The music for the ident and for the whole of BBC News was composed by David Lowe and incorporated elements such as the BBC Pips, used on BBC Radio to mark the hour. This version was used during the countdown sequence shown on BBC News 24 (now known as the BBC News channel), just before the top of the hour news bulletin.
This variation of the theme tune was used for BBC World's special coverages; such as the 9/11 attacks in 2001, and the Iraqi war, as well as the last flight of the Concorde, both occurred in 2003. A similar theme music was used on "The World Today", a news program on the BBC World News Channel.

This is actually an extended close to end a bulletin or news program on BBC News 24. Usually a video montage of events for 30 secs, and fade out to the BBC News 24 Ident.
