    I am 79 I tried adult coloring 2 years ago and my rheumatoid disease was so bad in my wrists and hands that I just could not do it. I am on different medication now and have changed my diet so I have less inflammation. I came across my books and pencils and tried again. I can do it now. I still watch how long I can do it without it bothering my hands and I can do about an hour and that is how long I can sit. I have been watching videos and learning. I have found something that makes me happy

      I'm so glad you can resume coloring and have found joy in it. Have you tried paint? It may be less strenuous. I did a recent review on my youtube channel of a fun product called Viviva colorsheets. ua-cam.com/users/truenortharts

    I'm so glad I ran into this video ....I am Heba from Egypt , I first knew Mandala from a really talented nice person here in Egypt how is the founder of Cairo coloring club ; I took a couple of courses with her and since then I believe I've found my passion ; I just love the peace and joy it gives me . I'm a little bit more fond of designing but also this coloring video made me want to color more. Definitely I'll be one of your followers and wish to join your community ..... Thanks a lot Kathryn.

    I can't believe how much I didn't know about coloring with colored pencils. You have opened my eyes, and I feel like a sponge, I just can't soak up enough. I ordered the 132 set of Presmacolor pencils and my new book to help with my stress and help get my thoughts away from acute pain. I had just taken painting lessons and painted two pictures when I got hurt and have been bedridden for the past six years. My husband is a very understanding man, but painting in bed would be a little much. Last week my facebook group started sharing coloring and how much it helps with stress. I was hooked, I did some when my grandkids were small. I bought a book for myself, and I would color with them. I can't wait for my order to arrive, I will be doing so many things differently. Thank you for your input, I will be checking in to see what's new, and reviewing what I learned. I love your attitude, I can tell you love what you do. First thing tomorrow I am going to download a few pages so I can start while I'm waiting for my order. Thank you again, you have made a very sad person happy and given me something to look forward to. Donna S.

    i bought Prismacolor pencils for adult coloring books. I found your video when doing a search on how to use them. I am so excited - your video was succinct and gave lots of good information that a beginner like me can use. I also taught math and can't wait to get out my retired (like me) compass and do some drawing. Construction was my favorite part of geometry and this just takes it to a new level! Can't wait to view more of your videos. Thanks so much!

    Thank you lovely ( nameless) lady… watching you from ITALY where I have just discovered Mandalas with books given me by a friend. I am an old lady (86) and no longer able to walk and enjoy movements so colouring Manadalas will be a great project. I just love the way you present things and have taken notes… will be back for more! Don't know if I can get Prisma colour here in Itay …. please go on with your simply wonderful work. Good luck from Paola Mirella Wright in Italy.

    I am new to coloring and you gave me some really good ideas. Only wished I would have looked you up before I bought my pencils. I learned the hard way about student and professional pencils. You just taught me how to blend and use my blending sticks. I am very thankful. Now I am trying to learn how people use eye shadows for backgrounds. I can't wait to get to Michaels and pick my needed supplies. If you have any advice on the eye shadow skill I would love to see it used by a professional. Thanks for the great tips.

    I started using coloring books and I wasn’t sure how to achieve all the nice colors. I went through several Utube videos and didn’t come away knowing much. However I came across your video and was very impressed how you took the time to explain and show how to do things without rushing through it. After viewing this video I realized that it is easy because of the way you taught it. I have a better knowledge of how to color mandalas and from now on will use 100 Mandalas as a point of reference.
    That was a great video and thanks for teaching it.

    Awesome!!! Can't wait to download the two different 100 Mandalas. Thank you so much for what you have taught on this video. I didn't realize there was an odorous medium liquid for blending. I am a brand new baby to Adult Colouring but I am already addicted to it. I have been watching a lot of tutorials and videos on the many mediums I can to use to colour with, as well as learning about the different paper to colour on. Our daughter -in love and our son bought me the Lost Ocean....An Inky Adventure & Colouring Book by Johanna Basford as a Christmas Gift, they had no idea I have been wanting to try Adult Colouring but because it is so popular on UA-cam and Facebook, our Daughter thought I would like it. Thank you for the info on coloring. I enjoyed it and learned so much from your video, especially the blending techniques. It's hard to find materials that you use in your videos. I live in New Zealand & most of the products used in most american videos (arts & craft) are either not sold here or they are very very expensive to buy (if they have them) in our stores. Using Ebay or Amazon, is probably a great way to buy things from, but I get put off buying there because of the shipping cost. For instance, a 72 pack of prismocolor pencils cost $150 where I live..that is something I cannot afford..though they look so great when using them, especially with blending & all. Maybe one day I will pay that much if I want my work to look as wonderful as yours.

