Memories for sure🙏 I worked as a station assistant at Muswellbrook station nsw 1966/67 and the signalman on nightshift often gave me the staff to exchange for him. The only worry was when it was with the fireman on a steam loco .. not many, but still a few. My favourite job was on the railways. Wish I'd stayed on until retirement ..
44220 (15:01) is still going strong with SSR, was at Parkes NSW a few months back. The "candy" colours never lasted long on the 442 class, faded very quickly and usually covered with ALCO emissions. Great video, thanks for posting.
19:52 It is confusing when what is clearly an interstate Brisbane to Sydney National Rail superfreighter service getting tagged as a Newcastle service albeit considering that services just like it are crewed by single or double 81 class locos. That will end when 86 class electric working from to and from Broadmeadow Depot is abolished in favor of through working when National Rail crewing begins on the Sydney-Brisbane corridor on July 25 1994 or a few days following that. The Candy and Freight Rail Blue 81 class started working this route from June using SRA drivers apparently. There were also National Rail Seatrain landbridge services that started from Port Botany to Acacia Ridge in June 1994 with none of the SPD/TNT stuff unless it was picked up and attached at the TNT Contrans depot at Sydenham near Marrickville.
Just a little correction, the opening script says The Main North. It’s actually the North Coast Line, whereas The Main North went up up through the Northern Tablelands to Wallangarra. 😉
Yes, auto exchanging was discontinued late 86 or early 87. Loco instruments weren’t being calibrated so they became more like catapults. Actually have some photos of NL1 auto-exchanging at the risk in mid 86.
That was fantastic . My old box in the 70's , The Risk . Brought back a lot of great memories
Very pleasing to hear.
Great name for a railway station.
Memories for sure🙏

Beauty ! I have adjusted the intro.
One question I forgot to ask . I noticed they were only hand exchanging . Was the auto exchanger no longer used ?.
to the best of my knowledge that was discontinued long before the film was taken.
@@nswrailvideos7113 thanks . I was wondering. Film was 16 years after I transferred to Lithgow Loco
