he was calling out every little thing the team did.

The plot thickens...
There is method to the madmaxness... Verstappen, by so publicly lambiasting the team, is now setting the scene for his departure from Red Bull over "irreconcilable differences" after the summer break. The battle for Max is over! Toto has won, his offer of a quarter billion has tipped the scales.
Meanwhile Newey is holding out for Max to make his move when he will follow suit. (Very likely one of Team Verstappen's demands from Mercedes, "Hire Adrian or fugettaboutit.":)
Certainly no coincidence that Newey announced his departure back in early May, just at the time when rumours about Mercedes being in negotiations with Verstappen emerged... he then immediately withdrew from the team's current operation (to avoid a prolonged gardening leave during 2025). Oh, Adrian is in on it!
Not sure whether this is fact or fiction but in all this melee I hope Carlos gets a good deal at either Mercedes or Red Bull.
@@Jigds It's the only reason why Carlos is holding out... Perez's seat was never in his crosshairs, he is aiming higher.
Christian Horner doesn't strike me as a man without a contingency plan in case the sh*t hits the fan and Max jumps ship. And I wouldn't be too surprised if Sainz is playing a big role in this plan.
Right now, everything hinges on Verstappen making a move and/or Mercedes announcing their driver lineup for 2025.
P.S. Of course, it is all speculation... the beauty of "F1 Musical Chairs". ;)
Hindy and Sportscar commentators in general used to joke a lot about sim racing prior to Covid, but have been much better about it since. It's a shame Crofty hasn't been able grow in the same way.

I want Horner to put Jos as Max' engineer just to see if Max would yell at his dad over the radio when things don't go his way.
Well hold on a second. Back at the end of May, Zak Brown even said it himself that "Trying to fight Red Bull where they are strongest, is a losing battle before it has begun. Playing to our own advantages where we can be our strongest is our advantage." Red Bull has the best car for DRS conditions and I dont think anyone would argue that. McLaren is going for the overall best average lap time versus the best specific sector times. That means over the course of lap after lap they will chew away ANY LEAD that Red Bull may build. At the end of every stint McLaren is at its strongest when Red Bull is trying to build up gaps. Its actually ingenious when the Red Bull fades off faster than the McLaren does. Thats strategy, and McLaren plays it perfectly. If McLaren can solve their pit stop dilemmas, they will undoubtedly beat Red Bull every weekend.
The thing about Max is he's Dutch. A lot of people who don't understand the Dutch people will always assume they are rude when in fact, in The Netherlands it is perfectly normal. People are very up front and honest about a lot of stuff and don't usually try to sugar coat things. I don't think the radio was bad at all. Stressed sure, like any racer who has been made promises that didn't come true , just with a Dutch flair to it.
^ This 100%. It's like people even after what, 9 years of being in formula 1? Max being a young phenom for years getting the spotlight, and then 3 times WDC winner, people still decide to ignore the fact that he is Dutch and they are just typically extremely straight up. I love it. But it gets annoying that commentators continue to go on and on about how rude he comes across, when he isn't all that different to the last several champions, let alone the GOATS, and they aren't even Dutch to excuse themselves. Its so tiresome. He is an extremely fierce competitor and expects the best so he can get the best outcome. Whether he is starting 14th or is half a lap faster than 2nd place. I think that is admirable, but he is constantly held to a higher standard than other champions and in this sport.
These guys are mic'ed up and everything is televised despite being in the most physically and mentally stressful moments in any sport and yet drivers are supposed to not be stressed or get upset at their engineers or team, all the while being constantly subjected to up to 3-5 G's, as if these people are just working normal jobs and they should never be mean to their co-workers like you wouldn't do in an office job or similar. It is all just ridiculous and seems to me more and more like the commentators are intentionally ingenuine and are just there to stir up drama and be controversial (unless it is an English driver of course). Anyway, I love your take, mate!
Do we know anything about, why it seems like the more upgrades a team brings, the worse they are doing? I mean I get that any upgrade is a bit of a risk, since you can only test things in race conditions once ship them, but how are the upgrades this consistently bad this season?

"Red Bull’s worst race of the year" for now.....
In a weekend where Verstappen finally showed some cracks, McLaren decided not to prioritize the championship battle of their de facto Nr 1 driver. I know it woulda been unpopular to rob Oscar of his first win, but if they're serious about challenging Max it would have been the right decision. They basically told Lando point blank that they don't believe he can win the championship. Neither McLaren nor Lando have got what it takes to challange for a title rn.
If lando places p1 and max p2 on alll the remaining racess he will win it, it might be impossible but still he has a chance
Not a chance Lando catches up, unless Red Bull falls even further. This was definitely a one-off weekend for them, as it's quite a different track, and similar to Monaco in many ways.
Max knows how to win with slower cars, and I just don't think Lando has it in him yet. In a couple of years, however, perhaps he will.

