  • LEARN TO FLY | VFR CROSS COUNTRY NAVIGATION - Lesson #1b | Student Pilot | Full ATC
    Well, today I finally get to leave my local training area and go on my first cross-country flight. This is the first video in a series of complete lessons which will document the my journey to obtain a cross-country endorsement.
    Today's navigation flight, which is described in more detail in the video takes from Wollongong (YWOL) to The Oaks (YOAS) and back. To keep the video short, this flight will be split up into two separate videos - part a and part b. This is the 2nd part of the first lesson where we return home to YWOL from YOAS.
    Included below is a link to the weather brief, flight log and a map of the planned flight in case you want to follow along a little more closely:

    Another great vid thanks RJW, I've been learning in a Jab230 with Dave at The Oaks, terrific bloke and great CFI. Great to see your getting right into the whole flying thing with plenty of different types and endorsements, certainly motivating me to do the same once I get over the first hurdle, Solo! Well Done and Thanks for sharing your journey......

    Great video mate I will be looking for those fire trails next time I fly down. Bad luck regarding the battery mate, better that than fuel! Happen to me coming back from Cowra, now carry extra batteries for both cameras and change for each leg of the nav. Just a suggestion Richard, have a look at Mark Robert's camera set up, when he gets the poor shot from the head height cam, he switches to the forward looking camera mounted near the glare shield. That way your loyal subscribers are seeing what you are seeing the whole trip, particularly the cloud on the horizon. Excellent overlays with your EFB and progressive flight log. Upside down with Kenny tomorrow in RRW. Cheers wtrofoz

      Thanks for the tip Will. The last few videos I accidentally had spot metering turned on which causes the outside to be washed out at times. Subsequent videos will be better in that regard.
      Have fun with Kenny today mate... hope you get some video footage! I'll be doing the same next week :)

      Anthony Sibary I really enjoyed flying in there. Ended up chatting with Dave (CFI) for about an hour which was fun. Love the relaxed nature of the place and all the old relics 😁

    Well done mate, you seem very confident, your instructor looks like a good guy, are you planning to get your CPL?

      Thanks Steve...I did a bit of practice flying on flight simulator at home so i was well prepared for the first cross-country flight. No plans for a CPL at the moment but that may change in the future.

    hello I am 16 and working on getting my private pilots license... well I won't have it until I am 17 but I have 5 hours total and still learning lol my first landing was so bad hahaha but I am working on it please make more educational videos so I can learn more from you and your past experiences I am actually about to fly in 30 minutes lol

      Plenty more videos coming mate. You'll be nailing the landings in no time mate. 4 tips for you 1)ask your instructor and see if you can do a few low passes down the strip to get a good feel for the plane at slow speeds 2) Eyes down the runway during the flare 3) nose straight with rudder 4) control drift with ailerons

      Alright man thanks lol we did steep turns and stalls I nailed my step turns and my stalls we're "average" on the 1-5 scale (1 is best 5 us worst 3 is average) I got a 2 on steep turns lol keep up the videos I need them

    • @RomeoJulietWhiskey
      @RomeoJulietWhiskey  7 років тому

      scottyjames400 I use geotracker for Android, but pick any that suits as long as you can record a GPS track. There are heaps of there.
