Snazzy! Great work John. Clean and crisp. The problem with commenting late is that I’m just echoing what everyone else said. Love it. Laura and I look forward to sleeping in the closet with a train going over our heads. Lol
Thanks! I really appreciate the comment. It’s been in the works for a couple years while the house was being built. Feels good seeing it come to life. Thanks for watching. -John
Looks fantastic so far, John! Great lighting, fascia, the layout room is just pleasing to the eye. Throw in your well weathered fleet and you scenery and structures and you’ve got museum quality! I agree on the keep alive’s- a real game changer.
Thanks John! I really appreciate the comment. Have been watching your videos for some ideas on scenery. It gets a little overwhelming planning all of that. All the best -John
Very impressive John! Your layout room is gorgeous, and so neat & tidy - mine has never looked like that. That switcher runs great at slow speed - love it! Can't wait to see the backdrops.
Great update, John! Your work is very precise, and you've created not only the basis for a great layout, but also a comfortable, pleasant place to spend time. Thanks for the inspiration, this has certainly provided an azimuth I'd like to follow as I prepare to start construction of my new layout in our new home.
Thanks Alex! I really wanted a comfortable space to promote work from myself lol It’s time for the fun part. If you and the family ever make a trip down this way you are always welcome. Would be great to operate with you. Congrats on the new house. It’s always fun planning a new build. All the best, John
very impressive John! the fascias and lighting look excellent. love the shelving. looks like a really cool space to work in. you're doing it right man! nice GP7. your hoppers look great all weathered up. Tremendous update, thanks :)
Nice work thus far John. I'm a dark grey or flat black Fascia and Valance guy and have been for 22 years after visiting Our War Memorial In Canberra. Seeing the way they painted their Dioramas it made the details stand out and the frame disappear.
I really like the dark fascia too... especially combined with the sky colour you picked. I haven't put down the fascia on my layout yet but I love the aesthetic you had with the last one and what you have so far here. You give me so much great inspiration 😊 looking forward to the next video! Take care.
Look at DRI line he did a similar yard width extension without changing out his benchwork. Looking great. Can't wait til you present at a podcast on the general update. Your Dmall Layouts, Big opportunities as well as FB posts have been inspiring.
John, the layout is looking awesome! The layout is going to be a lot of fun to build and operate. I can't wait to see it in person and operate on it. Tony Koester's rule for staging is n+1, with n being the number you "think" you need and always need to add one more. I added two more staging track to my removable staging cassette and it operates much better. I have 4 tracks in a 12" depth shelf and there is plenty of room. I see you have some Code 3 Collectable FD engines, I hope you got a Miami E3! That was my truck.-Tom
Thanks Tom! Not sure if the new yard will be done in time for your visit but we can operate 2 crews. I do have that engine lol and 2 ambulances from Miami. I have many more but they do not have cases
Thank you very much for the comment. I really wanted to enjoy being in the layout room so a comfortable setting was important. Thanks for watching , John
@@RailserveJohn It looks professional. When you begin this way, it will pay forward as you follow through with your evolving skill set. Have fun with it! Cheers.😁
What a relief to see a new video from you again and new track work as well. Seems like a long time! I've been purchasing a lot of kits and vehicles for my future industrial layout. Two main industries will be a three stall car repair shop and the other one is a fairly good size cement industry. I'll also have two house tracks and warehouses. Then a single track to interchange with. The local will shove the cars down and into the siding, and the day before, we had set out our cars on the main. Once the local picked up the outbound cars and is in the clear, our crew will come out and do our switch list for that day. Thanks for making my evening and probably others as well. Glad to see that 7 finally out and showing off!
Thanks Bradley! Great to hear you are moving in the right direction with the layout. The interchange adds a lot of fun operation to the layout. Cars coming in and out from the outside world without a big yard. Thanks for watching! Always appreciated. -John
John, you’ve done an excellent job on the train rooms, very professional and neat. It will be a great space to work in. I think every railroad I’ve seen but yours was the opposite, a lot of track and scenery done and none of the cars weathered, it’s a nice change and the cars look great. Looking forward to your progress.
Thanks Derek. Most of the rolling stock is from my previous layout. Although a major enjoyment in the hobby for me is weathering rolling stock and trying new techniques.
Really good update John. Very cool layout and layout room. All the displays are awesome. Looking forward to seeing how the backdrop and scenery progress. Steve.
Wow John, your layout space is so nice. I would think a medium to dark grey would look great in there for fascia, black would be too much. That Geep sounds superb. Cheers Rob
The layout is looking very nice! Not too much track to obscure future scenery. I'm curious about the Boeing Skybox. What industry will it be corresponding to?
So far you are the only one who picked up on that “Easter Egg” lol the large facility that takes coil cars will be manufacturing aircraft parts. The Skyboxes will be on lease and occasionally switched out of the facility
That really looks nice. One question, how wide is the bench work? I am getting ready to build a new layout and was thinking about 20in to 22in wide and 20ft long. Your bench work and fascias look great.
Wall hole!! O yeah!! Signals for the wall hole sounds smart if you're going to have 2 operators. Looking really good. Digging the shelves! You have some cool diecast planes. Airport on your layout?
Lol u know that day is coming soon! I already have the “explanation” video planned. Switching name to Railserve John and oh BTW, I’m no longer modeling Railserve lol
Lol I’m theory it’s is something like that. I actually grew up right near that old line. The Transload is modeled after the Conrail Assets industry in South Plainfield, the acid facility in Bound Brook and the Home Depot facility in Raritan.
Nice! That old ROW almost goes through my back yard. Based on the name and some similarities in your operation I thought it might be part of your inspiration.

