When I was living in Southwest France back in the 2000s there was a storm just like this but without the rain it was crazy. Hope everybody found shelter that we're out and about, those hail sized tennis balls can kill you. Stay safe everyone!

I am 69 years and I can remember the year before I left school I was playing rounders afternoon lessons and the heavens opened with giant hailstones. As I arrived home in our garden it was full of these very big hailstones all piled up by our greenhouse, it was quite exciting , biggest id ever seen or seen since. That would have been 1969 or 1970 in Leeds england.
here is a small tip. when you listen and pay heed to the weather channel in your local area, and a storm of this magnitude is approaching. see if you can put your vehicle in a garage. if not, get or cut out thick cardboard, and put a cover over your vehicle. thick cardboard will help save your windows front and back of the vehicles with a heavy cover over the car. Even a long runner rug tied down securely will help the hail from pounding and smashing your windows. Any thick rug long or short to cover your front and back of car. with another cover on top covering the same areas. I would put the windshield wipers under the cover too. This is a small tip I learned from a friend of mine who serve as a postman for many years.

Here in the US we got hit by a bad one Thursday night. It most likely got charged up from the early hits given how it increased in severity so rapidly.

Years ago I was in a hailstorm in the US with about 2 inch diameter hail. That seemed more than enough for me. 8 inch diameter hail must be very dangerous indeed.

This is what the central United States deals with nearly every Summer, especially areas like Colorado Springs CO because its the perfect place where cold from the west Rocky Mountains meets the warm air from the eastern flat lands, so nearly every evening during the Summer time are thunder and lighting storm's with hail. If you don't think ahead and prepare yourself and your property with some kind of hail prevention devices for a form of insurance, it will cost your wallet greatly in the future. This exact thing happed to me back in Spring and Summer 2018. In Spring 2018, while living in Colorado Springs CO, I went on a Spring time road trip up into Canada and then visited my hometown visiting my brothers in Washington State and while doing so a severe hailstorm hit southern Colorado Springs with golf-ball to softball size hail that killed two animals at the zoo. I heard about it on UA-cam news and felt so lucky because before taking this Canada road trip I had just traded-in my Hyundai Sonata for a brand new 2018 Hyundai Kona. So my vehicle wasn't even 3 months old and a massive hailstorm like that would have completely destroyed it, it would have been a total loss and I was a local Lyft Driver for the area while doing college. So after that event occurred, I started thinking about insurance coverage policies and hail prevention devices on the market. I thought about if my vehicle were to get damaged by hail I would have to pay a $500 deductible for repairs, unless its considered a total loss. So, why no go ahead and spend up to around $500 worth on a hail prevention device of some kind, so I did. I spent $350 on a Lanmodo Vehicle Deployable Umbrella System for my car and a few months later I ended up actually using it to protect my car against golf-ball to baseball size hail. At first it started with normal BB size hail, then it stopped, so I go out to deploy my vehicle umbrella system, and about 20 minutes later golf-ball to baseball size hail started dropping from the sky. Everyone else's vehicles where getting damaged in some form or fashion and other residents ran out there with twin mattresses and cardboard boxes to throw on top of their vehicle to lighten the impact damage, but my vehicle was completely unharmed because I thought ahead and invested in Emergency Preparedness products. After that hailstorm there were only 2-3 other Uber/Lyft still active drivers on the road, so I made all my invested money back super fast because I got fare, after fare, after fare. So, thinking ahead in preparedness massively paid off. FEMA and the American Red Cross say statistically for every one dollar spent in Emergency Preparedness products and planning you will end up saving yourself between $4-$16 in damages and recovery fees in the long run and this statistical analysis was from Summer 2015, so before COVID-19 and inflation occurred. So that estimate is more like for every one dollar spent in preparedness planning and products you'll actually save somewhere between $8-$32 in damages and recovery fees now. Emergency Preparedness Planning will always payoff in the long run.
