I've watched The Snowman every year since I was a kid, I'm now 26 and I'll still watch it happily. It's British culture to turn on Channel 4 every Christmas and watch it.
I'm on a slow, nostalgic musical journey through the 80s via UA-cam and have reached the closing few weeks of 1985,so I'm playing this. Only thing is by sheer chance it's 25th June - the exact opposite time of the year to Christmas Day!
The thing is that it's a common misconception that Aled Jones performed Walking in the Air for the Snowman, but it was a different boy. Aled just became synonymous with the song.
But the Snowman doesn't feature Aled Jones singing this song. The voice you hear in the Snowman' is that of Peter Auty - which is the superior version as far as I'm concerned.
I'm Norwegian, but half English, and once my father showed me this and told me it was a christmas tradition in England I kept rewatching it every year, and it's really become a part of my tradition. While it's not on in Norway I take the liberty to go onto UA-cam and cast it to the tv for my Norwegian family to join in with as well. Love this song!

This song I remember mid 80’s when I was a young kid, just brings back so many happy memories from a wonderful time, life changes fast but it’s great to come back to those moments listening to this song !
It reminds you of a time gone. A moment in history when our culture peaked a moment that will be lost in time like tears in rain. Our cultures and traditions will eventually fade away, humanity itself will eventually fade away into nothingness. This song will float around in the vast emptyness of space until even that dissapates into noise and then nothingness. We are all here in this moment, we are blessed and we can be forever, we just have to want it.
Being Greek never had seen this short movie till 2 days ago that national network of ερτ played this while I was in my couch, having my son on the carpet in front of the fire place playing. Got my attention instantly from the begining, wow what a piece of art. The song is mesmerizing and even If I never watch national TV Channel I am amazed of how this got my attention so naturally.