Excellent craftsmanship on the build so far, very inspirational!

Looking forward to your updates and projects.

I'm going with a burnt pecan for my fascia. It is not black but more a dark brownish/orange tone of color and looks real nice.
That’s a really nice color Eric.

Hi John , Absolutely stunning train room ... lots of room to grow ... nice run by 👍😎 Darrell
Thanks Darrell! As model railroaders k think we are always looking how we can expand lol I have some ideas already lol
The layout coming along nicely.

Agreed; the Geep sounds awesome!
It looks very good. Great weathering on the cars and the GP7 looks good too. Nice FS Challenger poster.

Thanks Buddy

Thank you for following along!
Nice curves. Rarely see that. Hard thing to do. Good job
Thank you!
When are you going to modify your protothrottle? The skinny version?
Ok, now that the ribbing is out of the way, the layout looks incredible.
Lol I haven’t though of doing it with having it mounted. I like to be hands free 👐
Nice progress.
Thanks Chris
Todays treat is johns new Railserve update!

That really looks nice. One question, how wide is the bench work? I am getting ready to build a new layout and was thinking about 20in to 22in wide and 20ft long. Your bench work and fascias look great.
Thanks Larry. My benchwork is only 18in deep. The layout is up around 50in off of the floor so I didn’t want in too deep of a reach.
A also S2 would be awesome
It sure would lol love the way they sound
Wall hole!! O yeah!! Signals for the wall hole sounds smart if you're going to have 2 operators. Looking really good. Digging the shelves! You have some cool diecast planes. Airport on your layout?
Hahaha yeah man. I think I will call it “The Closet Line” lol I wish I had room for an airport. Many models lol
John at what height did you set the layout off the floor and how much space did you leave between that and the valance?
My track is 50 inches from the floor, backdrop is 24 inches tall, and the upper valance comes down 9 inches. I hope this helps!
How tall did you make your Masonite board for your fascia on the ceiling part and on the layout part if I may ask
The bottom is 7in, the top is 9in and is separated by 19in. Thanks for watching
You should crosspost this on the @Railserve John UA-cam channel!
Lol u know that day is coming soon! I already have the “explanation” video planned. Switching name to Railserve John and oh BTW, I’m no longer modeling Railserve lol
Is this in anyway based on the old Millstone and New Brunswick ROW that cuts through Somerset NJ?

@@andrewb981 oh neat! I grew up off of Elizabeth Avenue in Somerset
May I ask what color code the background blue is? Love it a lot!
I believe it’s Air Blue from Behr. I will have to double check when I am back home
@@RailserveJohn Roger thank ya! I'll wait for the true answer before I go ahead and get get for my layout.
I’m 99% sure that is it. If that color exists that is it
How did you apply the paint to the Masonite did you use any specific brand of roller or brush?
Are you using cork for base material ?
Yes I am using sheet cork for the industries and N scale road bed cork for the mainline. To keep the profile low for the branch line trackwork
Do you fly the 350?
Yes for work.
280 driver?
No CL350
Did you ever do a video of your benchwork design. I looks great
I didn’t but I think I’m a previous update I went over it a little
What is the color you used for the background
It’s a Behr color Air Blue
