In this video I go where no man has boldly gone before and few will feel the need to go after. I rip, tear, and slice open a Boveda 72% Humidity Pack to find out what's inside.

It's interesting how this gel-like substance keeps our cigars fresh and ready to smoke. I don't think that work as well as we believe they do though. I've had some cigars that get uneven humidity. Some cigars were perfect when I first lit them but then wouldn't stay lit and some were hard to light but were perfectly fine towards the end. I believe that Boveda needs to spend some money on Research and Development to figure out how to make it work better.
We as consumers believe that these packs work perfectly, when the truth is that they do not. Boveda does an excellent job telling us how great the product is, but it can definitely use some improvement.
This video just shows us what's inside. Nothing more. Nothing less.

I got so high that I ripped open my pack on receiving it cuz I thought it was inside the pack..
I just did the same thing thinking you had to open it. Now I'm reconsidering my life choices.

Experiment with a mixture of common table salt, cane sugar and gelatin (synthetic or natural) and distilled water for the same effect. Use a plastic container instead of trying to recreate the packaging of Boveda.
When done well, it works exactly the same as Boveda packs. Absorbs moisture when too humid and releases moisture when too dry.
Test your concoctions just like you would when calibrating a hygrometer and when you find the "magic" ratio of salt, sugar and gelatin for your needs, write it down and start using it. (smile)
LOTS cheaper than Boveda and works JUST as well!
What’s the sugar for
@@ablazecustom3169 Salt alone will result in a humidity stabilization of about 75% humidity. So you have to use something to lower that to about 70% for the most part. I don't remember what the humidity stabilization of sugar is, but it is lower than salt.
So, I used sugar to stabilize a salt solution to approximately 69-70%.
It's been working just fine for me for several years. The only thing I have to do is add distilled water from time to time and stir the mix when I do.

p.s. Although I always meant to try using gelatin to make the mixture more stable, I never have tried it since it works quite well without it and costs exponentially less than Boveda!

I'm using it for my classical guitar，hope it works.In Beijing the humidity always lower than 20，air conditioner not help at all.

@@bpowersman5000 Nope. Just salt, water, and probably xanthan gum to gel it together. The chunks are salt that didn't dissolve completely.
