as someone who owns both, I disagree. MPC stock sounds are fucking PRISTINE. they sound like they are all perfectly pre-mixed for you.
Maschine has just.. THOUSANDS and THOUSANDS of sounds and better synths that you can mess with, but atleast the samples on MPC just sounds incredible and fit in the mix just like that.

Funny I sold my Maschine studio right when the Push 2 came out and I bought the Maschine mk3 last year to get back into it and I’ve done a few tracks but haven’t finished any of them in that year. Push 2 and Ableton and komplete kontrol is just the sweet spot for me. I recently started forcing myself to use maschine because it is fun but I feel you man, the song mode is just not there yet even with the updates. I hate having to think too much while I’m creating. If I get a stand alone it would be an MPC for sure

NI banned me from their forum the other day as they couldn't take constructive criticism. That alone is enough to make me want to drop the KKMK2, Maschine MK3, and Jam. Invested thousands into their ecosystem. Waited patiently for years on end for them to get it together, but wasn't going to happen.
Can't even record mutes on Maschine. No PDC. No track freeze/unfreeze. No aftertouch or transport in KKMK2 when you assign it to a Maschine instance. No split/merge of patterns. Piss-poor DAW integration. No probability ala Elektron or MPC. No control voltage tools. Utterly pathetic Maschine+. Terrible rollout of updates recently in terms of sticking to release dates given to the public. Broken promises with the Jam. Kore. Bodged Massive X launch. I could go on for hours.
That's without getting into durability issues (screen problems galore, had to have KKMK2 and Maschine MK3 replaced repeatedly by NI), and the worst support I've ever encountered in audio. Overpriced toys. A shadow of their former selves. No longer innovative, just resting on their laurels, and have let go of most of their worthwhile talent, but good to see their talent landed on its feet with the likes of Rhizomatic Plasmonic (chap behind Absynth) and New Sonic Arts (dude behind Kore).

Akai as a company and insound are wiping the floor with NI when it comes to user feedback and implementation. The new mpc keys looks astounding. akai is a behemoth compared to N.I.
their foray into hardware was funded by their years as a software innovator. when the vst market become saturated, their company suffered, margins were lower when competition caught up, now they have severely downsized and went through major restructuring. ua-cam.com/video/wRLx7ns8CAs/v-deo.html simply is incorrect. they have a large range of products, but that doesn't mean they have akai resources. that asymmetry is a problem.

You may not rag on NI but I'll gladly do it. They were one of the most diverse companies when it came to every facet in the game but it got to a point where they decided to put all their eggs in 1 basket & neglect everything else. They had all these folks invest in hardware but let the software grow outdated and antiquated and it's not just their music production division. Their DJ software Traktor was arguably the Industry Standard at one point but then just stopped updating which allowed the competition to catch up &; eventually surpass them. Odd thing is, many a company have offered to buy it from them and take it off their hands & build it back up but turned them down. Seems as if they're content to let it wither away into obscurity. Meanwhile InMusic, who owns Akai, Denon DJ, Numark, Alesis, Rane etc are doing the complete opposite. They take the consumer's feedback into consideration, implement & update accordingly with revolutionary game changing hardware to boot.

I did notice yesterday watching playdifferently / the model 1 and 1.4 mixer vids that alot of their dj´s were using traktor again. The fact that they are not willing to sell it and bring out hardware for it means ni still have plans for it. I remember when i got my mk2 maschine i got a question form from ni where they asked how to best implement maschine into traktor. My idea was having a deck that showed the scenes or patterns with a small midi view, and the option to Quickly change a sound (keep the pattern but change the snare for example). Anyway when they get maschine integration on point in traktor so we don't need to run 2 programs,it will be awesome and continue to blur the lines between djing, production and on the fly producing wich is the future imo. All dj´s could play the same song but have their own remixed version of it. Would be so awesome.

If NI doesn't care about their own gear then why would they hold out for another company that they have no affiliation with? At the DJ Expo a few weeks back, every manufacturer had all their latest & greatest on display with teasers of what's to come. At the NI booth they had a bunch of hardware all of which were all 4 years old & older. Sounds like Akai for almost a decade 😂 Not trying to defend NI i think this video comes down more to preference in hardware. I still use Maschine Studio as long NI keeps updating the software theres really no issue it all comes down to the producer how he masters his hardware. I used to own Akai Mpc 2000 2000xl & 5000, i loved them all! but Akai has had its issues over the years as well BIG TIME! during 2013-2019 Akai had all sorts of bug issues. I bought Akai Mpk249 and again bug issues with no integration of software wich was odd. Akai midi Software and Expansions were a joke. Akai abandon every midi controller and because they knew there controllers were outdated and outclassed by NI.

