A hailstorm like this took place in Italy June 2019. My son's car (in Modena) was seriously damaged and the trees were almost stripped clean of leaves. And in agriculture, all the work done in spring, wiped out in a few minutes. 😪

Many of these hail episodes happening all over the world seem to be so local to certain areas, certain towns or provinces. I don't recall hail like this that has been going on for so long now, to ever have been an issue in the past. It's a new weather phenomenon, and so weird and destructive.

The only thing that decides the size of these storms is the weather pattern. It has pretty much nothing to do with geography save for the need to be within a belt of moist air which can happen anywhere the ice line ( the height water temp drops below zero but doesn't necessarily freeze-super cooled water ) allows water to stay in a liquid state long enough to reach the fast-moving convection regions of a storm where hail can grow. A warming climate raises this ice line height as well as the size of cumulus clouds. ergo larger hail.
