GRAMMY, CMA and ACM award winner Ashley McBryde cut her teeth playing country songs in biker bars - and it shows. The Grand Ole Opry member’s 2018 major label debut Girl Going Nowhere (Warner Music Nashville) charmed The New York Times, NPR, Rolling Stone, Paste, The Washington Post and more, all en route to landing a GRAMMY nomination for Best Country Album. McBryde closed out 2019 with ACM New Female Artist, CMT Breakout Artist, a New Artist of the Year win at the 53rd Annual CMA Awards and two nominations for the 2020 GRAMMYs for Best Country Song and Best Country Solo Performance for “Girl Goin’ Nowhere.” Her follow-up Never Will was tagged by Rolling Stone as one of the most anticipated of the year alongside NPR, who also ranked her Top 10 RIAA Platinum-Certified single “One Night Standards” as one of the best songs of 2019. The album earned McBryde a 2021 GRAMMY nomination for Best Country Album, making Never Will the only album nominated for Country Album of the Year by the ACMs, CMAs and the Recording Academy in the same award season. Her GRAMMY-winning duet with Carly Pearce, “Never Wanted To Be That Girl,” went all the way to No. 1 and earned McBryde and Pearce the ACM and CMA award for Musical Event of the Year. McBryde was also honored with the 2022 CMA International Artist Achievement Award for the most significant creative growth, development and promotion of the country music industry outside of the United States. Her collaborative project Ashley McBryde Presents: Lindeville featuring Brothers Osborne, Brandy Clark, Pillbox Patti, Caylee Hammack, Aaron Raitiere and Benjy Davis earned McBryde her third consecutive GRAMMY nomination for Best Country Album, making her a six-time GRAMMY nominee. The project earned McBryde her second consecutive nomination for CMA Album of the Year, along with Music Video of the Year for “Light On In The Kitchen” from her latest critically acclaimed album, The Devil I Know.

I think a lot of us learned to silently pray in a house where the devil played. I believe the devil tries to break us early. I hope more and more of us grow and become stronger despite it and we give it a name so other children recognize what it is.
This song is a masterpiece. I wish that I wouldn't say Im fine when I know I'm not. I watched my mom do the same thing growing up, and I swore I'd break the pattern. Well... here I am keeping it alive. It just is too easy now.

Does anyone really want to act like they care about our sad stories? It’s best sometimes to not let other know our business specifically in small towns sad but true. Small towns love to use it a fuel for the fire instead of straightening a woman crown when she’s going through heavy things they don’t care how hard it hurts your children either. That’s sad I’m my opinion people have lost compassion for others.
@staceyherrington2340 actually IMHO, you are wrong. Some of us do still care and will listen, and give advice or support. I'd much rather straighten a woman's crown, than tear her down. So yeah, we do care.
My mom stated in a very abusive marriage for years, pretended all was okay. Finally she had enough courage to leave with 3 small kids in toll. The first time I heard this song I cried because it sounded like my moms story.

Ever since Girl Goin’ Nowhere, I’ve been a fan. This lady, this artist is the best singer/songwriter/performer in country music since Reba McEntire. Not disrespecting the other talents like Ella Langley (who I’m also a big fan of) or the rest, but, Ashley’s songs are just fantastic, one after another. Thank you for sharing your talent with us!

My name is Vicki and my mom physically and verbally and emotionally abused me for over fifty years I didn’t tell my husband or my adult sons so much shame and humiliation I too learned how to lie finally in my sixties I shared with my husband and sons what I had gone through I still suffer with severe anxiety my husband and I have two beautiful grandchildren I would kill if someone abused them I did have a very happy childhood because I was raised by my loving and kind grandparents I became a mother would raised her boys with love and affection my mother never once hugged me kissed me or said I love you my sons are adults and I hug and kiss them and tell them I love them everyday you can rise up and tell your story or it will eat you alive thank you Ashley for this beautiful song
This was how I grew up too. My parents separated when I was 7 and divorced when I was 12. I was very careful in my relationships but picked the wrong ones from broken homes, always finding the ones who were broken and needed fixing in their lives too. I was afraid to speak up as I would never want a fight. I watched others have what I wanted and always wondered how they made things work. Thank you for this true story....
This breaks my heart. My mama went through this for so long and after 11 years she left but the "not speaking her mind" ultimately led to her raising my sisters kiddo while she did drugs and it ended up killing my mama from stress and then after my sister from drugs because she didnt know how to cope.

Absolutely beautiful song and such a beautiful voice and execution. A shame so many of us have lived what you sing and were taught to carry those lies to other parts of their lives. Parts where you are so depressed and in so much emotional pain that you cry yourself to sleep and then cry when you wake up realizing you have to face another day, but when anyone asks you just smile and say you are fine. A little over a year ago I found out I was seriously ill with no cure. It's been tough, but also so freeing. Hardly anyone speaks to me anymore because I learned how to be honest and they couldn't deal with the truth. I'm sure there's a lesson in there. Fantastic job Ashley! As long as I draw breath i will be a fan!!❤

I've never heard a song that has so very accurately described my entire life.

My dad was an alcoholic. I believe today my mom drove him to that. Cause I also had a toxic mother who just needs to be better than everybody else. I have to deal with her now.l as she has gotten older. She is the cause of most of my anxiety. But my parents abandoned me from 7 yr to about 15. And when I did move back I was kicked out at 17. I learned to lie about ever damn thing. But, I wish I learned how to live. Never got that, taught myself everything and most times I was wrong about it.