I went from Reason to the MPC Reinassance (before the updated daw), Native Instruments, Studio One, etc. I didn't realize how much I needed a stand-alone unit until I got the MPC One. ALL he said was 100% true. I championed for maschine almost from the start. I’ve actually owned about 3 different maschines through the years. But the lack of ‘easy of use’ for some of the most simplest features/unappealing updates and no mp3 support STILL, really killed it for me. I grab an MPC studio and found it did everything I wanted to do in the most simple streamline way. And I’ve never even use a MPC back in the day. So when the prices on the ‘X’ finally came down I had to jump on it. I still use kontakt and One or two of their other plugins which made me buy an S49. Otherwise I pretty much moved on from native instruments. It’s has been difficult trying to sell all this old native instrument stuff. But I’m much happier now more then ever!!!

I’m in the process of switching myself. However, it’s for only one reason that you mention it’s the updates and the fact that MPC seems to cater to our culture. I completely disagree with your Ranger comment Native Instruments has made huge strides in their most recent updates in the arranger is now pretty nice if you get in there and learn it. In some cases I feel like you are speaking from an old native instrument users point of view which is OK however many things have been updated. That said I do agree that MPC allows you to Dial things in just a bit further. In reality I don’t think either one of these platforms is better than the other it simply comes down to preference as you said at the beginning of the video. Thanks for the video great perspective.

At this point both platforms do just about everything you'll ever need, but take a different approach which can cause confusion/frustration depending on which way you look at it.... At the end of the day, every company has their ups and downs in a competitive market. He said it himself.. When Maschine first came out, It was putting Akai in a bad spot with all of the functionality etc etc. It took Akai years to get their tech together and then came out with stronger offerings that were up to snuff with Maschine, changing it to "which workflow you like better". Just recently they made some updates that have probably put NI on their toes again.. and now NI will work on things from their end to up the ante again. Given the recent mergers/partnerships formed with companies like Izotope and others, we could see some mind blowing stuff from NI soon.

I even bought the studio day one when that came out. Imo once Maschine 2.x came out NIs priorities changes with Maschine. They were more concerned with selling sound packs and adding needed features into the software. They do trickle in features but sometimes it’s too little to late. I moved to the MPC Live about 4 years ago and the difference between version 2.2 and the recent 2.11 is night and day. It all depends on how you like to create. The features and functions of NI/MPC are so similar its pulling hairs to try and say its a feature/function issue. There are some things that NI can do much more efficiently than MPC, and some things MPC does more efficiently than NI... but there are very few things either option simply can't do that the other one does. For me, it was ideas mode and the ability to hyper efficiently test out different combinations of ideas that really got me hooked with NI over MPC. The thing is NI didn't had any history, so they could create Maschine from a very new fresh eye. And they did it first, so they were well ahead of the curve. Akai did have a 20+ years history, with a lot of customers that know their MPC fully, to use them even with closed eyes. So Akai had to work around and make sure they keep a similar workflow. And it was penalising them for innovations and therefore they had to go step by step and play catch up with Maschine. But since Akai is a huge company with a lot of knowledge, they did work very hard. And couple of versions later, they now have a very robust system, that not only caught up with NI, but can also finally have their own innovations and specificities. And it's NI that is struggling a little bit because we now their big next step (full audio recording) is a big step and they probably can't make it very easily. They might also need to proceed step by step here. So in the end of the day, it doesn't matter if you're using NI Maschine, Akai MPC or even Ableton Push 2, etc... just use what the hell you like and what works best for you and your workflow. That's all that matters.... same with the DAW: Logic, Cubase, Protools, FL Studio, Ableton, Studio One, Reaper, you name it... just use what you like and works for you. There's no bad choice and anyone can make world wide platinum hits on any platform of your choice. I messed with MPC in the past and I used Maschine version 1. And now I like Maschine environment better... but I really hope they would come with a 8x8 pads Maschine and with an update to have full audio recording... So until then, I will just not buy anything and just wait. I can already do plenty with my old rig on my new laptop... oh yeah, Mac, PC, same thing, just use whatever you like best. Both could be great. What works for one person might not work for someone else... it's not a big deal to not use the exact same rig of your favorite artist/producer.

One thing about Music Equipment is that build quality is somewhere between " Conspiracy" i used almost every DAW and tried many HW instruments and MIDI controllers and as an Artist i will be Honest, as long you have motivation and you have work flow that's translate inspiration to Music then you are OK . MK3 is amazing but same can be said for any AKAI but then there are many downgrades and Mouse is most important and best music tool , Maschine MK3 is amazing Analogue Human input device maybe the best but always it's up to you. Muscle Memory? Am i so smart so i know hoe to use everything even mobile phones to make music and i started with PS1 MTV Music Generator then PS2 so after i migrate to PC i understood how it's works and it's so similar from DAW to another or MIDI controllers to HW synths everything is passing that's why make Music and don't be that one guy who doesn't know what he wants to talk about so he is asking for next subject to make his YT history while he is sitting in front of expensive studio gear . Life is Beautiful and music producers were selling equipment and buying Computers and software, looking for best MIDI controller but there is no such product that is resistant to dust, hard and fast moving parts, everything is half solution that is working if you like making music and that's that simple. Life is Beautiful
