The ending simply is made that way to blend into the next track, Hyper Music. In this album, most songs transition directly to the next carrying with it the sounds of the previous song.
I love the messy ending, it’s part of what makes this song so epic. For me it’s the closest any of Muse’s studio versions sounding live which is partly what makes Origin Of Symmetry so good
that ending make sense if you listen as an album I also think that such endings in songs are the style of the genre of that time, it was written in the 2000s
I know the requestor asked for this version (20th Anniversary) but the original master is just so nostalgic. This version is clean and clear, but there's something about the muddiness of the original. It's like when you sing the wrong lyrics of a song for so long that when you find out the real lyrics you go "but my lyrics are better". Same thing with the dirty, muddy mix. I guess it makes me hear and focus on smoothing sounds that I like that when this version has its own clean and clear sounds my brain goes "that's wrong...this song should not have those sounds" About the ending, it does linger and explodes at the end so as a solo song it's weird...but on the album it totally fits.
In the original mix most songs blend into each other, here the cacophonous ending would lead to Hyper Music. Since they decided to drop the transitions for the new mix, they should have got rid of those effects in all songs, just like they did with Citizen Erased. That one had a perfectly clean ending in the 2022 mix, while in the original it ends in a high pitch phasing effect.
Oh and the ending... may not be to everyone's taste, but the truth is.. It's Matt playing with his zipper into a microphone with fx. I mean the funny factor is there so it's forgivable imo :P
Hi David, nice to see you return to Muse. It would be nice if you react to "The Small Print" (Live in Earls Court 2004). Nice react to (Space Dementia) I like this song cause the outro sounds like the end of the world and Matt just throwing his guitar in my face hahaha. 10/10 piano, bass and drums
Hi David again ahsha, I just wanted to tell you, if you choose this song in your next react to Muse there is a version whit AI (Video Better). Check it out. Hope you see this. Thank you for your reactions. Have a nice day.
Good review! So many good songs on this album. I feel the end adds to the album, when you listen to it track-by-track. Obviously just listening to the one will detract from what you're hearing. Has Darkshines been reviewed yet? My favourite off of Origin of Symmetry.
love the reaction mate! if it gives some context, this album has a real rolling thing between songs. That last 30 seconds where its going a bit nuts is fading into the beginning of the next song hyper music, which starts of sounding incredibly all over the place and scratchy. If you don't like it, definitely hurts the song on an outro, but I think works in the context of an album listen through.
I also like the slow version Hyper khondriac music an amazing track, amazing music, the 2 versions are incredible despite not the same, this the genius of Matt
OMG I still havent finished whatching but that edit already cracked me up! Great job 😂 Great review as always! Edit: Aaand about the ending it was thought to fit the album theme, this song live ends differently of course.
I thought you'd like the bass in this one. Happy you did! As for the ending, it's like a big crash to transition into the next track on the album. I love it in the album, and when Matt goes from piano to guitar for that part live, it's one of the best moments live. Although they very rarely play this live anymore :( It's funny you say the ending felt like all 4 tires letting the air come out... that's probably exactly how it's supposed to make you feel :)
I've been waiting for this one for so long... I had no clue whether you would like it (still don't, I'm 3 minutes in), but taking in to account your usual quality of observation, I knew you would have interesting things to say about it. What I love about this song personally is the way it HEAVILY borrows elements from rachmaninoff's second piano concerto.
The anniversary version emphasizes the strings coming in. As for the ending, as people say its what links the songs together but you either like or you don't. An absolute beast live. The original album wasn't released in the U.S originally as the record label wanted less falsetto after Showbiz, so Muse doubled down on the falsetto. Keep to your principles, folks.
Great review! This 20th year anniversary mix definitely sounds different than the original(came in 2001). I think what's happening in background(anything other than bass, vocal, piano and drums) is more on your face and moving around from left to right all the time. I agree that the end would have been way better, would have made this song around nines. The end big kick in actually where Matt switches to guitar from piano on live and actually sounds better. My favorite version is at Reading 2011 where they played the whole album from the beginning to end!
I'm not going to lie, on my first listens I didn't like that ending either, I even hoped that with the remastering of the album they would add something more structured. But that's just my problem with the studio version; it will always be one of my favorite songs, along with Bliss and Citizen Erased, because it's a pleasure when they play it and they can end in amazing ways, sometimes with Matt's creativity on the piano or switching to the guitar just to end with his classic smashing of guitar
The reason it ends in distortion is because the next song, Hyper Music, starts off with a lot of feed back and pick scraping, so it leads into it with ease.
Loved your reaction but I think you let the ending affect you too much. You have to consider this song was released in 2001 and this was their 2nd album! Also when listening to a studio version I think you also need to consider how the ending of one song could have a reason to transition to the next song on the album. I personally like the ending but I get what you're saying. Anyway - maybe since the studio version ending held you back from giving a 9 maybe this song deserves a live version reaction to see if it gets you there?👀
the way this album is mixed is one song goes right into the next with no pause, thats why have the "feedback" at the end. a lot the songs on this album do that
Like the others said, the end makes sense when the next song in the album kicks in, but yeah... lol I wish it was the original and not the remixx, i love when Matt says "meaningless" and it goes from one ear to the other, sounds quite spacey. But anyways, i loved to see you groove with the cat xD So, excluding the ending, could this be your new favorite Muse song? 🤔 (also, i don't understand how could someone say you were not going to like this lol)
I disagree. The ending is my favorite part of the song. It's like one big mental/dementia explosion that ends with the person's brain being scattered throughout space, slowly fading away. Or at least that's my interpretation. Also, I'm so used to Muse's random guitar noises. 😅
Tiny Tina from the video game Borderlands 2. To be more specific, from the mission where you're going to blow up the train tracks before fighting Wilhelm.
First of all: Great reaction, glad you liked the song so much! But it's a shame the ending bothers you so much (even if I can kinda understand it), because you probably would've given it a 9 if you watched a live performance instead