      100Mandalas Thanks so much for the website, I spent an hour or so looking through it last night and found it very useful. I have stumbled on a few small products from it to purchase & I am thinking of buying a set of prismocolor pencils when I save up for them. I am using the basic Faber-Castell classics & staedtler luna watercolor set at the moment (which are affordable) and have just recently started the colouring trend for a few months now & have now taken it seriously, which means I need to use quality pencils I guess lol..I love it! Thank you once again for the website & reply. Have a great day :)

    I've recently gotten a full set of Prismacolor scholar pencils, and I find that using them almost feels more like painting in slow, controllable motion. I also picked up a couple of colorless blending pencils, a liquid blending pen specifically for pencils, and some eraser pens. I'm finding each has its strong points, and I'm really enjoying using them all. I'll have to look at gamsol- is it the same as odorless paint thinner?
    Ahhh, so much to learn, and what fun learning! Thank you for your video, it's helped me think about what I'm doing and why!

      +Dee Binggeli Absolutely! There's room for ALL of us to learn and share and help each other! I may do a video about what I'm using and what I'm learning, but until then...
      I'm using Prismacolor Colorless Blending Pencil. The number is PC1077, and I got two in a pack from Amazon.
      I'm also using the Artist's Loft Colored Pencil Blender, which I bought at Michaels Crafts. I think you can probably find something similar on ebay or amazon.
      The erasers are Pentel Clic Eraser ZE22. I saw a pack of I think 3 at Walmart, and I'm sure you can find them online.
      I'm also using the black oval Prismacolor eraser from blending and lifting color, but it's so old all the writing has worn off. I still love it, though!
      I hope this helps you!

    Thank you so much for sharing all these great tips! Amazing tutorial and so easy to follow :-)
    I wanted to add that you could also use Isopropyl Alcohol, 90% or higher. It is so smooth, and the alcohol content is so high that it evaporates almost instantly after your done blending. It won't damage, pill, or buckle your paper, and it has sort of a rich watercolor look to it. And it blends colors beautifully. Great for beginners too :-)

      +Elizabeth Clothier Thanks for the tip. I'll have to try it! Not crazy about the alcohol smell but I can certainly get over it quickly if the results are beautiful.

    Will the Gamsol cause inkjet ink to run even on card stock? Very good video!

    • @TrueNorthArts
      @TrueNorthArts  8 років тому +1

      Good question. I believe it will smear the inkjet ink as it is applied by spraying the ink onto the paper unlike laser printers that use heat or thermal technology to apply the ink. One way to know for sure is to try it. :)

    Superb video..loved the way you have explained so well..Just two small questions..
    (1) Can I use Gamsol on Faber castell aquarell pencils? They are water colour pencils.
    (2) I couldn't find Gamsol in India. Can I use distilled turpentine instead? It's sold at my local art-craft shop.

    • @TrueNorthArts
      @TrueNorthArts  9 років тому

      +Vikram S Watercolor pencils are not made of the same waxy content as colored pencils. Use water to blend with watercolor pencils. Yes, you could use turpentine. Be sure to have a well ventilated area when you work with turpentine as it has a strong odor and it isn't healthy to inhale. I would definitely use it sparingly.

    Howdy! I'm a kid looking to improve my skill in paper art (which is terrible; I do digital art). Right now, I only have Crayola erasable colored pencils, and I am wondering if your blending techniques would work for my type of pencil. It has a... Waxy feel on the paper btw.

    • @TrueNorthArts
      @TrueNorthArts  8 років тому

      I'm not sure as I haven't worked with those pencils. Give it a go. The best way to get good is to practice, practice, practice. I drew many of the illustrations found in my book as many as six times until I got it the way I liked them. I love creating on the computer (Photoshop is the bomb) but drawing my own mandalas brings so much joy. Have fun exploring and experimenting!

    • @TrueNorthArts

      +Aimi Ai some people use baby oil. I would caution you, to only use a very little amount as it can make your artwork really oily and greasy. A very little amount goes a long way. I also suggest you do some research. There is a wealth of information on the internet. Good luck!

But the thing is I don't know how to even ask for it at a store? I've been browsing the Internet to see what it's called in Spanish but no result! Any idea? You think if I just ask for Gamsol they'll get it? Thanks!

    Is there a beneficial side to adult coloring books and specifically mandalas ?

    • @TrueNorthArts
      @TrueNorthArts  8 років тому

      There is a calming effect in coloring mandalas. The repeating patterns and feeling of centering and wholeness within the circle contribute to this feeling of well-being. I find unplugging from the computer and social media to create and color mandalas to be very relaxing. It is also a great way to take a break from focusing on the stresses and demands of life. It is also fun to see the design come to life when color is added.

    I know this might be a weird question, but do you happen to know the official meaning of each color for the mandalas? Such as red stands for --- on the mandala. I've been looking everywhere and their have been no answers yet. I would appreciate any help that you could give me.

    • @TrueNorthArts

      Use Gamsol in well ventilated area. I use very little and truly find that using good quality pencils blend well without it. Baby oil tends ti be on the greasy side so using sparingly.

    • @TrueNorthArts
      @TrueNorthArts  6 років тому +1

      LOL ;) Well, at least I know I'm 'in the zone' if I made that comment... my 'day job' is that of a doctor (family/Hospice medicine) and scientist. I have ordered some Prismacolor pencils.
