Hi Jeff! The Alocasia "Okinawa Silver" is so beautiful. I can see why it would be your favorite. I hope they all make it and the new leaves are variegated. Thank you for sharing!
Move to southern California.....My non-traditional garden club could use another crazy plant person. Right now me and my neighbor are the only two nuts, everyone else is pretty normal. We are going to the San Diego Plumeria festival on Saturday.
Great video as always! I just recently got some variegated alocasias (I believe they are within the odora/gageana variety) and plan on propagating and dividing myself so I am bouncing around doing my research before I dive in. LOL! Thanks for sharing how you divided yours. It will come in handy when I divide mine out. Curious to know how they all are doing now and how was the recovery process for these.
I saw your variegated alocasia on Instagram, very exciting! All of them did well, I gave some away(that weren't variegated) so I don't know how those are doing. Initially the smaller one's dropped some foliage, which is totally normal for these when their roots are disturbed. Within a few weeks they had flushed out back out started back into their normal growing behavior. Right now it's winter so they are just chillin and not doing much. Oh, and after about 3 to 4 weeks I resumed fertilizing weekly but I dilluted to fertilizer to ½ strength until they were back into full-on active and normal growth, their roots can burn easily.
I just started collecting different types of rare Alocasia. And so I am looking around for videos that helps learn the plants. Great video and very informative.
Beautiful plants, great tips on how to care for them. I love yours, but won't be growing any where I live, my climate is too dry, and I don't think they would be too happy. Maybe if I had a greenhouse I could try growing outside then wintering in the greenhouse. Thanks again Jeff for a great video, have a great week, bye for now.
JeffFff!!! Very informative video!! All of my elephants ears are planted in the ground and yeah they sure do multiply!!! I missed a few of your videos -- drats life got in the way -- I'll catch up though :) Keep up the awesome work!!
Hey! I love your videos! Thanks for the inspiration! I absolutely love the “elephant ear” group! Could you do a video on the DsMV virus that is plaguing new collectors? That would be awesome and helpful😁🌿 keep growing friend!
Very informative video, as always, Jeff! You've encouraged me to try these plants out next year. Of course the climate here is like Death Valley, so we'll see what happens. :)
Hi Jeff I saw my first honney bee but not were i thought i would it was in the back room of were i work for my flower shope were their was no plants or flowers go all summer looking for them and see one not when i hope i would.
I just got a variagated alocasia odora pup, and it's third leaf unraveled and is completely green. Even the stem. I'm curious if you think I should let it continue to grow to see if the fourth leaf will bring back the variagation, or if I should cut off the green leaf in hopes of bringing back the variagation. It's a pretty small pup.
I live in the Caribbean and always drive pass this huge variegated elephant ears on the side of the road , its so gorgeous . I want to ask for a cutting how do I go about it ? Can I get a leaf and put it on water to root , or what ?
"All you ever want to do with a dehydrated plant, is hydrate it." there should be a plaque or something.Definitely don't expect the forecast rain to water it. All the rain last week not withstanding.
No offense 😉 Dude, it’s Okinawa (o-kee-nawa) I’m from Okinawa 😝. Sorry I just cringed everytime you said the name. Anyways, love that plant, too bad it didn’t stay all variegated. I wish I could grow one here, but it’s too dry here in central Cali. I have a hard time inside even with humidifier for those delicate plants like Alocasia and Calathea’s. Very informative as usual. Your the best, I still love ya. 😍 Happy Planting 💜🌺🌸🥰
Poor little Alocasia...... we’re all a little miss shape’n in some way or the way 🤔🤔😂🤣😂🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰 Just had to pick lol absolutely love your spotlight videos!!!!! Any thoughts about doing one on Tradescantia spathacea Tricolor? Not sure if it’s tropical or just a house plant, but it’s purple 💕💕🥰🥰💕💕🥰🥰
In nature there are plants that pucker , mis-shapen ,have a scrunched look.not only in the Alocasia and Colocasia ( arum n aroids) sp but other plant species also . The most beautiful plants that we love comes from defects ..such as the one you are showing now .. Variety is the spice of life !☺😊
Thanks for the great video! I ‘inherited’ some of these plants. Some are labeled Variegated Alocasia Odora. Some are labeled Variegated Alocasia Macrorrhiza and Variegated Gageana. What are the differences? I need to repot and propagate, but before I do, I want to make sure I don’t mix them up. Thanks so much!
Hey Enzo! The main difference between the Odora and Macrorrhiza is size, the Macrorrhiza will get larger. The Gaeana is a very special alocasia imo. They usually have more rounded foliage and less cold tolerant than the other two.
Any chance we can get an update on this. I did check your Insta, couldn't find anything. I used your video to assist with my own separation and wanted to see how yours did if there was any specific aftercare you would recommend. I have to grow mine indoors because I live in the southwest, extremely dry. I know it's been a minute, but curious :)
this is your personal spellcheck letting you know you wrote hot instead of how in the first sentence of the video description. 😉 Do you ever find it strange that some plants have never produced a variegated sport? I don't think I've ever seen a variegated rosebush or palm tree. With as many roses that have been produced over the years, you would think at least one would be variegated by now.
Lol! Thank you! I fixed it. I don't know about the rose bushes but there are a few variegated palms. I've seen variegated adonidias and lady palms. Variegated Rose's would be beautiful!... probably.
식물소개 영상 멋지네요 관리도 잘해야겠어요
Nice educational video my new friend thanks from Davao goodluck

The warmer and more arid the climate, the less sun they'll want. I'm sure you can pull it off!
Hi Jeff I saw my first honney bee but not were i thought i would it was in the back room of were i work for my flower shope were their was no plants or flowers go all summer looking for them and see one not when i hope i would.
Hey Kit! Glad you atleast saw one honeybee, hopefully there will be more!

Very true! Although this week I'm now trying to save plants from the torrential rain we've had this week. Too much rain now!