Crofty and the rest of the Sky team are the reason why I watch the F1TV online broadcasts rather than the Sky produced garbage. I have no problem with Max venting, or any other driver on the radio. They are there to win races and hopefully championships. Period. It's stupid to hold up high performing athletes in any sport as "role models". Howard Cosell said it well back in the early 1980s, where just because someone can throw a ball better than anyone, they shouldn't be seen as a role model. They are not heroes to be emulated.
In our society athletes are often considered role models for young aspiring children. But than again, most athletes doesn't have a mic to their mouth during the entire competition and broadcasted worldwide. Just lipreading you can see they are throwing lots of F bombs around.
But you and Howard are right, just because someone excel in a particular sport. Doesn't make them allround better person than anyone else.
@@NexuJin Yes. The point being that, you can appreciate their athleticism and skill. But just because they are good at that, it doesn't mean they are life to pattern your after. When Howard said what he said of course, it was about athletes being caught partying too hard, or abusing their spouses, that sort of thing. And then everyone reacting, "Oh what about the kids?" When Max has his diatribes, invariably some commentator will go on about "what message that sends to kids". It should be, not be a dill-hole, as opposed to, that's ok because my sports hero does it. I had an team for Sports Car GT and R-Factor 1... I miss those days as well.
So if Max keeps getting mad and decides to jump over to Mercedes or even quit F1 will we see a Perez/Ricciardo line up at Red Bull next year? Or one of those two with Yuki at RB and Lawson/Hadjar at VCARB? Or maybe Sainz will be brought in to lead Red Bull with Yuki there too and both Perez and Ricciardo out and Lawson at VCARB alongside Jack Doohan because Alpine took too long to decide if they wanted to promote an academy driver yet again so Jack goes back to the team that supported him in F3.
Perez P16 - P7
Max P3 - P5
That's an unexpected level of performance from a bad qualifying.
Max’s conduct on the radio and in the race was unbecoming of a champ; Crofty stoking the flames bringing up his simracing is the last thing anyone needs right now. Consider:
1) Checo being a liability to the team and not being able to depend on him like Mercedes would with Bottas
2) A radical redesign of the Aero package at the beginning of the year, Newey leaving right after. The new upgrades are a step backwards and they can’t have any further design input from Newey
3) McLaren have the fastest car and Mercedes are back on the rise, while Redbull are stagnating
4) Mercedes, Ferrari and likely even Honda having the better engine in 2026, while RBPT would be starting from a scratch. It’s a huge gamble for a 26 year old in his prime and by then, all the other top teams would have a clear #1 driver
5) Strategy, the one department where Redbull have the upper hand over all other teams, failed him during the race
So, for a 26 year old torn between sticking with the team that gave him a chance at age 17 and helped him win 3 WDCs, with an uncertain future there OR heading over to Mercedes, but no later than next year because no top team would hire in 2026, it’s a big deal.
Why not? Sounds like Max deserves a 20min ladder rant
Good thing they didn't give Checo the update lol
We want more from Max that's was awesome stuff no matter what he has a point this is not a kiddy sport it raw and entertaining.
Considering Mercedes and well slowly but surely Ferrari catching up with red bull. I wonder if max will strongly consider going to Mercedes as not only the management of red bull is not looking good especially with the power struggle between horner and the ceo of red bull but the overall development of the car this season from having a dominant couple of races at the start but even with the extremely upgrade brought at hungrary failing in the sense of closing the gap with McLaren combined with the impatient of max demanding to get into the top all i can conclude that the remainder of this season at the next season will be a proper fight of the constructors but also the drivers championship
Showing their age for criticising max for staying up late doing racing sims?
No shot. Sleeping is one of THE most important things we do as a living organism, sleeping effects everything. Think about sleep this way from an evolutionary standpoint, when you're sleeping you're not gathering food, you're not searching for a mate and you're vulnerable to predators for around 8 hours at a time which means you have to spend time finding places to hide while you're in that vulnerable state instead of doing the most important things needed to survive. Unless sleep is absolutely mandatory for surviving and performing well then that is the biggest evolutionary mistake in the entire animal kingdom.
In order to optimize your performance in anything you need to optimize your sleep as a mandatory part of that, and max staying up late playing sim racing shows a level of complacency, and I think it's correct to criticize that complacency

LMAO @ Oscar's "noice"
F1 media didn't mention he raced slightly injured
Well Max was driving Angry yes and said some things he shouldn't have, but people love to hate !! Look at what caused it, Imagine Pitting 2 x and both times you get undercut by 6s + !!! Holy crap RB Pit wall looked like Ferrari Sunday !!! In the end Max had to make up 13s on Hamilton "In the slower car!!!!" didn't surprise me Max lost his temper, many says he shouldn't but its easy sitting here and throwing stones from glass houses. If Hamilton or Leclerc was in same situation you all would have blamed Merc and Ferrari yet you Blame Max ?!?!!?!?!
Win a sim race or win an F1 GP....yeah, I'd go to bed a bit earlier. (I'm old and not a gamer in any way)
I get you but Max is free to do what he wants and hey, at least he won it. Can you imagine how mad he would be if he had lost that race?
@@LawVS Max is certainly free to do what he wants but it isn't the way to go about doing the best at your job. It does affect performance even at the elite level, in fact, possibly more at the elite level. They are all elite athletes and you need to be at your peak to optimize your abilities..
@@LawVS he wouldnt have been mad at all!! What a load of nonsense!! Ypu are vile posting this. Thats a lie!! He and his teammates have raced so many times and also not won...not 1 time he was mad!! YOU LIE
@@LawVS I mean, is he free to do what he wants? I cannot imagine RB pays him millions upon millions to hinder his IRL race for a sim.
Boy did perez need this. Imagine if max yet again got a podium. He’d be under even more fire.
Verstappen's comments were so spicy someone had a long night in the john after the race.
Do you write these solo? You’re show is more entertaining than most races now

