A Non-Brony at Bronycon - Short Documentary

- After 11 months of (mostly) procrastination and an immersed, frantic week of editing, I've finally finished a creative project, and my first major creative contribution to the MLP fandom!
I was actually hoping to finish this right before this year's Bronycon (which I went to), but my editing software was acting up during export (which is the same reason that there's an uncorrected error in the credits) and so I had to suffice for right after the convention.
But to the MLP fandom: Seriously, thanks. You guys have changed my life in many ways - I don't think that I could not be a brony now even if I wanted to! After three years of being in this insane fandom, I can say with confidence that you guys are truly amazing.

I’m personally not a brony, nor do I think I can ever be one, but I’m glad your friend gave the convention a chance and that you got to share a piece of your life with her without feeling pressure. Good on both of ya for having a good time!

Well yea, I have nothing against bronies as most of these guys are part of other communities that I'm apart of. Such as gaming, anime, manga, comic books etc... The problem with me is this is a TV show designed for little girls and worst of all, it is fucking terrible. I don't understand the weird obsession with it, the show is unwatchable. Just stick to anime.
I've recently returned to anime, but I remain a Brony, and I've realized that despite not being an anime, MLP is a great show in the CGDCT tradition. Have you seen any of the show?
I also left anime but returned both are cool , I cant get into new anime...
well its a jump up from most other kids/girls shows, and many anime are bad (ive seen a lot)

I find it is a bit difficult to hear you two on some parts of the video. Adding subtitles could definitely help out.
Other than that, I think you did a great job with this video. It's always nice to hear what others think of the fandom and what experience they go through in these documentaries.

I think you missed one important ingredient which makes visiting such conventions a really cool experience: friends. The show is called "Friendship is Magic" for a reason ;) When you're pretty much alone on a convention, it's just not the same experience as when you go there with a group of friends (fortunately, you can usually _make_ some _new_ friends at those conventions too ;) ). Friendship is what it's really about.

Great film! I feel like she might've been a little biased because you were the one she was talking too, but it's rare to find someone so open to new experiences. Props to her for that, and you for setting this all up.
It's funny...
I have an audio file on my computer. I downloaded it somewhere, but I have no recollection where. It's an Ogg Vorbis file of all things, it's name is "Rarityisbestpone.ogg" and it plays someone saying "No one expects the Pink-quisition!" when opened.
That's where I got the inspiration for saying that in the documentary.

I went to the last nightmare night in dallas and had a lady give up her hand drawn lauren faust sketches on prineces twi you could tell she didnt want to give it away and at the end it sold for 7000 by the host of the event and the host gave it back to her you dont see stuff like that anywere else man i love this fandom

I actually saw the Q cosplayer at 14:24 again at the Maryland Renaissance Festival; I think he's local.

I don't think so... By the time that the video was taken, a John de Lancie panel was about to take place (there was a huge line for it), and if that was actually John de Lance, he would have been swarmed. Convention guests generally travel with con security through the bowels of the convention center anyway. John de Lance has a beard (and did at the convention); that cosplayer didn't. Plus, I had confirmation from that cosplayer at the Maryland Renaissance festival.

What i ask myself is how does a father taking his 6 year old daughter feel about men his age dressing like her.
I mean, most bronies are in their 20s, not 30s-60s.
The 80's ponies are better.
Darker for sure. But better? Well, there are some interesting stories, I must admit. But when I was watching it, I had a huge problem with the voice acting and characters, because they acted very ... hmm.. retarded and silly. And that's too bad, because the stories were quite well-written. Also the animation was not that great, but I take it with the grain of salt, regarding the technology available in the 80's. But yeah, I must admit, it wasn't a total crap like most people say.
Bon Bon The toys were better too...I mean just look at what we have now...And also, the creator of MLP made it for both (two) genders. There were big brother ponies and then the girl ponies. But Hasbro has gone against that and made it for little girls...What's worse is the shame that male fans get. Men are shamed for liking MLP or other girl/woman things...but if it were a female liking something for males that would be seen as empowerment.
Hasbro has actually made a concerted effort to make some higher quality toys now with the Friendship is Magic Collection and especially with Guardians of Harmony (and the latter is targeted more towards males!) Plus, Lauren Faust didn't set out to made a very super-girly show, and I think that those intentions are what makes FiM so good and are the reasons for the fandom's existence.