I like the ending because it sounds like a spaceship that is losing power and about to crash. Fits perfectly with the themes of the song.
Exactly, the whole vibe of the album is spacey.
Yes, the next song on the album starts with the sound at the end of this song, it matches a lot.
that ending make sense if you listen as an album
I also think that such endings in songs are the style of the genre of that time, it was written in the 2000s
Origin of symmetry is a masterpiece 👍👌
I quite like the ending of the song, because it fits well with the chaotic and really heavy and distorted feel of the entire song

This song live at hullabaloo in 2001 is so amazing.
It's impressive how you can still do your intro / explanations with such enthusiasm, as if you're saying it for the first time. Nice review!
I laughed so hard watching you complain about the ending . I feel you david, but I like the chaos, the noise of it. great video !
One of my favourite songs of theirs. An incredible album

Yes the small print will blow your mind as never, I play this song every day I play MUSE 2 hours every day
also Matt as a FANTASTIC virtuoso on piano
Good review!

My favourite off of Origin of Symmetry.
Also really liked seeing you enjoy the song with the bopping head cat 😂
when no one sounded like muse. In their prime, so much chaos in the order
in the live version the song ends with a guitar

this editor deserves a gold star
@@ROCKSTARR338 I actually do all of the editing for my videos.
@THEDavidHeretic the cat had me dying. You are amazing. Also, I am a bassist, so I always appreciate the bass knowledge.

I am very surprised. I only expected a range of 7 at most! :))
Old muse is so goood of goodd, plis old muse back for us.
If you the did live version of Pinkpop 2004 you would be fan of the ending
Like the others said, the end makes sense when the next song in the album kicks in, but yeah... lol

Reminds me of that Ren & Stimpy episode 😅
"Allright, boy! Let's do this!" What's that sound clip from? It's so familiar. It's driving me nuts.
Tiny Tina from the video game Borderlands 2. To be more specific, from the mission where you're going to blow up the train tracks before fighting Wilhelm.
@@THEDavidHeretic Dude, you're the man! Thank you. Great content, btw.
Good song
8:36 haha
What's the name of the cat ?
Well the meme is called Grooving Cat, so that's what I've been calling it.
Great ending. But it's your opinion. "Garbage" you said??
Naaaa. FU, I was going to bibbity, bibbity bop, first! :O

Not the best version. IMO the remaster kinda ruins some key background sounds of the original
