    Rob Hubbard was the master of using ring modulation in his music. Also love how the triangle wave sounds in this.

    My friend and I played this every Wednesday at his house at lunch time during Grade 4. Never could get past the Minotaur. The message about the Dagger of Death taunted us and is forever locked into my memory. "The Dagger of Death is a special kind. When used on the Minotaur it weakens his mind."

    This was such a great game... I played this 10 years before MUDs really came out in the advent of Internet. Master of Magic was really ahead of it's time. I didn't realize at the time the vampire could be killed with the wooden dagger so easily.. but you could beat him also otherwise.

  • @Xifihas

    Killing the vampire with the wooden dagger is one of those things that only makes sense when you see it. The whole 'stake to the heart' thing never occurred to me.

    Ha. I remember this. Never could get past the vampire. I did figure out that a wooden dagger is the right kind of weapon to fight him with, but somehow he just pretty much instantly killed me every single time anyway. Then I got bored, but every once in a while I would still load it just to listen to the awesome music :)

    For years I’ve been trying to figure out what this game was. I had it when I was a kid.. never made it past the first enemy (I was like 6). The music and the walking dot was all I could remember lol.

    Maybe not the best game but defo one of the top 10 pieces of C64 music, it takes ages to loop and it sounds so good for an 80's game. It's almost like they spent 90% of the budget on the music and 10% on the game. I really liked the game though, but I never finished it.

    That was a different way of completing it from what we used to do. If you go and aggro the Minotaur and run out and up at the teleport, the Minotaur runs forward into the teleport and poof!
    You just had to hope that you did not run into him again on your way back. No need to kill anything with that tactic really =)

    What a curious little game I've never heard of, I had an Apple II growing up but C64 had some wild games.
    I was looking for let's plays of the SimTex Master of Magic game and came across this. This Master of Magic seems to be an unusual combination of dungeon crawler and text-based adventure-RPG. Pretty crazy! (Kind of an underwhelming finale though lol)

    Nothing in this game is original, though. This is basically just a colorful version of Rogue (1980). The game has the Minotaur and the Amulet of Yendor - I mean Immortality. Just with a static dungeon. And of course, Rogue is just a slightly modified copy of D&D...
    And the music is also almost an 1:1 copy of "Shibolet" by Synergy (Larry Fast), 1981. Did Rob have a permission to use it?

    • @patsfan4life
      @patsfan4life 2 роки тому +1
