When I was a child, we needed to grow at least 700 kg for family of 4. We ate potatoes every day, there was no dinner without them. Every day potatoes and meat, and soup, veggies often were optional.
You're living my dream! ❤ I hope someday I will be able to dig my own succesful "gold" like you hehehe. Harvesting, cooking, and eating anything from the yards is such a good, peaceful feeling...
Potatoes, if you can store them properly, can be used almost in any way! They can be used in stews & casseroles; like she said roasted, boiled, fried, canned and a LARGE _baking potato_ can be a meal by itself! This is why the 'Irish' left Ireland during the 'Potato Famine' for greener pastures, this STARCH is essential in a SHTF situation when _all you have to eat is what you can still grow!_
Yes we have but in other areas like the compost. We till the ground once a year so when we do that we’ve found some that way. I’d like to get to a point of not tilling but our soil is so hard
Dawn dish soap for sure. I mix it up in a 1 gallon sprayer - dawn dish soap and water. Spray it on this young bugs while they are still soft, kills them every time.
Just found your channel and subscribed!! How did you amend your soil for the potato bed? My soil is far too heavy. Thank you in advance! Your garden looks great. The dawn dish liquid is a great idea. I just ordered some from Amazon.
Thank you so much! Our soil is heavy too. And in half the garden about 6-8 inches down it’s clay. So for the potatoes we bought some soft composted top soil. $40 for a huge truck load so once the potatoes came up we hilled with the compost. I have a shorts video if it 😊
Thank you. We did side dress one time with 13-13-13. Then the last time we hilled the potatoes we used a loose compost soil, kinda like a raised bed mix that we buy in bulk for a great price and that mix also had fertilizer in it.
Those bugs on your squash you are spraying with dawn are young squash bugs. They will just get big and you will get more. The best way to deal with them is to hand pick them off and drop them in a jar of soapy water or gas or alcohol.
We are located in alabama on the gulf coast. There is some sand and also clay about 6-8 in down in some areas. Florida is VERY sandy! We are about 45 min from the beach
We don’t mix sand in the soil but there is some sand. There is also clay. I’d love to learn how to improve the soil because it needs some TLC. For the potatoes we did add a good amount of loose composted soil that we bought in bulk
We live on 1/2 an acre and my grandmother lives on half an acre too. Together it’s a whole acre and the fruit trees are in our yard and we put the garden in her yard since she gets more sunlight! The garden itself is 50x50
We do have moles etc. some potatoes do have damage from the moles. In my raised sweet potato bed we put hardware cloth on the bottom so nothing could get through except worms. But as far as the regular potatoes, we don’t do anything
Nice harvest I might sound like an ass for saying this but please next time don’t have your littles ones walking over the potatoes next to those weights super dangerous as a dad myself it gave me mild anxiety 😂

Hello 🎉
Potatoes, if you can store them properly, can be used almost in any way! They can be used in stews & casseroles; like she said roasted, boiled, fried, canned and a LARGE _baking potato_ can be a meal by itself! This is why the 'Irish' left Ireland during the 'Potato Famine' for greener pastures, this STARCH is essential in a SHTF situation when _all you have to eat is what you can still grow!_
And I can also imagine, that if one has early varieties, one could get two harvests a year of them.
Great harvest, Kristen! 😊
Thanks for sharing

Congratulations! Great work! They look gorgeous.
GOD IS AMAZING
I love forming work 😊🥰😊

I store my potatoes in dry shavings it works well if you keep them cool and dark
Great idea!!!

Love y'all. Beautiful garden. Do y'all ever miss a potato and end up with a new plant?
Yes we have but in other areas like the compost. We till the ground once a year so when we do that we’ve found some that way. I’d like to get to a point of not tilling but our soil is so hard

Thanks for watching! I hope you enjoy everything 🙂
At 3:05, I believe those are squash vine nymphs, in other words, the babies that have hatched from those eggs.
😖😖 I sure hope not! But if they are they got to go somewhere else haha
@FavoredAcreHomestead the Dawn spray will help take them out😊
Yes! BT is great! We use it on broccoli. Your garden looks excellent!
Thank you! Now that summer is in full force and it being 100+ degrees it’s looking a little sad but soon we will be planting for fall 😁😁😁
Wow! Great harvest
thank you❤

Just found your channel and subscribed.......
Awesome! I hope you enjoy 😊
one way i deal with clusters of garden pests is to get my shop vac out and suck them up! doesnt harm plants and its instant joy...lol
Haha I’ve heard of that!!! I would definitely do that!
Nice harvest!
That had to be a rotten seed potato. Lol.
FYI you never wipe the dirt and you need to cure them before you store them.
Your potato is good.
Nice 👍🏾 🥔🥔🥔🥔🥔

All the time
Interesting how the soil looks so moist and then when you get down to the taters it’s dry.
That's a good harvest of potatos do u use feed cause I'm having problems with mine this year
Thank you. We did side dress one time with 13-13-13. Then the last time we hilled the potatoes we used a loose compost soil, kinda like a raised bed mix that we buy in bulk for a great price and that mix also had fertilizer in it.
What did u fertilize with? N yes to DE alive that stuff here in North Texas ❤
We fertilize with 13-13-13 and also added a soft top soil to the top and hilled with that!

I burn them with a long handle lighter so I don’t have to touch anything either.
Saludos saludos
may i suggest you wash potato in big vat of water and then put out to dry. cloth cleaning is very much time.
Thank you! ☺️
Impressive haul! Is that sand mixed into the soil?
Sandy soils are really common in Florida. Not sure where they are located.

Yes!! 🥰
If you grow Armenian yard long cucumbers the squash bugs leave them alone. They are a melon that looks and tastes like a cucumber.
Interesting! I’ll have to try those!!!!
Lisa I was wondering why mine weren't being attacked..
@@sunshinedayz2172 I think it’s a blessing!
how many acres do you have ??
We live on 1/2 an acre and my grandmother lives on half an acre too. Together it’s a whole acre and the fruit trees are in our yard and we put the garden in her yard since she gets more sunlight! The garden itself is 50x50
How much dawn do you mix with the water?
I didn’t measure but for that bottle maybe just a teaspoon worth but I only filled it with water half way up
Wear gloves girl. ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Just curious, how come?
How did you get rid of rodents??
We do have moles etc. some potatoes do have damage from the moles. In my raised sweet potato bed we put hardware cloth on the bottom so nothing could get through except worms. But as far as the regular potatoes, we don’t do anything
@@FavoredAcreHomestead okay👍
Was this filmed this year? All mine are still green
@Favored Acre Homestead o didn't mark the exact date but I'd guess early March so that makes sense. Shouldn't be long now! Thank you for the response!
Yes this was filmed this year. I’m sorry my other comment must have never posted.
Nice harvest I might sound like an ass for saying this but please next time don’t have your littles ones walking over the potatoes next to those weights super dangerous as a dad myself it gave me mild anxiety 😂
Oh I know lol. You can’t tell in the video but I was telling her to be careful and to go back by the camera. Her walking on the potato’s was 😬😬😬
whats pound ? its 2023 i thought we use kg by now ..
You dont need to cut squash off, just twist it 🤦
We prefer to cut 🙂
You can use neem oil on your plants. bugs hate the taste. but it's natural from the neem tree.
I will have to give that a try! Thanks!
@@FavoredAcreHomestead I use it on all vegetables and fruit trees. You can use it up till you harvest. Just wash your produce with clean water.
Hi. Lovely harvest. New sub here @kimshomesteadliving
