I grew up having those original Samsonite gears, but had never otherwise seen any of them in the wild, or even on UA-cam. And then last summer I found one of the big red gears on a bulk table-which was weird because nothing else on the table or in the store was anywhere near that old. And now I get to see the [nearly] whole set, complete with box insert! Very cool! 40 years without ever encountering them, and then twice in one year.

6890 was the set that introduced that hinged roof piece. I think the version used in Town cars, with a 1x4x2 support under it might’ve come a year earlier? But having a 1x4 plate to anchor it was new. I remember seeing it in the catalog and trying to copy it with hinge bricks (all we had at the time), and being blown away with how cool that new piece was when we later got the set. The possibilities!

Set 114 was a Christmas gift to my brother & I in 1977. We still have it & I just purchased another.
There is a complete set 001 at Prairie Bricks in Moorhead, MN. They now have 820 unique sets in stock.

I like that when looking at the 1984 King's Castle set, when you said "that's little Mark," Mark happened to be in almost the exact pose as the kid you were talking about. Also, set 6367 which was shone as one of the youngest sets on the list ("Stunt Chopper and Truck" I think it was called) was one of my favorites as a kid. I took the woman's head from the pirates sets, put it on the truck driver fig and called her "Sam." Unfortunately, I didn't keep the box.

I should have a ton if the castle Lego sets, I played a lot with those as a kid. To save space, I threw out the inner boxes and flattened the outer boxes in a big stack. Good times.

I got them as part of a big lot of Legos from a friend as a kid in the early 90's for $15-30. Was a hell of a deal even then! Still have all my Legos to this day and would like to find a young kid that really likes to build here in Florida to just give them to. 😅

@@megamanx466 If you got the boxes and all the parts, it might be worth it to sell them to an actual collector. I know that Istill have all the manuals in absolute mint condition. I would love to see those go to a collector.

I had the gears and remember the box -- unfortunately a new stepfather "lost" most of them as well as a lot of tracks and such when we moved to his house :-(

I didnt realize the bricks I had from my mother with those proto figures were so old, among the earliest then; too bad I dont have the boxes to identify them... Aniway I laughed about the small rocket used for "research"; after all in some way, the atlas missiles were early base models for the saturn 5 if I remember.

Fun video, but you have so many factually wrong statements it's mind numbing. A little basic research would do you a world of good. #6060 is from 1989 and #483 is from 1978. The shear number of patently wrong statements about the Samsonite sets is staggering. You'd be better off getting Gary Istok's guide before making an other video where you spout off similar garage about them.
