Nice! A large 4 cylinder has a very interesting and unique sound, I love the whole history of the 924 and it's evolution into the 944 and 968. Porsche was crazy to put a 3.0 litre 4 banger in a car lol, love the 80s and 90s cars!

Hell no. Its hardly even a performance engine looks and sounds like it belongs in a tractor.
It's the most amazing car for long journeys. I've done over 700km in 5 hours from Germany to Belgium on 1 tank of fuel and in comfort (I couldn't live with that exhaust tbh). And the handling is brilliant.

I am immediately reminded of the a test drive I took in a 944. The seating position, view out of the windshield and sounds the two cars make are very similar. Thanks for doing this. The transaxle Porsche's need more love!
I love the 968! I love the 944 also. And the 928 and everything else
Had a 968 until 2000. The whine is from the torque tube bearings (a common fault). Other main fault was the timing belt tensioner. Great car overall... had lots of fun with it and its torquey engine.

Great car. I owned a couple of them for about 10 years. I miss it. Nice rev match. That was hard to do with the dual mass flywheel and the old school cable throttle in that car. Thanks for the review.

I think a well-kept 968 is a tough car to find. For those looking for one, make sure you ask the owner if he/she ever had the pinion bearing issue with the manual transmission or the damper plate replaced if it is an automatic. Its transmission is the most troublesome among the FR Porsches of late 70s-mid 90s era but it is very rewarding to drive.

The owner says the gearboxes on the 968 always are noisy.... I think his gearbox needs an overhaul, the pinion bearing sound could easily be heard. It shall not be like that!
porscheg50 Yeah I think all 968 cars came with an improperly installed pinion bearing. I sure have one still in need of an overhaul 😖

Just Fyi in 2020. I have the car in my gargage. Father bought new in Germany with the help of an army base leiutenant. Would not sell to americans back then per porsche america. Car is now in my possesion. Gotta tell ya, it is a super car to drive. who cares what the stygma is, hope in the passenger seat and feel what a 3 litre 4 cylinder feels like. Still barks 3rd gear! Only 24k on mine and very pampered. Family memories so who cares about appreciation or price! and no not for sale, was offered 40k from a car guy who saw it while i got tires balanced. Nope! You can get them for less than 20k with lots of miles. maybe when I am gone this will be on mecum auction.

What type of exhaust? I need a new exhaust for my 968. I can barely hear the exhaust when I’m driving.
So far I’m leaning towards the b&b.
its just a muffler delete we did it ourselves but we are putting a real exhaust on soon
