@wwhn yes and if I remember correctly from a video from the DVD about it. Nina had to learn lines for both characters and basically have a conversation with herself. They used a body double to mimic her movements and she filmed each scene twice (once as Elena and once as Katherine) and then they did a split screen to turn them into one scene
katherine is one of the best villains in the series i think that’s why we like her 😭😭😭

you being gagged by stefan threatening john is so real. you’re right, these moments SEEM out of character, but one thing about stefan? if kindness don’t work and you continue to threaten the happiness or wellbeing of the ppl he loves he WILL handle you. we saw it already with vicki. he’s a good guy and wanted to help her but he didn’t hesitate to kill her when she almost killed elena. he does NOT PLAY BOUT HIS GIRL!! if reason won’t get you, then HE WILL!!
this is why i hate ppl who call stefan boring… like he’s actually very complex and can be very scary if you continue to make yourself a problem. love him sm.

it always surprises me when people think or say Katherine was only playing a game here saying "it was always Stefan". this is one of the few sincere moments we get from her in the whole series imo and IMO you can tell she feels at least a little (emphasis on little) bad about it. that being said, I've watched the show multiple times so I have a bit more context to the whole story lol. loving these reactions btw! what's your go-to spot to eat in DC? looking for suggestions :)

@@courtydances she does say that quite a bit lol. certain flashbacks give me the impression she definitely cared about them both but Stefan was the one she truly “loved” if that makes sense? won’t say which ones cause spoilers but the two in the Memory Lane episode for example

Damon in the last 10 minutes in this episode is the absolute worst type of Damon. He literally assaulted Elena (which honestly shouldn't come as a surprise because he spent the first few episodes of S1 assaulting Caroline) after the other woman he was obsessed with rejected him and said "It's always gonna be Stefan", and when Elena not only rejected him as well but said the EXACT same thing, he murdered her brother to punish her (the woman he claims to love). And to make matters worse, he killed him in front of her and she had to watch him die right in front of her eyes, like how she watched her parents die. Damon was just lucky Jeremy had the ring but he didn't even care enough to check, he just left. Also, let's say he did actually know he had the ring. It was still traumatic for Elena to watch her brother die!
S2, especially with Katherine on the scene, really takes the show to another level. You'll also see even more how great of an actress Nina Dobrev is by playing such vastly different characters. Aside from the hair (Katherine usually has curly hair while Elena has straight hair) there are certain mannerisms that Katherine has that Elena doesn't have, and vice-versa, but it's very subtle. Katherine is evil and manipulative but also funny and somehow even sexier than Elena.
Taylor Kinney who plays Mason is one of the leads in the TV show Chicago Fire. Steven R. McQueen (Jeremy) was on that show too for a bit. Taylor dated/was engaged to Lady Gaga from 2011-2016 (they met during filming of her music video to her song You and I).
In 1x10, there was some great foreshadowing about Tyler when they showed a full moon after he got into a fight with Jeremy. Also, Alaric called Mayor Lockwood an Alpha Male.
And when Bonnie and Damon are talking at the party, the song playing in the background is How to Save a Life by The Fray. Candice Accola (Caroline) was married to the band's lead singer, Joe King, though they didn't meet for another 2 years after this was aired.

@@13a98amarie ohhhhhhhhh fr? I was always confused about that line because tyler is supposed to be older than jeremy (vick always was weird about jeremy being younger but was fine with tyler). That makes more sense. I still don't really get the ages of the characters though I swear they just kind of go with whatever fits for each season. Either way Tyler playing a high school student is too funny to me.

Nina Dobrev switching between Elena and Katherine in this show is one of my favorite things to happen on TV. She did fantastic with the little nuances and beats between the two and it was always fun to watch. Katherine is definitely one of my favorite villains.

Why do people think Caroline changing into a vampire changes anything she did in the past? It doesn’t. She is really overrated as a character who does a bare minimum in the show :D

@@gitanastanciauskaite3893 eh i think you either like her development and the actress’s charisma or it just does nothing for you, it happens. i agree the show runners are constantly fumbling with some shit to give her after s2, but i think this season is very defining for her character being expanded on more. next season KIND OF, but then… well… THAT ship starts taking off and it becomes clear most of her plots will follow a pattern of being centered around her love interests or potential love interests so she becomes way under utilized. but i like candice accola so she’s still welcome imo.

Damon snapping Jeremy's neck is Damon attempting to force Jeremy to turn into a Vampire. which is hilarious given that Damon believes that he was also forced to turn. by who? Stefan. So after hearing both these women he is chasing after, unequivocally, choose Stefan, his IMMEDIATE psychological response and or inclination was to reenact what he believes to be Stefans worst moment. I think all he sees when he looks at Stefan, before a brother. before someone who was also abused by Giuseppe. Before anything else, I believe Damon ONLY sees, 1864 Stefan that he believes forced him to turn. And thats why it's easy to chase after his girl. thats why it's easy to kill Lexi, Stefan's Bestfriend, on his BIRTHDAY. Any virtue. Any selflessness. Any Genuineness. Any of Stefans ACTUAL Personality thats been amplified from when he was a human. Any Hero-ness that Damon sees Stefan display, Damon immediately writes off as martyrdom or as a self righteous, self absorbed, self centered, disingenuinous attempt to uphold, awfully, in Damon's eyes, a pointless facade to mask the 1864 Stefan that to Damon, forced him to turn.
Yeah, Katherine is a good villain but I’ve never really liked her much. She is, however, very necessary to the development of Season 2. And while Katherine and Damon both have over the top aspects in their personalities, I don’t think they are that much alike. Katherine is who Damon may have become had there not been the deep down brotherly love between Damon and Stefan. Family matters.
when you said you surprised you didn't get into this show till now and you surprised is so meeee. I just started watching and it's absolutely amazing. Imma admit part of the reason I didn't watch it is cuz it came out during the whole "vampire obsession era" and twilight was out and I hated seeing twilight so I thought this show would be bad too so didn't give it a chance :(
I hate Katherine and always will. Sure she has her "nice" moments but i still don't like her. However i get why there are people do like her cause she's kinda of a me, myself, and I person.

Damon assaulting Elena before killing her brother is one of the many reasons I hate him and will never be a Delena fan at all.

@@jalyntaylor7609 Oh, here we go again with the only argument of Damon/Delena fan the whataboutism? Saying ‘yeah, but so-and-so did this too’ doesn’t justify Damon’s actions at all. This kind of comparison is just a way to avoid acknowledging his faults by changing the subject. If someone did something wrong, that doesn’t mean we should excuse or downplay what someone else did. It’s clearly a way to dodge the discussion due to a lack of solid arguments to defend Damon.
I like Katherine as a villain but I don’t actually like, like her. She brings the drama and adds to the lore in an interesting way for me. I don’t think she can really make Damon do anything, like if your window of tolerance is so small that you have a bad day and it “makes you” sexually assault your brothers girlfriend and then kill her brother as punishment when she says she doesn’t love you, then maybe that’s just who you are? Rejection is not an excuse for bad male behaviour. It wasn’t all just spur of the moment, that happened with Katherine and he went to Elena’s so I’m sure he had time to ponder his actions and intentions on the way. I don’t fw him at all!! Grow up!! You aren’t entitled to women’s affections! But yeah, so glad you are enjoying!! And season 2 already getting off to a crazy start!! I can’t wait to get further into it !!!