Where was Croft when Raikkonen showed up to Grand Prix after drinking the night before? I am certain there are countless cases where drivers were 'not getting enough sleep', I detest boomers.
Max doesn't play games just for laughs. This is his passion and something he will be do LONG after he quits F1.
@@LawVS I understand and fully recognise the mentality. I too have competed before, both irl and gaming. And intend to make a career out of it, some people are born to grind. People like croft will never realise that.

worse so far we still got plenty of races and a WDC and contructors on the line now that RB is not the team on the charts.

I'm somewhat curious what happens if a team hits the cost cap but need to fix the car. Do they just disappear for the rest of the year?
Correct if i am wrong. But did the FIA Not bring a rule regarding drivers standards bringing the sport into disrrpute
You mean, they should exclude McLaren for the threatening radio calls to Lando all race? Yes they should. That was UNACCEPTABLE
@@gealingeman8643 unfortunately driver is driver and team team. Both drivers are part of the team. all drivers want to win the championship. The team wants to win the constructors I trulybelieve Norris has no real chance to win the championship this year unless something really bad befalls Red Bull.
I am certainly not going to agree with your statement about threats. There were no threats made over the radio. It’s all about the team
No one was threatened. If you don’t do this, you will lose your job. I heard nothing like that.
McLaren realize they have a serious chance to win the constructor this year
Pushing towards, that is a higher priority than an outside chance of winning the drivers
Could it have been handled differently of course we have to look at the whole picture instead of a narrow little window
I totally respect lando for letting Oscar through. I am sure as racer as a driver it went against everything within him.
Now the dust has settled and he has had time to reflect upon it he realizes it was the right and best decision he made
@@F1SCR007I don't think it's good decision tho, cus if the goal is got 1-2 finish why throwing norris and make him to lose his position? Like u said, it's about constructor championship right? So this decision is based on cus piastri is "slow" and norris had good pace so they said like "u know what, hey lando give ur position to piastri and try to handle the second position from other driver cus u had more pace than piastri and other driver" something like that?
@@gilanganugrahfajar5502
Well piastri is not slow he certainly got off the line quicker than Norris and built up quite a lead in a couple of laps
Personally given what happened during the race was it the right decision. Yes. Was it handled correctly absolutely no
Going off on a tangent here.
Both got there first W this year although technically. Piastri got a sprint W it can only be good for moral for both
Norris is a good driver for sure. But he at the moment is not great. He needs to learn to drive with his elbows out. Mr nice guy dose not cut it
Verstappen will not easily hand over the trophy. and infact i believe if it comes too it he will pull a Sienna / Shumacher move to win it
Look who taught him and remember who was driving at same time
McLadderen or Ladderghini for the sim team name. Great episode as always.

Meet the new Max, same as the old Max.
I’m impressed with law here
He clearly likes yuki as a driver .
But still talked about the poor strategy of Ricciardo.
Make no mistake Ricciardo was the best red bull driver of the weekend.
Don’t forget Perez and Tsunoda crashed. A lucky strategy for both doesn’t change this And red bull knows this
Mad Max+Bad performance Redbull= Chaos in paradise
Genuinely when was the last time Yuki threw his team under the bus and publicly blamed them for his underperformance like max and Danny did in Hungary?
Any confirmation max slept at a Hungarian service station after the race 😂😂😂😂😂
Well red bull did say they can live without Adrain Newey
dbza vibes from the bit about Stella and Norris hahaha
Need more of the alphamaxnova bits. Love them!
They screwed k mag too. 10th to 15th because of a stupid pit strategy.
You can express yourself without the need to belittle others. I don't think it is that hard.
So when Max Verstappen stays up till 4 simracing he's "free to do what he wants in his time" but when I do that I'm "not allowed to sleep at work" and "on my last chance". Sure.
I hope they got to the bottom of what went wrong with Yuki's RB, that was scary in practice.
It was qualifying and he admitted it was his fault.
Yet the team managed to turn his weekend around by rewarding him with points, whilst sacrificing their other driver, who didn't destroy a car on Saturday. Italian logic at its finest.
I'm pretty sure staying up late to take part in a video game tournament the night before a race you're paid over $2m for, is pretty poor from Max.
interesting times for max ahead. last 2 years he had a rocketship car due to newey and useless perez as team mate. now with newey gone and other teams like mclaren, ferrari and mercedes with top drivers have similar performing car as max , he will have to race them and will face a tough time now. max future could look like vettel when he was exposed badly without superior car designed by newey.
Ok,. useless
😂😂😂 Max has been winning since 2016
