When AP with speed mode is on, you can change the IAS or TAS of the AP control, touch-and-hold the square "speed", then on the right side, a ruler appears. X-Plane is advertised as a realistic simulator that sumulates the real physics. What would you say about it? Did the X-Plane 747 feel like the real one? I mean basic stuff like how the plane responds to control inputs. I played X-Plane 8 (or was it 9?) and my biggest concerns were: 1. The XML files that define plane's handling were too simple. Engine thrust was just 1 number and not something like a torque curve or something like what racing games do for car engines. 2. Top speed didn't match what the actual plane can do. Like F22 Raptor barely reaching 1.3 speeds of sound while the real one can do like double that speed. 3. Braking the sound speed barrier is suppose to take a lot of energy. In X-Plane it was seemless, there wasn't any noticable ditches in acceleration when approaching the speed of sound. This sounds like I already answered my question myself but I don't know maybe fighter jets are so badass they don't really feel that sound barrier. And maybe my F22 wasn't going 2.4 speeds of sound because I did something wrong. Or maybe they messed with supersonic jets but made everything else well.
English is not my primary language but I like the way you speaking, its easy to understand whatever you say! Thank you so much for your videos 🙏 good job 👍🏻
They should make a Harrison Ford Flight Simulator. You can fly the Falcon, Air Force 1, use a raft to jump off a plane just before it crashes into a mountain, or just land on the taxiway like a schmuck.

So the HUD was not offered as an option on the 747-8? Sounds a bit like a missed opportunity, since even the 737NG has one. I'd suspect a lot of 747 pilots would find it useful.
When I was flying PD3 (MSFS Reboot) with the Aerosoft Airbus A320 and FS Crew, You fly it with the AP controls. Super easy. All the way to the landing if you want. Flight sims really help people get acquainted with the gauges and gadgets in the cockpit. Which takes the stress out of first flight in real world. You have to have a yoke and more so, pedals. I flew MSFS from 95. Most of the time without pedals, just a joystick twist control for yaw. And it really hindered me learning to fly, especially Cessnas on landing.
Not bad for a first time landing. But it was kinda funny listening to a real 747 pilot, winging it...pardon the pun, but give him like one hour I'am sure he would have everything down, but it was still fun to see him struggling a little. 😁
Hey Kelsey,, there will be a really nice modeled 747-200 released for X-Plane really soon. I think Felis (the developer) already tried to contact you about it, I would love to see your opinion on that plane which is more seriously modeled.
So when do you actually turn on the auto pilot when flying irl? And does auto pilot actually climb and turn for you or does it just keep your heading? -asking for someone
First, really enjoy the videos. I used to live near KSNA and flew out, as a passenger, almost every week. Runway 2/20 is 5700 ft, shortest of any major airport in the country. I can't recall a 747 EVER landing there, let alone taking off. It is a "Land on the numbers and slam on the brakes" type of airport. 757 is the largest airliner regularly flown in there. The approach you flew is used about 5% of time, only when off shore or "Santa Ana" winds are blowing as is goes over Newport Beach homes. The airport has a 11 PM curfew due to the proximity to homes.
You went into pilot mode when explaining all the stuff "The... uh...". Also I imagined you shaking your head like in your viral debriefs with the landing.
XPlane, Aerofly FS2020, and Microsoft FS2021 are the most realistic flight to check out which feel the realism of interacting with botten as real life as a real Pilot than Real Flight simulator...?
Well, I'm not a pilot but since I have to fly around in the things I like to have a general idea as to how they work. Very informative, thanks. And yes I flew a 747 partway through the Grand Canyon on an older Microsoft simulator.
If you tap-hold the green writings on the bottom, then you may change it (e.g. altitude to destination... Etc). You can also have various camera angles/positions, if you tap-hold the camera symbol. (Lower left corner). 🙂
Don't discount flight simulators. I played the Microsoft FS back in the 80s then got taken up in a single engine Cessna by a friend. He let me fly the plane after takeoff for most of the hour long trip and complained that I was too focuses on the instruments and not using the windows enough. That's because the graphics on the original FS were crappy and I learned to used the artificial horizon, altimeter, air speed, compass, etc... I didn't land it of course, I had a hard time doing that on the simulator so wanted nothing to do with it in the real world.
Interesting, but in the end its always going to be limited by the hardware and in most cases there's no way an ipad/phone can run proper simulation software and most importantly allow proper input peripherals like throttles, yokes and rudder pedals. I know you have flown MSFS but ive not gotten to that video yet, id like to see you delve into MSFS properly, hopefully with some quality input peripherals and a pc capable of running it properly and would be great for you to combine it with the realtime human ATC, vatsim is one but theres another i cannot recall the name. Despite being a simmer for years im still learning the whole ATC side of things, hoping to participate in the full experience soon. I do love flying the 747 in MSFS, problem is more often than not the autopilot tries to kill me! Some say its bugged, others get it to work, be great to see if you can use the autopilot in msfs2020 in the 747!
7:05 - about "flaps 15?" I only know that on fighter jets, flaps help better control on lower speed and do help on take-off. For example on non-catapult aircraft carriers (On Su-33 particularly, one of pre take-off checks is flaps) And i dont know if its the same for passenger aircrafts.
Historically, flap levers work in discrete steps with each step being a notch and each reflecting a predetermined configuration. The 747s have notches for 10 degrees of flaps and the next notch is 20s degree of flaps. There is no 15 degree notch and 15 degrees of flaps is not a standard configuration.
Was going to ask about this! :) Considering it’s the “upgraded” version of Rortos’s previous game, AirlineCommander (which was really not realistic), it’s not too bad. Gr8 vid as always!
If you press vs in the auto pilot you can make it target a higher altitude but you lose the flight plan for altitude. Also you can set the altitude in the flight plan :)
I'll stick with Prepar3D and PMDG's Boeing's (and my little C208B for VFR fun). I might give X-Plane a go when I replace a few drives, but I'm not in any hurry. Loved MSFS (original through FSX), but not the 2020 version. My father worked on 727's for Northeast Airlines until after the Delta buyout, and then switched to the 737's for the new boss until he retired. Best I can do is sinking due to medical disqualifications (didn't keep me out of the US Army or later hauling fairly twitchy cargo on freeways for many years, to figure). It's an expensive hobby, but keeps me sane and my brain working hard now that I'm medically retired.
"I don’t know how realistic it would be to have a game with all those features" (of the MCP)...Kelsey, have you ever seen the PMDG add-ons for Prepar3D (and soon to be coming to MSFS)? They model the full Boeing systems, including the MCP, FMC, etc.

