I was always told that Commodore started as a calculator company, but their history goes back much further.

Yes. I had heard that they were a furniture company. It's nice to flesh out the history. Did you know that IBM sold meat slicers in the early days?

What an amazing contribution this family has made. Driving down the price of computers for the masses. Thanks.

Commodore brought computers into the home for so many millions of people with the low cost. Commodore deserves a lot more credit for putting computers into the home. Apple may have created the myth that they had the most influence, but it was Commodore who had the most far reaching effects. Apple had good marketing and strategy and that is why they survive today. Had Commodore done a better job of marketing and had better management, then they would have been still around today and dominating the market.

@@vcfederation I loved my Commodore 64 and Amiga computers here in Australia. The first companies I worked for were founded by friends who met through the Commodore scene. Those computers helped shape many aspects of my life and continue to bring me joy. I agree that the opportunity was lost, but also have to say the AGA machines didn't live up to Commodore's market leading standards and helped sink the company.

@@vcfederation Really great talk! If you happen to see Leonard could you please ask him about the AMY sound chip, that never happened to be released at Atari..would be also a great talk..:)

I used to be upset about the loss of Atari particularly and a little bit for Commodore, but I now understand that they really had no chance. Even Apple barely managed to limp into the mid 1990s (I'd be happy for that ecosystem to go away though.... hahaha).

Yeah. Commodore and Atari were great companies that had a great run and greater potential, didn't make it in the end.

Yes. Very informative. I enjoyed the clarification by both of them to fill in the gaps.

If I had been present, I would have asked Leonard the following.
"You mentioned that rather odd conversation with Chuck Peddle about his dream of living in a world like A Door Into Summer.
What do you suppose Mr. Peddle would have thought of the world today with the recent advances in AI? Like Chat GPT and so on. Is that the world he was looking to create?"
