You made it look easy to build. Hope you get lots of use out of it. There are extra dies on my Etsy store. I think I'm going to add 1018 steel die blanks too. I don't think we need 4140 dies for everything we want to use the guillotine for. 1018 would be a lot less costly.
Deck us all with Boston Charlie. . . . Hey Yamez! Haven't had time to check out your live feeds. Or Ting Ting's. Holiday stuff and all. You have a good holiday. Definitely eat too much. See everyone when things settle.
Every smith needs one of these lil dudes they are so handy,I made my own and made some round dies butcher dies and flat dies, just used mild steel. Its such a awesome tool.NIce tool yeah put together next time yeah build something move that heat around more and think about 45* bevels....
Critique: He should have used button tacks before continuous welding but he lucked out because it didn't pull apparently. If he had, after tacking, he could have laid it flat to weld and gotten much better penetration. He should have v-grooved all the welded edges. If he wasn't using E6011, he should have. The amperage was set way too low. That's why he got a dog poo weld.
E6011 is a great rod for flat, vertical and overhead. It has good strength and penetration. With the thickness of the stock, 6011 at 75 amps would have given an acceptable appearing and very strong bond. E6013 is pretty much a rod for flat welding and it gives a good appearance if the heat is correct. For what you were doing, you definitely should have had the heat a bit higher but 6013 is a challenging rod for vertical. You did a much better job vertical with 6013 at 75 amps than I ever could have. That's why I have a big fat grinder.
Hey yamez A lot of welding. Turned out well. Good to make tools on ur own The copper looks good on ur chest. Keep up the good work. Happy holidays. Greetings
Loked and subscribed . Checked out your live stream yesterday evening. I like your projects. There not from the viking age but i still enjoy seeing you make things on your forge. I mainly forge medieval items on my channel. I think i may get me one of these tools here:)
A thought for saving hammer faces. Maybe add some soft/mild steel weld, to the striking surface of the dies? I really need to get in on this Etsy thing. I've been eBay so long, it's scarey
Are the dies 2" wide? I wonder how much a welder would charge to weld this if you don't have a welder. I purchased a nice swage block from buck, and I have sent 4 messages to him, but no answer???
I don't know how much a welder would charge to do it, but I do know that Uncle Bucks sells the kits pre assembled as well.and the dies are just over 1 and a half I believe...there is a link to the video by uncle bucks that he goes over the measurements.

Fun to build, will get plenty of use! Thank you

I’ll be ordering some stuff from him in the new to learn to weld for a class in school
its nice to see someone else using the old tombstone arc!

Yep, I definitely need to learn more about welding... I used 1/8 in 6013 (because that's what I have) at 75 amps...

nice Job Yamez
I'm "Like" #2 & 3.
Yeah, that Uncle Buck gots lots of good stuff.
Do your dies a flavor and get yourself one of those cheap brass hammers at Horrible Fright to use on it.
I do actually have a brass hammer... I just have to remember to use it for the dies.
@@IslandMetalForge My Lovely wife bought me one a couple of years ago for Christmas, I didn't use a brass hammer for a while, now I remember. :-)
Would a dead blow mallet work?
Hey yamez

I am really considering that
As a spacer I used duct tape...works for me.
You made the assembly look easy how ever you need to turn your heat up a little bit
Yeah it was cold in there...
