The Primary inspiration for - House Of Dragon (George R R Martin).
Wasn't the War Of the Roses the inspiration for ASOIF?
Well presented and explained. I also have to say it is a pleasure not to have very badly painted portraits of rulers. It's much more interesting to see the wheres and whys.
You can measure the success of an English monarch by how many later kings share his name. Eight Henrys . . . eight Edwards . . . six Georges . . . four Williams . . . now three Charleses . . . three Richards . . . only two Jameses (though not through lack of trying) but just one Stephen and one John {and a Louis whose brief reign is politely ignored}.
2 marys and 2 Elizabeths
@@debashrita_2013 And one Victoria. If there isn't another it will be because Elizabeth II has eclipsed her in the popular imagination as a paragon of a queen.
Alfred was really good, but was the only one.
Also so glad you brought back the Intro (really like it), and new presenter seems to have fitted in nicely.
BET I hoped you would continue covering the Anarchy after you debuted with The White Ship and I am not Disappointed.
Henry the 1st's daughter was Maude; Matilida was Stephen's wife.
Awesome video, very well told too!
Got a new subscriber in me

Really good
0:59 why is the guy 2nd from the right dressed like that when the others aren't? Did this catch him in a state of being partially unclothed? I can believe that. It just jumped out because of the rest of the people in the shot minus the squire, were in armor & chainmaile
Someone said recently: if this was a civil war then what about the Peasants' Revolt, was that a civil war ?
Thinking about it, a series of battles led by nationals of the same country would only qualify as a civil war if: a monarch is replaced as a consequence.
In the case of Matilda there was only replacement of a royal lineage as she was never crowned, also Stephen didn't have any heirs? so his lineage wasn't replaced. Maybe it doesn't qualify as a civil war?
