    This is exactly how solar should be utilized, on top of useless space like roofs, not tearing down hundreds of acres of pristine woods like in corrupt Rhode Island.

    The fan motor needs a capacitor if it runs fine once up to speed. The capacitor gives the motor the extra juice it needs to start up.

    Your solar project is sure exciting! It will be very interesting to see how much it impacts your yearly costs for electricity. You are smart replacing all of the screws on the roof before installing the panels. And you are right. There is nothing like the sweet smell of a summer rain. Especially when you are depending on that rain to finish your crops so you can feed the cows all winter. May the Lord continue to bless you and your family!

    Good call on replacing the screws now before the panels go on. WAY harder after. Hopefully those panels will pay for themselves in short order. I love it when you do a project... which is funny because I love it when you just show the normal daily tasks too. Have a great week!

    Looks like a very interesting project. What I am going to suggest is going to be low on your list of projects. If you clean the fans they will work better not only with the amount of strain on the motor but they will blow and cool the cows better. Same for a fan that would be in your house and got super dusty. Thanks for the video.

    • @carolynrose753

      Add a dust the fans to the weekly job list. Micro fiber mop on a long handle should do the trick. I guess they get dusty with the sawdust addition to the bedding.

    There's a couple of big solar installations down here near us, one at a private school and another at what used to be a dairy farm where they also raise turkeys. The panels are on the turkey shed with a couple of freestanding panel rows in front of that. I understand that they generate more power than the farm uses but I don't know for sure. The school arrays put out 60% of what the school uses but of course they are a much more energy-intensive operation.

    Hi Eric, the solar panels are coming alone quickly and soon you will have your own electricity. You have adapted you skills to fix most things on the farm which saves time and money. I see the rain is still patchy which is a pain when you want to grow crops. I hope the weather changes and you can put the cowes outside on grass. Great videos. Chris from Australia 🇦🇺.

  • @Heckleburger
    @Heckleburger 10 місяців тому +3

    Bad capacitor is most likely on the motor, once that happens it will run but won't start on it's own. Yes with the solar it is DC that uses an inverter to turn it into AC to push back into the grid. With a grid-tie system once the power goes out it will cut power to the grid so the solar doesn't harm lineman unless you get an off-grid system with batteries then you'll still have power for as long as it can lasts. Great for your house, some lights for the cows, and the well but that's about it.

    theres a starter capacitor mounted to the side of that fan motor that has gone bad, 2 screws and most likely 4 push on connectors for it, takes about 5mins to change. the numbers for the capacitor are on the side of it. you should be able to get it at any industrial supply place like grainger or equal, prolly less than 15 bucks. just make sure to ground the capacitor b4 u touch the wires, it will tickle a little if you dont

    It is so cool you get so many panels like that. It seems like a no brainer down here in Arizona but there's not a huge number of houses with solar.

Hope you still had the original truss design forms that showed the loads and an engineered drawings with the panels. Make sure it is inspected by your county. • @timothymbonham4453
      @timothymbonham4453 10 місяців тому

      Probably not. That type needs batteries and more complicated electronics to generate AC frequency, automatic isolation cut-off switch, etc. Much more expensive.
      His sound like the ones I put on my house; they need the grid power to synchronize frequency and so forth. So when grid power goes out, the solar panels can't work either. But if your grid power is reliable, it's a much smaller investment.

    Just had a solar provider asking us for panel install, but the cost in relation to what kind of return is horrible. The area on our roof is so small that we would never make enough power to offset the cost of the install and pay off. The people that own the house have actually lived off the grid on solar and frankly they almost died, the number of panels required to completely live on solar was so costly it negated living off the grid. In Canada we get ripped off.

    we're a bit south of you and the electric company won't let farms hook to the grid because too many have.. makes sense right? anyway there has been a delay of about 36 months now and no one can hook up. One thing you can do is use a heat pump mini split during the day to get the heat up in your place and it will reduce your need overnight.. same with cooling. ... figure out if the price you get selling it back is the same or less than what you have to buy it for over night and then if it is do everything during the day you can and bump up your heat or cooling before your system goes off for the night.. A mini split can really help with that and they have ones with 4 indoor units that connect to only one outdoor unit... I am not saying you should do this.. I am saying you should look into it if they pay you less for the power you give and charge you more for the power you buy.
