Hi Joe I feel your pain. I have suffered with spondylitis of the lower spine for many years. I had a similar mri scan and the option of an operation with the inherent risks. I decided against the operation for the same reasons as yourself that was 10 years ago. I’m still riding motorcycles are my life like yours and I’ll go on doing it until I’m unable too. My latest bike and most probably my last is a cbf600n the naked version. I’ve gone full circle started with my 1st big bike 45 years ago a Honda cb550 four. I suffered a major heart attack 2 years ago, and have chronic heart disease. But I’m not letting the back pain or the extreme fatigue stop me from throwing a leg over my motorcycles. They are like a little piece of heaven. The total focus they require when riding always makes me feel normal as the distraction means I don’t feel quite so much pain. So please keep on riding as much as you can they are a great way to alleviate your pain. Best wishes Andy.
Like your content Mister. Look forward to more. Not my business I know, but looking at matters in the round I'm sure that your love of bikes and dislike of pain might suggest a clear course of action. Get the swimming card!
Hi Joe, sorry to hear about your back, I know that you hate swimming but in my experience exercise is up there with the most important things people need to do these days, people think issues can be cured with just a pill here and there but that's just a plaster, and plasters don't have a lasting effect they are temporary. For example when was the last time you heard a Doctor say lose weight to someone obese for their blood pressure? Its always a culture of pill popping as its the easy way out. For such a serious operation would it not be an idea to try and put aside 3-6 months of your life to try and get yourself into the best condition possible and after that 6 month period see how your pain and back are feeling then? Train at least 3 times a week at the gym, or swimming pool and actively try and get your fitness up? Look at what you are eating and say is this really going to help me? Our bodies are like motorcycles in some ways, say you have an old bike, its barely been run, sitting in a shed for the last 10 years (equivalent to not training for 10 years) seals go bad, rusted everything locks up all tight and it wont run at all or if it does it runs like a bag of nails. I think if you see yourself as a restoration project that is going to take 3-6 months to try and get running then at that point you will be in a much better place to evaluate if you need this surgery or not or if good fitness and health is actually what you needed after all. Stay positive Joe and stay motivated.
Not good when you are in pain, and you can clearly see it in your face (unless that was wind) IM joking. I have suffered most of my working life with back problems I was diagnosed with stuff I cant even spell as well as spinal stenosis. But do what you know and what you love until you cant do no more that is all you can ask of your self knowing you have done your hardest..Cherish those bikes forever all the best 👊👍
