Yeah, I took it as a different cut - the 17 day version - of BM. The thing about getting lost even when you're 50 feet away in a whiteout is an important lesson to learn for a lot of situations, eg bushingwhacking when hiking kinda stuff.

If you go to Burning Man and say "yes" to everything, you will go home with several STD's, heart palpitations from all the drugs, and probably some broken bones (assuming you didn't die, of course). So yeah....there's nothing wrong with being a "NO" girl. To be honest, more people should learn to say "NO" to a lot of things, and not feel pressured to submit.

Been to BM 16 times since 1995. I was neck deep in "participation" and saying YES. Never caught an STI, and my body count surely exceeds over a hundred from all these years. Not bad considering most sex occurs before Thursday, bc the vast majority don't have showers in their camp, and people get a lil funky down below as the week goes on. No problem with saying yes to most drugs back in the day.....BUT now.... no way. Fentanyl & Benzo tranquilizers are in tons of the drug supply now. Scary....especially in 2022. No one should ever say yes to anything that hasn't been tested and from someone you trust. Have a feeling there's gonna be an inordinate amount of ODs this year.

One thing that helped me on my second Burn was someone offered me Emergen-C and my mood instantly improved. I'm a Yes person who got turned into a No person by just chemical deficiency sometimes on the playa. Likely, it's part of what happened to you. Electrolytes help you think clearly (to whit, electrical signals transmit properly), and, when they go, you can easily get stubborn and annoyed and angry over slights, real and imagined, and, if you're there for that long, it must have added up. I've been 11 burns and those powders, especially those with caffeine in them, improved my mood every time, usually within minutes.

I noticed a lot of people don't thoroughly listen/read things properly before responding and don't bother to learn/think about what kind of environment one was raised in which shapes their personality a lot. Goes to show who these people really are.
The video helped me understand and think about the things that can/will happen at Burning Man. I've thought about going from time to time, but didn't want to spend much time educating myself on the event due to personal things that prevented me from going. Sharing this experience for us is something I can appreciate as someone in need of info. And it helps people who are just starting to explore with their new freedom after they've been overprotected for so long by parents or other reasons, whatever has been tying them down. It's only natural they'd be cautious. So for people like them who wanna get out and have fun, but want to hear the experience from a no girl's perspective, it's very helpful and would actually help people reconsider going that are too much of a hermit and get people to be more interested in going that don't give a crap about the sand, getting dirty, and want to socialize and connect with new people in fun, even spontaneous ways.
If someone has a problem with someone being in charge of their own body, their own life they care about, that's their problem. It's good to see you also appreciate this video through all the negativity in the comment section.
For anyone reading this, I just want to end this by saying that if you want something to turn out positive, do your part in making that happen. Peace. :)

What makes you think the dislikes came from people who Assume the title was talking about sex? When I heard her say she was saying no to - bike rides or walks or to see some event , she said no. That is when I became disappointed in her. I have seen other Burning Man vids, and this one was ok, not great by any means. That might be why there are so many dislikes. Sorry.

It is crazy at how pissed people get over this video. You can tell they are not burners. They think it is a drug filled orgy. It can be if that is what you look for but it can be what ever you want it to be. What you choose to do dictates your experience. For many it is a spiritual adventure with yoga, meditation or self reflection. Other are running are there for the ultra marathon. One year my goal was finding random places to take naps. It was great! Napped in giant praying Mantis, hammock camp, on a random couch at Cosmic Giggle. I awoke at about 4 AM by a gorilla that had nicely pulled the pillow out from under my head and sat it gently on top of my head. I look around to see about 20 people in gorilla suites doing random nonsense like very nicely tipping over someone in a chair while another took someones beer and cigarette and danced around the fire and then returned them. Then all 20 gathered back in the middle of the road very quietly moving on. It was a highlight for me that year since it was so random and could only happen at burning man. Best of luck to you trying to explain the unexplainable to overly judgmental.

