- Cable tool well drilling in ACTION! Newbies drilling a well for the first time with a cable tool
Well we finally got the well rig going. After fixing the brakes and several other small issues with the winches we finally have things operational and are drilling our first well. Stay tuned
Brings back memories from over 40 years ago regarding drilling oil wells in both Oklahoma and West Virginia with cable tool rigs. Some were existing wells which had been plugged and abandoned long ago and others were new wells. Great for reentering abandoned wells to drill out tree trunks and other junk which had been dumped into the old wellbores. The oldest well had been drilled in 1906. One of my favorite experiences was when the oil driller showed me now to break up coke bottles and drop those in the well to help drill up lost rubber seals.
They were still using cable tool rigs 40 years ago? I thought they left that technology behind 80+ years ago for oil. Now we drill thirty thousand foot wells in under two weeks.
As an auger driller this is wild i couldnt imagine doing this
brings back memories for me spent plenty of time on one similar to this thank you for sharing good luck with the rig!!!
That great music gets one through the tough spots.
Awesome looking forward to seeing the next one
Amazing.. I can imagine a world in the distant future where spinning drill bits drill into the earth efficiently and quickly !
That's some ancient tech alright. Looks fun, but I think I'll stay w mud rotary technique . Excellent demo guys!
If your in no big hurry cable is fine but there's no way a well driller could make it these days with an old rig like this one.
I have run 2 in same field about 80 feet apart, 2 lots,MD.
How deep will this type of rig drill/bore? Will it work the granite rock?@@veggitarianredneck
JD is a guy that has the experience and knowledge usually they are not willing to share so when he offers it up all ears on deck don't recognize the topography other than surely looks like my eastern mt
Thanks God 🌍🌱🙏😍❤🥳😍
Man, I couldn’t imagine drilling a well with a cable tool rig. Technology has spoiled us for sure.
It's seriously not bad
Just retired pa MD 30 years eight years ago
wow very good job, whats the weight for that drilling bit? thanks
Thank you
It's heavy, I would say every bit of a thousand pounds.
Take apart, fix. Just nuts and bolts. Put all your cable on left side, you will ruin cable if you don't. Keep only one row on right side of bull real. That is dart valve bailor. 56 beats a minute. Hold that cable keeping in center
Ide give anything to have a veteran like yourself show us the ropes. Your advise is well recieved.
@@veggitarianredneck be glad to help anytime, retired and bored.
@@gqp3215 where you live at lol

Put water in that hole, 10 gal.
You don’t need clamps for a bailer hitch
If you could tighten the spudding clutch up a bit, you'd run a lot smoother.
We did, and it does lol.
@@veggitarianredneck good job. I've been running cable tool rigs since I was a kid. I'm 45 now. That's a neat little rig you have there.
@@wvwaterwelldriller what's the best way to get the aquifer sand out of the hole? The bailer wont quite get it
@@veggitarianredneck if you're drilling sand you will probably have to keep driving casing until you get to either bed rock or a water bearing formation. If you're just talking about removing the cuttings a heavier bailer will definitely help to get to the bottom of the hole and try to keep your mud as thin as possible. I usually use 12 to 15 gallons of water per 5 ft run then bail the hole clean and repeat the process every 5 ft. Where are you located and what type of formations will you be drilling in.
@@veggitarianredneck get a dart valve bailor. Md. Master 35 years 6 cable rigs
Don't quit your day job.
Lol 👌
it doesn't look like your tools are turning that is a must if you want to drill a hole with a cable tool.
Wrong.
You clearly don't know A
THING about Cable tool.
Rotary Drilling the drill bit turn.
hey would love to experience this drilling method
It's different to be sure
You need a better bailer with better dart valve, neat of rig of the past
i wonder if you guys are still alive ?
You don’t need clamps for a bailer hitch
