Challenges Facing Modern Day To'Hajiilee

- If you can't drink the water, who do you call for help? For the community of To'Hajiilee whose inhabitants were finally recognized as a band of Navajos in the 1960s, the answer is murky. Prior to officially joining the Navajo Nation, they would have communicated their needs directly to the local city and county governments as well as the Federal government. Today, however, everything goes through the Navajo Nation, an entity that seems to have prioritized the needs of the people of To'Hajiilee based on their proximity to the rest of the Navajo Nation. So how do they fix their problems? Join me as I speak about this and other challenges faced today with Marty Monte, a resident whose family has lived there for generations.

Thank you! The Navajo Nation government needs to stand up, and improve infrastructure + listen to the needs of the people.
Yes.
Ahe' hee, that's why we do it. New episode and Dine' story this Sunday
@@Spagoshi Ahe’ hèe! Looking forward to the new episode!
The Truth! Thank you brother from ToHajiilee. When we begin to solve the problems in front of us is when change will happen. He made a good point when he mentioned the elders and how they started homelands of ToHajiilee.
Ahe' hee for your words & we couldn't agree more with Marty as well. 🤙🏾
Did not know there was a band of Navajos out there. Nice series & I learned a lot. Thank you.
Glad to bring awareness to To'hajiilee. We'll be shedding light on other communities who don't get that much attention. Ahe' hee
Thank you.
Thank you for sharing, 👍🏼
Aoh' anytime
When he said 3 levels of loopholes, I was thinking 3 levels of bureaucratic runaround. Like if you have 3 bosses, you just have chaos. Anyway, thanks for giving some insight into this area. This was a good series!
Exactly! We really appreciate you watching and thanks for sharing your thoughts on this.
These younger generations are getting education but going to college but one thing is they just come back to Reservation they don't any experience out in the real world how to relate to other nationally like for me being a tradesmen traveling to other states and working with other nationally I have learned from them or teaching me or I'm teaching them about work or our culture and our tradition sometimes I sell turquoise necklace to them thanks for the video see you next video later
Ahe' hee for the words we also live by. What trade are you in? I've been in construction, architecture and film, I'm sure we can learn from each other as well.
@@Spagoshi I'm a structural journeyman ironworker and a journeyman welder
@@nealnez7729 thanks for sharing and that is a trade that'll always be needed. Iron workers are hard to come by these days. I can't keep mine on site due to the UNMH project in Albuquerque.
@@Spagoshi thanks I we need to bring other nationally teachers back on Navajo Reservation cause theirs lots of schools they don't have teachers young students need to know about real world off the Navajo Reservation how it is learn to cope with other nationally to learn from them if you're cope up on the Navajo Reservation your not going to learn nothing I think I didn't go to school here on Navajo Reservation high school I went to school in Idaho
@@nealnez7729 The trades are coming back now as our landscape economically is shifting. The very basics are vitally important and when we go into our pueblos and community centers we can make the changes needed. Shelter, food, water, medicine being the basics and add transport if applicable.Witjin the pueblos many do not drive and some ride horseback. All methods of living will need tradesmen. We are all going back to our home villages.
Think about changing
He's rite the new generation need to learn how to start the f fire 🔥. To change .
Aoh' agreed
different bans of Navajo with different stories about younger people don't understand about, even the language r a little different to even the song as well
Agreed on all points. We're working on locating contacts in the eastern agency and slowly working our way west and making sure all communities have their voices heard. PM us on our social media or website. Greatly appreciate, ahe' hee
