    Team Wave Wrangler 🇬🇧!
Friday 26th January at 06:19 local time, Elliot Awin crossed the finish line in English Harbour, Antigua after 44 days & 1 hour. Elliot’s were out at the fort cheering him in as he passed the Pillars of Hercules, heading towards the finish line where two flares lit up the sky before another beautiful Antiguan sunrise!
The first steps on land are always a bit wobbly, but family were waiting with open arms ready to embrace their rower and today the early morning audience at the dockyard witnessed emotional moments when Elliot was greeted by his family and loved ones.
As with any row across an ocean, there are challenges to face and when asked about this Elliot said, “I think it’s the decision-making which is the hardest, as in knowing what is the right thing to do. Is it rowing into the wind? Across the wind? Or is it right to rest? There were days where I rowed for two hours just to drift back and was thinking whether that was the right thing to do. The physical part of it for me was fine, it was really the decision-making and living onboard that was the tricky part.”
It’s been said that the experience of rowing an ocean is a bit like a mirror, it shows you who you are. Elliot commented, “I think it’s more like a peeler. It peels back every single layer of you, and you get to understand what's important to you. That's what you really find out, rather than just who you are. Being resourceful is one thing; you HAVE to be, otherwise, you wouldn’t be here.”