Not bad for a first time landing. But it was kinda funny listening to a real 747 pilot, winging it...pardon the pun, but give him like one hour I'am sure he would have everything down, but it was still fun to see him struggling a little. 😁
I just want to tell you good luck...we're all counting on you.
2:50 "this is probably more accurate of what it look likes of me going down the runway" I lost it!! HAHAHA
You went into pilot mode when explaining all the stuff "The... uh...". Also I imagined you shaking your head like in your viral debriefs with the landing.
Microsoft Flight Sim X and 2020 both utilize using the nav/autopilot control module. And it does actually work.
XPlane, Aerofly FS2020, and Microsoft FS2021 are the most realistic flight to check out which feel the realism of interacting with botten as real life as a real Pilot than Real Flight simulator...?
I like your style.
Thrust reversers are just dragging the thrust lever backwards that it says thr rev
You can actually change the altitude in the auto pilot. Just hold it and scroll up for increasing and down for vice versa
Have I missed Kelsey flying a F35? A10?.. That would interesting to watch LOL...Cheers Blessings!
Hey Kelsey , RFS checklist is in aircraft system
Kelsey I'm still your biggest Fan. Much Love man
Sincerely Grant

Well, I'm not a pilot but since I have to fly around in the things I like to have a general idea as to how they work. Very informative, thanks. And yes I flew a 747 partway through the Grand Canyon on an older Microsoft simulator.
If you tap-hold the green writings on the bottom, then you may change it (e.g. altitude to destination... Etc).
You can also have various camera angles/positions, if you tap-hold the camera symbol. (Lower left corner). 🙂
Hah! Balboa and Newport(Gillian island opening filmed to your right). Love my beach
747 pilot flies an SR-71 would be awesome :D
YESSS FINALLY THIS VIDDD IT WAS A PLEASANT SURPRISEEEEE
Perfect weather on the beach for watching this 😅
SNA is a pretty short runway, do you think you could land a real 747 there?
Don't discount flight simulators. I played the Microsoft FS back in the 80s then got taken up in a single engine Cessna by a friend. He let me fly the plane after takeoff for most of the hour long trip and complained that I was too focuses on the instruments and not using the windows enough. That's because the graphics on the original FS were crappy and I learned to used the artificial horizon, altimeter, air speed, compass, etc... I didn't land it of course, I had a hard time doing that on the simulator so wanted nothing to do with it in the real world.
Would be cool to have a kid teach you how to fly on the game.
i love that game!, i played for so long
thanks for doing this one Kelsey!
Oh cool! You literally (virtually) flew over the house where I used to live on Balboa Island!
Did you wave?
Big hello from England uk..your channel is still #1 Kelsey
thanks truth, hope you are well out there!
When are you going to do Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020?
I love my flight sim. Just learned how to use the autopilot. Great fun. Wish I could have been a pilot though. Great video. Thanks.
7:05 - about "flaps 15?"
I only know that on fighter jets, flaps help better control on lower speed and do help on take-off. For example on non-catapult aircraft carriers (On Su-33 particularly, one of pre take-off checks is flaps)
And i dont know if its the same for passenger aircrafts.
I love it when you upload! And nice casual outfit.
Was going to ask about this! :) Considering it’s the “upgraded” version of Rortos’s previous game, AirlineCommander (which was really not realistic), it’s not too bad. Gr8 vid as always!
I knew it looked so familiar. I play airline commander all the time, and the cockpit controls are identical.
Part of your problem getting into SNA is that the approach to 02L is a LOC BC...
I am addicted to watching your videos!Keep it up 😁
Wow I love this
If you press vs in the auto pilot you can make it target a higher altitude but you lose the flight plan for altitude.
Hi pilot kelsey im a big fun of u and i always play what u play
You can use joystick it's more easier and you can change the graphics to. Ultra
yesss was waiting for you to do this lol
No way, I love this game and play it everyday. I can already tell it's gonna be a great video, just like the others. Making Sunday great again
"I don’t know how realistic it would be to have a game with all those features" (of the MCP)...Kelsey, have you ever seen the PMDG add-ons for Prepar3D (and soon to be coming to MSFS)? They model the full Boeing systems, including the MCP, FMC, etc.
Nice video!
I'd never tell anyone, least of all a pilot, that I'm a pilot. Simmer, yes.
The most I tell people is that "technically I'm a pilot". Even then, that gets me into trouble as they make erroneous assumptions and call me a video game loser. Sigh. So I don't blame you for not even mentioning the word "pilot".
Flight Sim 2020 and Xplane 11 are Awesome in VR. Would love to see you give one of them a try. Thanks again for another great video.