I used to want to go to Burning Man soooooo bad, but after spending about five years going to local burns, I got "burned" out, lol. But I like the idea of going as a "no girl". You're responsible for your own experience, and if the experience you want to have is lying around in your tent the whole time, do it! No shame! I've had burns where I just sat at camp and did nothing, and they were great. I think I just got to a point where I was around the same people all the time and our local burns got really insular and predictable, and as a tee-totaling sober person, I didn't enjoy hanging out with a bunch of people high out of their minds. I think it could be fun to go to the Big Burn and camp with a bunch of intentionally sober people and just do nothing. :)

Awesome video!! I SO want to go but don't know anyone who's been so have no idea how to prepare!! How do you know what to bring to give and be able to have enough to get by for the whole week?? Can you tent camp? The whole spiritual aspect of it and community feel to operate how I picture the future world to operate is so profound and intriguing to me, but the amount of time needed to take off and having NO idea how to prepare has kept me from going !

Would have loved to have heard more about being a "No girl". I was at Burning Man last year (2016) and one thing that bugged me was what I was calling "The Tyranny of the Hug". I'd meet new people and offer my hand for a handshake, and people would look at me like "C'mon, dude... a HANDSHAKE?!? This is BURNING MAN - we don't SHAKE HANDS here!" and then they'd go in for the hug. I wound up giving in, but still, the fact that you're sort of *expected* to hug everyone bugged the shit out of me.
For the first few days, anyway. Then I was ok with it.

The Organization does not set up free bars. The campers (participants) do. The organization sells (at no profit) ice and coffee. I assume the coffee is for campers without kitchens. Some people fly in from all over the world with little more than a tent and a cooler. Also, the Tent where the coffee is sold is a large community meeting place with a stage for people to sign up and gift their talent to the community.

I loved your description of Burning Man; you emphasized ALL of the same points which I do when I'm trying to describe the event, with one, or maybe two, exceptions, which I feel sure was a mere oversight. (1) There is no advertising of any kind allowed at the event. "Oh, really?" one might ask. "Who would stop me if I wanted to fly a banner advertising my cool laser light show kits, sure to make any outdoor music event all that much more fun?" (2) The event is self-policed by a large group of volunteers called "Rangers". Like the rest of Burning Man, the Rangers are extremely organized, working in pairs, working in shifts, and if a Ranger were to see an advertising banner, she would surely come and ask you to take it down or to leave the event. The Rangers also, as much as is possible, try to act as intermediaries between actual law enforcement, which is present at the event both federally and by three local Sheriff departments, and actual event attendees.
I suppose it would also be a miscalculation, at this point, not to mention the fine volunteers of the DPW (the Department of Public Works), who, although generally feeling a bit over-entitled, actually build Black Rock City. (So I guess that's 3 things. Now that I say this, I feel it was probably less of an oversight and more of a feeling of needing to draw the line somewhere, right?)

Before the days of Burning Man selling out instantly I'd of said cool, do whatever or nothing. The only problem with that is that about 250,000 people try to buy the 60,000 tickets available. If you just want to relax, why not go camping next a lake in a forest? (No dust storms!) Why take a sought out spot if you don't want to get out and experience the city, the art, the dancing and the activities? One afternoon in Deep Playa does not even scratch the surface of all the art and activities that are out there. If you just want to chill in your yurt, you can go anywhere.

That was really good. You only have a minor case of the 'like' speech virus, so you can probably be cured. Thank you for the info.

How were the foam yurts for camping in? Were you able to shower occasionally? Bring your own food? Nice & easy to listen to. Easy to look at, too.

Why the fuck do you just drop in that a man died in front of thousands of people like it was NOTHING...?! That's fucked up!

If you get a crowd of 70,000 over two weeks its statistically guaranteed that someone will die.

Steve - That's not actually true for something like Burning Man because it isn't a representative sample (ie, the very old, sick, and infirm wouldn't attend such an event). So the likelihood of a death in 70,000 burners is actually lower than 70,000 in the general population.

Because that man did not either 1) know his substance 2) know himself 3) know his sitter or 4) didn't have one. Or, he actually wanted to die there.
A while back, a dude walked into a lake, was unable to swim, and people shot video of him drowning. Lots of people had criticism for the watchers . . . but god damn it people, don't stop evolution.

I've never heard of Burning Man before this video and I'm still not sure I understand it. I'm also not sure why anyone would want to go there.

I really found your video to be informative and entertaining. I am hoping to be part of media for this year's Burning Man. Any suggestions you may have would be very appreciated. My main interest is to explore how accessible Burning Man is. I am going into this without any prior plan, no network of Burning Man friends, no planned transportation yet. Nothing. How easy would it be for me to join in starting from virtually zero?
